you sure? seems like multiple people have suggested firing him at multiple points in the season

look, if Debbie wants to fire him after our bowl game, i would be fine with it

but until the season is over, i'm not the type of person to obsess over how shitty he is

I've also made it clear that I wouldn't want him fired middle of season, saying this explicitly. Nothing about that post says otherwise, deciding I'm ready to fire him =/= firing him right now.

I don't think anyone is calling for him to be fired mid season.

I'm not saying fire him mid-season but there's a rule that you can't obsess about how crappy he is mid-season? Please. Obsess away, otherwise people will be right back on the "he's not that bad" bandwagon should he eek out a win against BC next week.

doesn't really matter if people on TWW think he sucks or he's not that bad, thats not going to influence what Debbie does or is already doing

people are gonna discuss it on here regardless

i just think its dumb to make a "FIRE TOB" thread after we win a game

firing someone midseason is not the same as firing him before the bowl. it makes most sense to fire them after the last game of the regular season (bc) so that you can hire your new guy asap.

firing him with one game left is not firing him midseason. also, he doesn't have to be fired. just make the decision that he won't be back next year.

^Ouch.

They should put an asterisk next to all the records opponents set against NCSU indicating that before you think this is anything special... the record came against a Mike Archer defense.

Does anyone think Maryland leaving would hurt a ACC coaching search this winter?

The uncertainty of the ACC may make it harder for BC or (gasp) us to attract coaches.

Hell if Clemson and FSU leave, we could keep TOB and be arguably the best program in the ACC.

^^Maybe if Virginia, Duke, VT, GT, UNC, and Miami leave as well. Just us in one division and WF and BC in the other... and still miss out on the conf. championship game.

Don't forget Notre Dame. We'll be playing them twice a year.

I don't understand how people think the conference is ending when we just added three powerhouse programs, lost one program and will quickly replace it with an equivalent program

3 steps forward + 1 step back + another step forward = doomsday?

: We currently have 14.5 teams soon to be 15.5. The conference aint going nowhere even if two more teams leave (fsu and clemson) 13.5 is still a huge conference.

TOB advocates point to 8 win seasons in recent history but in 2011, that 8-win season was against competition ranked 88th in terms of strength of schedule by collegefootballpoll.com. That was the weakest schedule by far in the ACC, that's right, 12th. The average strength of schedule for ACC teams in 2011 was 47th.

This week, we are 62nd in SOS, but that is before playing Boston College, the 107th-ranked team in the nation. After we play BC, our SOS ranking will drop to 11th and will be right there with UNC as having the worst SOS in the conference in 2012.

What does this mean about TOB and the "strength" of the program?

In 2011, half of State's 8 wins were over teams in the bottom 1/5 of the FBS or FCS schools (2011: Central Michigan: 106, Maryland: 109, Liberty(FCS) and South Alabama(FCS).

In 2012, all of State's wins except FSU are over teams in or near the bottom 1/3 of the FBS or FCS schools: Maryland: 91, Wake Forest: 85, UConn: 78, Citadel(FCS) and South Alabama(FCS).

To summarize, TOB won 8 in 2011 and six games so far in 2012 against the weakest/easiest (2011) and 2nd weakest/easiest(2012) schedules in the ACC, one of the weaker conferences in the FBS. With the exception of the Florida State and Clemson games, the 2012 season has been a 5-4 season against mediocre/bad opponents. In 2011, take away four games against some of the worst FBS teams and two FCS teams, and you have a 4-5 season. Three of those wins were not over great teams either (UVA: 49th, UNC: 58th, Louisville: 59th).

TOB has gone 14-10 against the weakest/easiest schedule in the ACC over two years. This supposed program "strength" is a mirage enabled by a schedule concocted by lining up bad/weak OOC teams and playing .500 football against the conference beating most of the bad teams and losing to most of the good teams.

Is this success, after 6 years? This is the year of great expectations when TOB said he had depth and experience. This kind of football is the best we should hope for? Is there any reason to think this program is improving? No."

Every team in the ACC has a similar middle of the road SOS. Weird thing for that guy to hang his hat on. But I guess that's why he posts on SFN.

From espn insider on the top potentially open coaching jobs. We're #5 behind Oregon, Auburn, Tennessee, and Arkansas

Quote :
"Current status: Not open
Odds of opening: 7/10
It's been a strange season for the Wolfpack. It lost in the opener against Tennessee, which has already dismissed its coach. It later waylaid the BCS title chances of the league's only viable contender, FSU.

Spoiled and spoiler, it has left Tom O'Brien in a most precarious position. With a veteran quarterback, Mike Glennon, and an experienced defense, many presumed NC State could at least hang in there in the division against FSU and Clemson.

No, the Pack weren't really even all that close. Despite a win against the Seminoles, they are currently three games back in the division (and barely above .500 overall). They were outscored by 27 by Virginia. They gave up 62 points last week against Clemson.

However many times O'Brien seems to have the program on the right track, there are subsequent missteps that undermine the progress. Like any other ACC program, there's room for more successful teams. And NC State has a lot to boast, like palatable facilities and a relatively strong in-state recruiting base."

what's the likelihood he retires after this year? though he has several more years on his contract, he's been talking up this group of seniors as ncsu's winningest group, his marquis qb is gone with no certain starter ready to take over, we're obviously (with tob) gonna be rebuilding for at least one year best case scenario.

paterno said back in '05 or so he was coaching for one more undefeated season. what could tob be coaching for, keeping in mind it's highly unlikely his current contract gets extended barring some unprecedented (given tob's track record) overachievement? there's no way we realistically compete for an acc championship within his current contract. might as well just hang it up after this year, right?

he's coaching to make an impact on the lives of the players and I'm sure he doesn't think winning has anything to do with that.
