The Barnacle wireless tethering app should work. The regular Wireless Tether for root users probably won't since it requires a custom kernel.

looks like Sapphire will be coming soon for the Droid X

Thanks, [user]calliphish[\user], for the recommendation!!!

Edit: meant to mention, it has one annoying flaw in that it is not very good at widget resizing

I've used Wireless Tether several times on my DX. It doesn't require a custom kernel on the DX because the DX kernel already supports tethering. I couldn't get Barnacle to work when I tried it, but I really like Wireless Tether, it has lots of options and is really easy to use.

Resizing in Launcher Pro is pretty new and it'll take a few iterations before it's perfect.

seconding this. one of the few things i have it set to do is to connect to wifi when it detects a signal nearby, and it works well at home, but it seems like a lot of the time wifi will be on even though my phone can't connect to the source, so i think it just drains my battery.

I need to figure out what's hoggin the batter on my DX. What's the best app out there to take a look at this?

also, what are some tips other DX users have found that dramatically increase battery life, because this 8 hour battery life shit is for the birds.

^^Depends on a lot of stuff really. The first 4-5 days I was getting similar battery life. Now I am getting great battery life. For example, My phone was off the charger yesterday at 8:30am and today at 4:12pm, 32 hours later I am at 60%.

Obviously it is going to be based on your usage though. I have social applications only syncing when I am on wifi (so I have to manually refresh them at work for example) and I have my email set to only check for new mail when Background Data is enabled. Along with that, I never have auto-sync on and in general I keep Background Data off - toggling it on every so often to receive new emails etc.

I was out reading yesterday and running errands so wasn't using it a ton besides some calls and texts and a few random browsing periods. Today I am at work so I have not used it much besides a few emails, texts, and intermittently playing WordFeud

Is there a to-do list app that puts items on your calendar for that day, and automatically carries them over from day to day until they are checked off?

the weird thing I'm seeing on my battery manager is that my display has used almost HALF of my now, 15% left battery (And I've been at work all day. I've sent maybe four text messages, and other than that the only thing the phone has been doing is saying "droid" periodically and blinking a green light at me).

The screen brightness is already pretty low, but I can't stand it being all the way down. The other almost half of my battery usage has been "standby," but that's reasonable if I was only at half battery now, I'd have a whole nother 6-8 hours ish before it dies on me.

I do not understand

do they actually have better apps for the the HDMI port? because im not too impressed with how it's worked so far ....

maybe it's a problem w/ my TV though

alright i figured out what may be a problem w/ my X so far

in order for the TV to recognize the signal, i have to have the HDMI cable plugged in either when the phone is off (or reboot after it's plugged in) and then the TV recognizes it

is that normal for everyone? or can you just plug in the cable w/o rebooting

im not seeing this problem anywhere on forums, it could be a wack cable, i did buy it from some sketch merchandiser on ebay i think for $9

So I've been running LithiumMod 1.0.12-Blue (based on FRG01B) for the last 2-3 weeks now and it's just freaking amazing.

2.6.32.9-P3Droid Kernal #8, running 900mhz max, 600mhz min

I am on 14 hours unplugged with 70% battery life left, with average usage throughout the day. (after clean wipe, no JuiceDefender)

I'm still running Kangorade (v1.1 I believe) - its started to get sluggish and re-drawing the icons / widgets on the home screen after closing almost every program

Does LithiumMod address these issues? I'm OC'd to 800mhz

If you don't have the 2.2 leak installed already you really should get it.

I was testing out these new batteries I just got which is why it says it was only running for 25s (the %'s are also way off since it was reset by changing the battery). I took it off the charger at 4pm and drove 120 miles while using navigation and text messaging occasionally. At my sister's birthday dinner I used wireless tether for about 30 minutes to give the droid 1 I have internet access so my mom could play with it. My sister's boyfriend also played with it for a while at dinner comparing it to his droid 1. I also had about 15 minutes of voice calls. My battery is at 70% right now.

Froyo makes a HUGE difference. Before installing the 2.2 leak it would be at 70% after 10 minutes of use. I even ordered the extended battery and bought 2 batteries off ebay because it was so bad. I'm thinking about cancelling my extended battery order (since they were on back order the instant they were on sale) and I probably won't even use these ebay batteries.

looks like someone pissed in motorola's corn flakes. Nothing that the rom developers won't take care of though once it's officially released

http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/30/motorola-says-leaked-droid-x-android-2-2-build-wont-be-updated/

Quote :
"Motorola says leaked Droid X Android 2.2 build won't be updated to the official release
By Nilay Patel posted Aug 30th 2010 at 9:03PM

Can't say this is a surprise, but Motorola posted a note on its support forums today warning Droid X users against upgrading to that leaked Android 2.2 build or any of those custom ROMS that're out there -- they'll be cut off from the official upgrade when it hits in early September and potentially "stuck on the leaked version." Ouch. Of course, that's the risk you take when you start flashing your phone with unofficial firmware, but between this, eFUSE, and those cease and desist letters, it certainly feels like Motorola is decidedly unhappy that anyone would have the gall to hack or tweak one of its handsets, even if the phone in question is the size of a small tank and marketed by aggressive murderous robot hands insisting that it "does" everything one can think of with no restrictions. Contrast that with HTC, which is not only at peace with the hacking community, but even takes the initiative to resolve similar problems.

Of course, no one would care about any of this if Motorola would just release stock Android builds for its devices as soon as they're ready, but why learn that lesson when it's possible to waste money developing Blur and adopting painfully annoying staggered OTA rollout schedules at the behest of carriers? That would just be silly."

^I wish there was some order to the way they do roll outs. Seems like they would reward the people that have had the phone since launch or reward the people that waited forever to get it or something. No Froyo for my Incredible yet.
