Herb left because the fans ran him out. despite the fact that he won games, took us to the ncaa tournament, got us to the sweet sixteen, we ran him out of town. i know that his record against UNC and duke sucked, but he still won games, and now he's winning games somewhere else. i wouldnt mind being #15 in the nation. its a lot better than not even making the damn NIT 1/18/2009 5:13:28 PM |

Yeah, so? His first five years were spent building the program back up to be mediocre. Then he started to make progress. So he really had just a few years to do something, and in those years he made the NCAAs every year, usually got to the second round, and got the the Sweet Sixteen once. Most programs would kill for that. And we were getting better, gradually. I wonder if most of you were State fans in the 90's. People who didn't want to run off Herb and still think he was a terrible what happened to him probably do remember that era in State basketball.1/18/2009 6:19:24 PM |

I appreciate what Herb did for the program and all but the majority of basketball games under Herb just weren't fun to watch, even when we were winning. Looking at the statistics and records is cool at all... but actually going to games and watching on tv (except for a handful of games like the huge comeback against Wake in my freshman year or when we beat #1 Duke) the games just weren't fun to watch
I also just want to clarify that even if I'm critical of Lowe, it doesn't mean I wish we had Herb back or I want Lowe to go right now... I just think it's fair to ask questions of some of his decision making, that's it1/18/2009 7:19:56 PM |

Ironically, the year we didn't deserve to get in was the year Herb did his best. It was all thanks to Hodge. First, hodge got punched in the nuts, which let us get a win against wake in the ACCT. Then, Hodge played his ass off in his last 2 games.
Then we pulled a typical sendek meltdown against wisconsin by practically giving away the fucking game.
Hodge made sendek, just like Rivers made Amato, just like great recruits make countless coaches look better than they actually are. Time has erased the boneheaded shit sendek did while he was here.
Wanting lowe gone may be ok given other preconditions, but wanting sendek back is just fucking stupid.

You guys do realize that if Herb were still here he wouldn't be producing the same record as he is at ASU right?
Recruiting here is much more difficult, there's more pressure, he would still be playing Princeton ball, which he changed after leaving us, blah blah blah
I wish him all the best at ASU and it's good to see his program succeed so well, but if you think he'd be having the same results with the program he had here I disagree
but in general I think,

^^ it's really nothing against herb personally, but i feel like we got a really bad name in the media (which you still see come up in any article even mentioning herb) after he left, and i feel totally justified in being unhappy w/ herb at the time that he left. then he shows up at asu doing shit like not running the princeton offense, landing james harden and sitting w/ the students at football games. so now we look like even bigger jackasses b/c he's doing well at asu, when in reality he's a different coach than we had.
i'd like to be vindicated as a fanbase b/c in reality we aren't any worse than any other that actually shows up to events, but we have this herb thing that gets brought up every other week by national media outlets.

Did Herb ever have us that high? We might have reached it once and quickly lost the next game, but we were rarely ranked with him....it seems like we were perenially just outside the top 25.
What Herb does at ASU doesn't change what he did here.
Hell, I hated him (As a coach) but I always said if he'd switch out of that stupid offense I'd shut my mouth for a few years. Unfortunately, he didn't trash the offense until after NC State. That and James Hardin apparently are a combo for success.1/19/2009 9:28:29 AM |

So far we have Chrissy Collins breaking recruiting rules for Wall and now we can add Self to that list.
We are going to really have to up our payroll if he is coming here. Do we still have some room under the cap or did we defer a lot of JJ Hickson's payments? 1/19/2009 5:22:31 PM |

Anyone who blames Sendek for the beating we took in the media over his departure obviously never attended games that he was coaching. He would ROUTINELY get booed when he was introduced. Hell if he had gone to a football game and sat with the students he probably would have been beaten/killed. I don't blame him at all for leaving. The next year he probably would have missed the tourney (Not much talent outside of freshmen and Sendek didn't really like to play freshmen because they hadn't learned his system) so he wouldn't have been the exciting hire when we fired him. It is our craptastic fans that gave us our bad name and these same craptastic fans are still out in force. Add the fact that UNC has a journalism school and you have the reason why state gets crucified in the media.

and i don't blame sendek for leaving, i blame outsiders for thinking he was such a fantastic coach. and i went to every game sendek's last year (my freshman year), i do not recall him being booed... but i guess it could've happened.1/19/2009 5:57:40 PM |
