I think the last awesome era ended in the mid-90s.

I'm listening to the Guitar Hero mix of Metallica's Death Magnetic album.

It's so much better than the actual album release, which is compressed all to hell and back and mastered so damned hot that it clips and distorts things that aren't supposed to be distorted. It really sounds like shit and ruins what would otherwise be a solid album.
