^^it's totally awesome on PS3. They've already released a few extra characters and an extra course as DLC. Online is so well done w/that game, they have organized tourneys + such. awesomesauce.

HSG is WAY more fun than tiger. Not even in the same league. I guess it's more "arcadey", and the cutesy looks might be a turnoff for some, but there really is a lot of depth in that game.

Yeh i tried the HSG demo out. its alright. I'm still not sure itd be a game worth buying. All i do is peg the meter and hit the ball fairly straight.. get at least par everytime. seems kinda repetitious and boring.

new firmware is going to be great. Could have used it way earlier but it looks like it will be worth the wait. Bluetooth activation while already in game is a very nice little extra.

it's about time with the firmware 2.40.... Although I really wish they didn't leave it up to the developers to "support" custom soundtracks. They should really take a page out of the X360 playbook and standardize some of these features...

As far as HSG4 goes, I'm not sure which course is included in the demo. I'm assuming it's the very first one, and if so I'm not surprised it's boring. The courses get much tougher. Anyway, might not be everyone's cup of tea but I'm hopelessly addicted to it.

i got a jabra BT2010 today and its a piece of shit. it made my controller stop working and while it registered, it won't connect afterwards... fawk.

From what I understand you'll be able to have custom soundtracks in every game. However, most released games, unless patched, won't recognize that you're playing music through the XMB and will continue playing their own music until you manually turn it off or mute it in the games settings.

confirmed in the FAQ on the PS blog that this is NOT the case. All games have to be patched to even recognize that you're trying to play music from the XMB. Lame. Speculation is that it has to do with the patent MS has on "universal" custom music. Technically the ability is there in the OS, but the game itself has to call for it instead of the OS pushing it to the game.

2.40 is an improvement but they've got a long way to go. I don't think we'll ever see true cross-game invites and custom soundtracks ... but it's a start at least.

Right now MGS4 is rocking my socks hard enough that i don't give a shit, just sayin.

How do cross-game invites work on 360? Does the game hop right into the online match when the other person boots up the game? For example, if I'm playing GTA4 and send you an invite, and you accept it, will you automatically end up in my lobby?

If all cross-game invites do is automatically fire up the game (after you switch discs, of course), then I don't see much benefit. Saves you a button press, I guess.


custom soundtracks I agree... I don't think they can legally standardize it the way it is on 360. But hopefully games developed on the new devkits will all have it built in.

Just getting the XMB to come up in game was a pretty big leap for them. From there, I imagine further upgrades, like cross game invites and in game voice chats with your friends list, will come more naturally. You also have to remember they've done all this while simultaneously reducing the memory footprint of the OS. When the PS3 was first released, the OS reserved 64MB of main memory and 48MB of video memory. It's now down to 47MB of main memory and no video memory at all.

^It only took me ~7 minutes.

first of all i got tired of watching cutscenes and just wanted to play a game so i started trying to play metal gear online

first i had to update my firmware which i had done a few days before then sign up for the playstation network then i had to sign up on konami's website

i had to create a game id and konami id and they couldn't use upper case letters and couldn't be the same plus one of the passwords could only be all numbers

this all took me like an hour before i could actually play

is there anyone out there who's ps3 isn't finding the update?

I got on at 9pm last night figuring i'd have to install the update before i got to play. went to system update about 5 times, turned system off, entered and exited the game and my ps3 kept telling me i was up to date with my v. 2.36. Did they take this down for fixes or anyone know?

the naruto demo is pretty fun, especially when you really get into some air juggling back-and-forth with replacements
