I suppose you could do it in 2 steps if you wanted to, but if you're going to "crop out the damaged corners" anyways, why not just crop & rotate using only the crop tool in 1 step in photoshop? Doing it this way lets you fine tune precisely how much you rotate the canvas so you don't have to guess if it's 1 degree or 2 degrees or somewhere in between.

^ I'm guessing you meant Auto White Balance (AWB) and not Auto Exposure Bracketing (AEB)? It's a real pain to color correct images in bulk when they're shot with auto white balance b/c the camera can change the color temp from one picture to the next. Even if you set the white balance for your outdoor shots to a preset like tungsten, it'd be easier to correct because at least the photos would be equally as out-of-whack, so you could use the same correction on all your photographs.

went to the zoo yesterday

Everything was taken with the telephoto that came with the camera (not a kit; I got said camera from ebay), and man, I can tell. These pictures were so terrible. I took 470; I have sorted through 344 of them, and have 12 worth uploading. And then shooting through safety glass doesn't help matters either

^^I just moved to Brisbane, Australia. yeh, very nice place. Its just now turning into spring here so i expect things to green up and really come to life in the next month or so.

For every semi-infocus night shot, i had 100 blurry shits. hah I don't yet have a tripod, but for the pic of the boat at night, i rested the camera on top of a fence post. This camera/lense doesnt have any image stabilization and its proving to be pretty challenging.

I have a couple noob questions. When i was shooting at dusk and night, the pics came out much brighter/lighter than the actual night. Like in that boat pic, the sky looks dark blue, but it was pretty close to pitch black in person. Also a lot of my dusk shots turned out like bright, vibrant, sunny day shots. Is this the whole point? What if i wanted a real black looking night sky?

Any tips for shooting in bright noontime sun? Is it best avoided? Almost all of my bright day shots were kinda overexposed and washed out.

I shot at preset white balance of cloudy, but because of the weather condition and changing every 5 minutes its just a guessing game. Pretty much every 5 or so pics, the color balance could be off by 1500+ kelvin so I can't use the same presets for everything. And yes, I mean the AWB but the auto detect in cs3 raw not in the camera. 90% of the time it guesses pretty good when I do use it, specially with speed lights since those can throw some crazy temps at different power outputs.

I was at a store yesterday and in the sale bin they had an EOS Kiss Digital X for 54,800 yen. I think that's around $500 these days.

Does anyone have experience with these cameras. Are these cameras worthwhile at all? Is that even a good price?

Tilt-shift. you need a pretty spensive lens. you can use a vijtage one too, but i think those are shift-but-not-tilt.

so the camera tries to meter the exposure by averaging the amount of light over the metering area (which is anoption you set - matrix, spot, or center-weighted) and guessing that it is coming off of the equivalent of a flat 18% grey card. (I'm sure I have that # wrong btw...). So when you meter off of a light thing ( a white wall, maybe) the camera is guessing wrong about the target's light reflection and the camera will underexpose the shot. Take a picture of the sky at night and it comes out too bright.

press the +/- button and turn the thumbwheel to the right to tell the camera that you want to underexpose the shot. I am in the habit of taking a shot or two ,checking the Lcd, then correcting the exposure or white balance

I bought the Canon Rebel XTi about a year ago and really like it. I had used the film version of the Canon Rebel and had liked it, so that is a major reason I got it in the digital over other similar brands. As a whole I really like it though as it's fairly easy to tote but still does a whole lot for the price.

Oh I probably will end up getting it next, especially if I start doing more concert and sports photography, which it looks like I will be, shooting for the UM yearbook and a concert blog-esque site i've been in touch with.

Unless I do the tokina fisheye 10-17 first, which is tempting.

I'm just not grasping buying a lens that's twice as expensive as my camera quite yet


especially since the equipment room on campus has one for free, but I can only get that for sports and not concerts, which will be the majority of my shooting.

I'll probably take the plunge around christmas or later.


the 85L is pretty sexy too but even more expensive, anyone have this one?
