Someone contacted me about videotaping their kid's baptism, and the party afterwards. I foresee a very wild party, FYI.

She wants video, and not photography, so I told her I couldn't do it. The only videotaping I've done is on an existing setup in an academic setting.

Anyone have any recommendations? If you're interested, I'll give you the when and where, and her email address.

I use http://www.mpix.com for digital prints of decent quality. For really cheap, small prints I just send from flickr to target.

I've got a full sized tripod I'm looking to get rid of for 10 dolla bucks. I got a Manfrotto, so I don't need this.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/538299-REG/Sunpak_620_750BB_7500_Pro_Platinum_Tripod_with.html

only catch is that mine is only 90% functional. The tilt control will lock in, but to unlock it you will probably need some pliers. Right now it's set to be pretty firm, but still movable, which should be perfect for something lightweight (Rebels, D40s, etc.)

I printed a few at Target today and I won't print there again. Either they postprocess the pictures they print or the printers are set up funny, but my prints came out too warm and oversaturated.

I did notice that Costco has good prices, an 8x10 for $2. 4x6 for 16ยข each.

on our D40 we leave it on the default size which is way too huge to post in here... what do y'all use to make the picture smaller but retain the quality?

Great shots of the dog. How do you achieve the 'all white background' effect?

light background... dark dog... slightly over exposed

i like the personality in that picture by the way.

I GOT A NEW LENS!

70-200 sigma. its pretty damn big. if it is this big then the 70-200 nikon wouldn't have even fit in my bag.

Different question -- I could tell the one done with the dog wasn't on a white sheet, whereas I could tell JBaz was using...something for the product shots.

Jbaz was probably either using a white paper or cloth background...

hell if your flash hits hard enough sometimes you don't even need a white backgorund to get a white background lol

hell i've taken pictures with no background that ended up black... just made the flash not hit anything important and kept the room dark.

no photoshop btw

My fiancee bought me an early Christmas present -- an Ikelite underwater housing for my Canon A570IS P&S camera. dSLR housings are $$$texas (at least $1,000 bare minimum for the cheap ones) and this one was $265.

While I'd love to have a dSLR for underwater stuff I can't justify it right now. Plus, P&S cameras have some slight advantages for certain aspects of diving. For example -- with one camera I can do macro, wide-angle, and movies all in the same dive. The issue with dSLR's underwater is that you can't change lenses, so if you have a wide-angle lens and you drop down into yucky visibility, it's useless. The opposite is true for using macro lenses. And of course, there's no video function...

I got the A570IS specifically for underwater work. It takes nice video, has full manual control, and you can use the CHDK hack to shoot RAW (important for underwater). Also takes nice shots above water too.

Probably going to test it in the pool on Tuesday.

Thanks chocolatervh and CharlesHF Although I don't market what I do as studio photography (b/c, well, it isn't) I do look for the opportunity to create a similar effect using on-location shots. The clients seem to like it as it is unexpected.

For this shot: , Belle was actually laying partially on carpet, partially on the kitchen floor with a wall, refrigerator, and cabinets behind her. I combined the original RAW shot with one that I overexposed a few stops (using CS3's raw editor)...brought back the original exposure of the dog...removed the leftover background and foreground elements...then processed it for a high-key look

Also, the black and white photos with colored flowers/etc is possibly one of the lamest and most unoriginal things you can do.

That photo could use some levels adjustment as well.

Thanks for the advice!
