It's 2.2 without most of the blur stuff. I'm about to load it up and see how much different it is. I've been switching back and forth between the 2.2 leak and FlyX so far. FlyX is pretty cool, though wiping data was brutal times.

it may not be a cell phone, but with the commercial they have the guy carrying it around in his coat pocket, in the grocery store, etc., implying that it would be something you take with you and can put in a pocket. does seem too big to carry around outside of a bag.

found mecanto... it's ok... there are a few bugs/missing items though..

it works, but there is no widget, it doesn't show up in the task/notification bar, and buffering between songs takes too long... the good news is, is that it is unlimited storage for free

still would take suggestions

Went by the Sprint store and played with the Epic. Definitely a nice phone and all of the transitions are smooth and fast. It actually felt good in the hand and not overkill like the Droid X and Evo. Only issue I saw was that the backlight on the touch sensitive buttons go off randomly and you have to guess where they are.

The battery use is probably negligible when compared to the screen and data hungry apps. I'm sure it'd be easy to get used to but it's still an annoying bug. I wouldn't hesitate in saying that it's arguably the best Android phone on the market though.

3 usb cables, via pc, wall, truck. pc recognizes it and i can transfer data.

took it to a verizon store and every battery we put in it the phone said 20% battery, even though other phones said differently. it had been stuck on 20% but now it's down to 15% even though it's plugged in...

vzw guy couldn't even get the phone to do a hard reset/wipe... and we got in an argument over the use of ATK. Anyways, he has ordered me a new device, which I'll get on Tuesday. So I just did a hard reset via the boot options.... hopefully that will get me through until the new one

that seems to have solved the battery issue... but now i'm stuck in a damn activation loop...

ha, I ran into the same problem after doing a factory reset. I'd run through the activation and it would say successful but I still had no Verizon voice/data connection. Reboot and the activation screen would come up again. Verizon overnighted a replacement but that one has even more issues so I'm getting another one on Tuesday. joy joy.

My Epic shipped yesterday and will be arriving on Tuesday. Good 'ol USPS--if it had shipped via UPS, it would already be here (the deal included overnight shipping).

I haven't had a phone since end of July, when I had to return our Evos. Well, that's a lie, I had the Droid 2 for 2 days, but the signal bar was completely unreliable. Before the Evo, I hadn't had a phone for all of June while I was waiting for the Evo to be in stock.

Now that I have a great deal on Sprint, I hope to buy future phones in-store and not deal with all this web bullshit. Cell phone providers really need to take a lesson from Amazon. Everything I order arrives in the amount of time they tell me it will or less, and popular items are rarely ever out of stock (and definitely not for 3 months like the Evo was).

EDIT: wdprice3 You should check out subsonic. I think you have to download a server app for your PC, but it's like the old SimplifyMedia on iPhone (until Google bought them out for their upcoming service, probably baked into 3.0). It's a free trial and then 10E for the server software.

The lockscreen doesn't look very good but I don't care because I have access to everything I need without having to unlock the phone.

I like almost everything about the black glass theme though there aren't really many to try for the DX so I don't have really anything to compare it to.

well, I uninstalled all themes/add-ons, reinstalled them one by one and now the issue is gone. if I had to guess, it may be the ad-blocker since it's in the beta stage

^^^I'm guessing all of that customization is from a custom rom?

I had that problem with dolphin on 2.2 and just stopped using it.

The ROM I'm using is Birdman's FlyX v0.1 final which you can get here or as a download from the ROM Manager (which you need koush's Bootstrap program to run). It's basically the 2.2 leak minus a lot of the bloat and comes pre-rooted and deodexed (more info about it here).

The theme is 928Droid's Black Glass. He has versions of it for almost every ROM (including DX odex'd 2.1). You can get it from http://www.928droid.com/ which I linked in my above post.

The lockscreen is just WidgetLocker with a bunch of shit on it, which I know isn't pretty but is very functional.

P3Droid over at mydroidworld has released another 2.2 leak ROM which has even less Blur in it but it still has a bunch of issues and I reverted back to FlyX after a day. I would have gone back sooner but I had to reroot my phone using the Droid2's files and method and while that method works, isn't perfect.

AdFree (to get rid of in app ads (doesn't work on all))
Shootme (for screenshots, much better than drocap2 imo)
Titanium Backup (lets you backup apps and data for when you have to wipe data for a ROM)
Root Explorer (the best file manager/browser for rooted users)
Terminal Emulator (handy for when adb is having issues)
Droid X/2 Bootstrap (to get into custom recovery install the ROM manager)
ROM Manager (for installing custom ROMs and backing up your current ROM)
Busybox (no idea wtf this does but I know a lot of rooted apps need it installed)

Those are the apps I use that require root. I'm always looking for more, useful ones.

anyone know of a good looking (preferably transparent with customizable colors) widget with a digital clock, date, battery/wifi/service status? basic a widget to replace the notification bar?

heck, I'd pay someone to make what I want. something to match my theme... gloss black transparent, few colors. takes up two rows as well.

so the top widget with the following changes & additions:

background is black gloss & transparent
Digit clock in same font as other text
battery level (green/yellow/red bar and %; indicate charging)
wifi signal bars/indicator
3G/CDMA signal bars/indicator
maybe something else that is useful....? temp...?

^My friends are like that but I've never had anyone get confused at the android slider. Even non tech people get it right away and usually think it's cool ("oh you can silence it from here, neat"). Hell, my 5 year old nephew ninja'd my phone the last time he was here and called my roommate with it without ever being taught to use it or having used it before.
