the way they've been playing lately and the way we have, yeah they deserve to be in more

I don't just mean last night's game, we went 1-3 in a 4 game stretch where we only had to win 2. in fact, we only won 2 out of 6 this month. that was a slump

they were doing very well after losing Brind'Amour, but lately just hadn't been getting the wins they needed. especially at the end of the season with a red hot Caps team chasing them.

on the plus side at least UNC is getting blown out by Kansas

Not gonna say much here; I posted some thoughts at HF, and don't really feel like reposting here. I was in pretty bad shape last night, but had a few revelations today and have moved past it. Perhaps, however, my mojo has run out as TWW Official Hurricanes Thread Creator. If someone else wants the job, maybe it's time. If asked to return, however, I will do as Bret Hedican and continue well past my prime.

Unrestricted Free Agents:
Forwards: Samsonov, Letowski, Aucoin, Bayda
Defense: Hedican, Wesley, Brookbank
Goalies: Graham, Leighton

I'm really hoping we can sign Aucoin and Bayda back for Walker, they were our best line in the 2nd half. We have to sign Leighton to back up Cam. He needs some competition. Gleason and Larose were solid as well so getting them back would be nice too.

I never got the impression that the team liked Leighton too much, just a feeling though. I know they were all disappointes that they caused grahame to get sent down in their minds. I think Leighton is great, and would like to see him back but i want a goalie the team will actually play for though.

i cannot believe no playoffs in what 4 in the past 5 years? yet and the only time we did we won the Cup? i'm not complaining about that, duh, but this is two years in a row we let the playoffs slip right through our fingers. this is a major letdown. what are we the Florida Marlins?

if we want to build a successful franchise we have to actually compete every freaking year in the post season. not just every 5 years.

i'm so sad about this, i mean come on Canes, these is the times.

Playoff hockey is what would make this franchise. I heard a comment that after the cup, the most important thing the canes could do would be make the playoffs the next season even if they lost. They have failed 2 seasons in a row now, and I think people around here will get fed up with it eventually.

im proud to have decided to come to nc state and ill always be a fan for the college and for the hurricanes.

The fans around here are not so dumb that they don't recognize what happened over the course of this season. Neither of the last 2 seasons have been anything remotely close to the epic disasters after the first Finals run. This final stretch of the season has been so intense and entertaining; it's what hockey is all about. 350 man games lost to injury. I think most people are just going to be excited to see these new guys, most of which have already endeared themselves to fans, starting the season with the team, and the return of the injured players.

This offseason is critically important.

as long as those guys will sign 2 way deals they'll be back I think. Back in Albany, that is. Anyone who decides they are above that and need a one way deal will walk. Conboy will re-sign for sure; he's a RFA, and should have no issue signing a two way deal. Aucoin and Bayda, mainly Aucoin, are the question marks, because there may be teams out there that see they way they stepped up here and put them maybe in a permanent 3rd line situation. Which would be a big mistake for any team to make, IMO.
