Does "collapse too badly" mean getting a punt blocked and then losing a fumble on the next series?

It's still early, they could recover.

[Edited on December 31, 2011 at 8:16 PM. Reason : I really like their orang helmets, but I'm glad they didn't go with orange pants to match]

^ Yeah, that would qualify...

Thankfully Auburn didn't get any points off that last one.

Let's go Hoos!

UVA COULD have taken Auburn easily, but that didn't mean they would.

If you were to ask my dad (UVA alumnus along with both of his brothers) what the defining characteristic is of UVA athletics he could immediately put his hands on his throat and make gagging sounds.

Right now he and my uncle are probably watching the game and saying something along the lines of "well, just another Cavalier choke job."

Well since it's just the opinion of my dad and his brothers this is merely anecdotal, of course.

I don't have any statistics for how often they've complained about UVA blowing games versus how many times they haven't complained about UVA blowing a game. Using the UNC crowd counting technique I'd say that they've complained about something of that nature during 66% of the games which I've seen with them.

[Edited on December 31, 2011 at 9:35 PM. Reason : The notable exception being NCSU@UVA in 1996, when even my dad couldn't complain about UVA's play]

UVA has played very well in this game but Auburn has outsmarted them and tricked them and gotten lucky numerous times.

2 blocked punts, a 68-yard return, tons of random strange trick plays that worked... I don't watch Auburn, is their offense always relying on trick plays this much? I think it would be much closer without that, but I'm not familiar with them really.

I wouldnt call them trick plays (like a flea flicker) but their whole offense (especially when they dont have a freak like Newton) is based around misdirection and confusion

Sometimes it's hard to believe just how much faster the top third SEC schools look when playing non-SEC teams.

"Sluggish" wasn't a word I would have used to describe MSU but damned if Georgia isn't making them look slow.

Early in the game though, Georgia could slow down. Of course SC is losing to Nebraska right now so it could just be that I didn't realize how fast the Bulldogs are (since Ala and LSU got the lion's share of coverage this year).

What? Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl had a 6-6 team playing a 6-7 team.

Or did you mean conference record? ( 6-10 for Gator and 7-11 for Kraft)

I just assumed 6-6 was as bad as you could be to be in a bowl. Isn't the gator bowl still a really high bowl?

Nope. They gave up being a conference's #2 bowl and eventually wound up with the low-to-mid teams from the Big Ten and the SEC. They still have a good payout, but they kinda gave up on being a high level bowl.

Yeah, pretty frustrated with a lot of these bowls.

Why are they playing 4 bowl games on a midafternoon Monday when a lot of people are at work? I can't even watch the first half of the Rose Bowl unless I leave early. Which I probably will.

I agree. Pretty strange to have 4 games with pretty high interest teams on at the exact same time....

otherwise, this bowl season has not been that great

What am I missing here? Why the hell is Oregon favored vs Wisconsin by 4.5?!?!

Is someone hurt or suspended or something?

God I wish i'd seen this when it opened at 6. Truly bizarre.

nebraska playing usc in florida
wisconsin playing oregon in cali
osu playing UF in florida

people wonder why the SEC plays so well in bowls, well maybe because all the significant bowl games besides 2 are in SEC states.

As I mentioned here before, the BCS (if it sticks around) needs to have a northern bowl site. NYC would be perfect (playing in the giants/jets stadium).

SC just won a good game in the Capital One bowl. Miles was killing it today on yards. Now if Wisconsin can just get this win, I'll be content.

^^ Yeah that's totally fair. Good job NCAA. I hope it doesn't affect RW's visibility. Nice helmets though.

I agree with this. A BCS game like there would be a hit and would be fair. And lets not act like people wouldn't travel to New York City because it's cold. It would be a destination bowl. The Big 10 and to a degree the Big XII kinda get fucked with fanbase travel in these...

What planet do you guys live on? Tickets are split 50 50 and the big dogs travel wherever. The bowls are where they are for a reason. Watching football in the cold sucks and walking around cold cities is not the ideal vacation. Notice how all of the big bowls are in all of the places with nice weather.

LSU could play OSU in the sugar bowl and the fans would be split 50-50 and Alabama would show up in droves for a game in Singapore. Traveling is not an issue for major programs.

[Edited on January 2, 2012 at 4:58 PM. Reason : why don't teams run fake fg on 3rd down in that situation?]

They are all dedicated and will pack the stadium regardless just like you guys did for the belk bowl but thats no reason to punish the people and make it miserable. The week leading up to the game has all sorts of festivities parades and people are able to do outdoor activities and tailgate in AMAZING weather. Look at the current sites. All are great for vacation.

Pasadena- insane weather and LA
Glendale- insane weather
Miami Gardens- insane weather and Miami
New Orleans-chilly but amazing destination that has a dome

You could look to move into a city in the North that is a better destination yet has a dome but all the cities with domes suck. NYC would be nice with a dome stadium.
