I have been poking around a lot of blogs lately and this made me laugh and sort of reminded me of this thread:

Quote :
"No fruit. Fruit is bad. Fruit is sugar. Wait! How can fruit be bad? Fruit is ok...you should be having some fruit. You don't have enough green vegies. Only leafy vegies. Green smoothies, oh wait, those are too high calorie. Splenda is bad. Stevia is unproven. Diet Soda is horrible, coffee is bad, dairy is bad, wheat is bad, flour is bad, sugar is bad, gluten is bad. Too much protein, not enough protein. Protein powder is helpful and the body absorbs it FASTER. Protein powder is BAD because the body burns more calories when you eat real food. Drink more water. Too much water is bad. Don't drink water with meals or it ruins digestion. Protein bars are a good snack, protein bars are bad for you. Meals have to be precisely 40/40/20 or no, wait, 40/30/30 no wait 60/20/20. Every 3 hours you must eat. Deli meat has sodium. Don't eat red meat. Go fat free. No, you need fat. This fat is ok, this fat is not ok. Count calories. Don't count calories, count fat grams. Eat salads, don't eat salads. You can't ever drink. Cheat days are bad. You must have a cheat day to confuse your body. No one needs dairy. Dairy helps with weight loss. Avoid everything white. Go on the Zone. Atkins always works. Shakes only. Slim-Fast. Frozen meals are the curse of the devil. Avoid salt. Only egg whites. A few egg yolks are ok. Carrots have too much sugar. Only eat clean. More fiber, less fiber. Lo-carb, moderate carb, high carb.

Calories: don't count calories. Calories don't count, fat counts. Calories don't count, carbs count. Shoot for 2200 calories if you are training that hard!! No! You still have to keep calories LOW even if you are working out. Stagger calories. Stagger carbs. Cheat day vs. Cheat meal.

Do you see the madness here? There are all these opinions and ideas about what works best- and I am not saying that the people that told me this or that were WRONG. For THEM, a certain way works. WE HAVE TO FIND A WAY OF EATING AND "DIETING" AND TRAINING THAT IS SUSTAINABLE LONG TERM FOR US. ONLY FOR US. What works for ME might not work for you. What works for you might sound hideous to me. "

Worked out at Lifestyle for the first time.... the gym's legit twice the size of my old gym aha.

Except for almost being T-boned by a douche driving a Ford Mustang that tried to drift, but ended up skidding out on the wet pavement and driving over the island/divider, my first day at LFF was pretty good.

I'm comparing a picture I took today and the first pic I took, and it doesn't look like I made any progress...might have even regressed in some areas

I'll try taking the same angle and see what happens though

Since I'm coming home Tuesday, figure this is my "end point" for my challenge. [What follows is an analysis of my before and after. If you don't care, skip ]

Left is 6/19, Right is today (8/1)

I made calculations based on the pixels (using the selection tool in MSPaint; it gives the size of the box in the bottom right corner in X vs Y pixels), using my ear to ear as reference for scaling. Yes, I did make an excel spreadsheet . You can tell by the pixels that the right image was scaled a little bit, but it was to get my body the same size as the one on the left.

Quantitatively, biggest increase appeared to be my deltoids and shoulders. Trap height and deltoid thickness were around 25% increase in pixels. Nipple to deltoid saw an increase of 11%. Every other measurement I made ranged between 1 and 3%. I lost 1-2% of pixels around my waist (using where my shorts sit as the measurement point and the top of my love handles). Only significant area where I appeared to lose pixels was going from the top of my left armpit to the top of the deltoid, which was a 1% loss, but seeing my increase in deltoid size I'm not sure why.

Aside from numbers, I made significant strength gains and feel my shoulders are much bigger. I feel much 'thicker' overall. My core appeared to lose definition, and I also got a lot paler, so clearly I need to go do some ab work outside.

Of course I'll continue to work out, but this seems as good a spot as any to check the progress.

My weight stayed roughly the same around 185. I could never get enough food in, so that goal I missed.

I see bigger delts in pic 2, but bigger biceps in pic 1... not seeing any other differences tho.

But either way, you're still very tasty lookin. Can I use your abs to wash my clothes?

Oh yeah, I'm also interested in doing this...I know I've gained weight recently, so would anyone be interested in starting this challenge thing over? I feel like I've missed too much in this thread.

Leave it to TWW to measure their gains in motherfucking pixels instead of inches.

But seriously, grats on the improvements, sounds like you've been able to make some substantial changes in less than a month and a half. That's awesome.

Haha, thanks guys. I don't have any other way to measure at the moment, and all I had for analysis from before was the picture.

The challenge aspect of this whole thing is a personal one. Despite the thread title, you can start at any time.

You're just going to have to get over that.

The problem with trying to have an actual "competition" is that the goal here shouldn't be "haha, I was able to lose 5 pounds before that fatty" it should be "I'm making strides to improve my physical well-being and overall appearance".

Ultimately we're all competing with ourselves in some way: I'm competing with my ridiculous sweet tooth and never-ending stomach, Quinn is competing with his tiny stomach and lack of desire to eat, TKE-Teg and NyM410 seem to be competing with their love of beer, etc.

Anyone can change their diet and lose 10 pounds for a competition. If you want to get any benefit from this thread, you're going to have to challenge yourself.

^how long have you been training? The type of work you're doing is what I imagine/assume elite athletes do as the only way to still challenge their bodies.

I've been racing on the elite men's circuit for seven years now.

Originally, I was not going to post in this thread. But, after reading it thoroughly, I am rather motivated by many of your results. I'll probably just keep reading and post occasionally when I really need to get motivated--like today.
