I will not be a party to this very poor decision.” Though each CSU campus has its own police department, Alderden issues all cops on the Fort Collins campus a deputy sheriff’s commission card. He also runs the county’s jail, which campus police use after making arrests. Alderden said ban advocates have been unable to cite a single study or statistic to show that students will be safer as a result of a weapons ban. He’s convinced they will be much less safe as a result of the ban, which will leave most students defenseless. The ban establishes the campuses as “soft targets,” meaning armed criminals will have a reasonable expectation their intended victims aren’t armed. “There are volumes of statistical and anecdotal data that show populations are safer when law-abiding citizens are permitted to carry concealed weapons,” Alderden said. Six years after Alderden began issuing permits, he noticed the homicide rate in his jurisdiction had dropped. At CSU-Fort Collins, the ban includes pepper spray, in quantities greater than an ounce, and Tasers. “This ban, which is broad and encompassing, basically denies students at the Fort Collins campus any defensive capacity at all,” Alderden said. “It’s a weapons-free zone for law-abiding people, and it won’t do a single thing to keep armed criminals off of campus. It will only ensure them a lot of defenseless victims. The people who did this are lost in their own world of ideological liberalism. You would think people involved in academia would want to deal in data and experience, but this has been all about emotion.” Alderden said he realized the sentiment against self-defense is based in emotion after speaking with a public school teacher who asked him to stop issuing concealment permits. He showed her data that prove concealed carry reduces crime. He told her concealed carry would help reduce violent crime in Fort Collins and the rest of Larimer County — a sentiment shared by El Paso County Sheriff Terry Maketa and a growing number of ranking law enforcement officials regarding their own jurisdictions. “I made the whole case, based in provable facts. The teacher said, and I quote, ‘I don’t care about the facts.’ She only cared about her emotional response,” Alderden said. The student Senate of the Fort Collins campus opposed the ban by a 23-1 vote. That means CSU governors, and administrators who pushed for the ban, don’t seem to care what their customers think. The Student Senate at Pueblo approved the ban, only after administrators said “weapons” did not include Tasers or pepper spray. “God forbid we have something like the tragedy at Virginia Tech at one of these campuses,” Alderden said, referring to a notorious shooting spree in which a lunatic wantonly killed for hours, while a gun ban ensured him no students or faculty would shoot back. Alderden questions the legality of the ban, saying the legislature never discussed excluding college campuses when it passed a shall-issue concealed-carry law in 2003. The law requires county sheriff's to issue concealment permits to law-abiding residents without felonies, misdemeanor domestic violence records, or other other disqualifying conditions. Furthermore, he said students who ignore the ban won’t have legal problems if they don’t get caught. “If it’s properly concealed, so that nobody sees the weapon, it probably won’t be a problem,” Alderden said. In the event a concealed weapon is needed for defense of self or others, it would become evident to law enforcement. In that unlikely event, Alderden said, safety trumps legal concerns. “They say it’s better to be judged by 12 than carried by six,” Alderden said. That’s the advice of a lawman with a record of reducing crime. The ban is the work of academic ideologues, who theorize about safety and crime. my buddy has flown through RDU plenty with not hassle. however, he is a borderpatrol agent and I figure the ease was due to his federal law enforcement credentials. He has gone through with rifles as well though with no trouble. Just check with the airline and airport ahead of time and follow all their regulations.

I've flown to Montana with a gun. It's no big deal, just make sure you know the regulations that the TSA has to follow. Sometimes the TSA doesn't know wtf they're supposed to do.
At RDU the TSA wanted to search my bag out of my sight and I insisted they do it in front of me (which is the regulation).

In Montana they didn't really care too much, they just stuck my bag through the x-ray thing and it didn't take any time.

Go to the TSA website and print out the regulations and bring those with you to the airport.

I know Daropack and others were looking. I'm still coming up with nothing. But I don't want to ask the PD, Sheriff, or DA's office because I don't exactly want to alert them if it's not there. That's the quickest way to make sure it's on the next legislative agenda.

Houston man charged with murder after hit-and-run

A Houston man accused of shooting a 13-year-old girl after a hit-and-run has been charged with murder.

Police say the incident started when 24-year-old Richard Calderon's car smashed into a vehicle and then sped away. According to police reports, the owner of the struck car chased Calderon's car to write down the license plate number. But police say Calderon then started pursuing that car and opened fire.

Police believe the girl was looking out the back window when she was shot late Wednesday.

Calderon was charged Thursday. Investigators said Calderon is licensed to carry a concealed handgun. Police say he told officers that he thought he saw something shiny in the front-seat passenger's hand, and that's why he fired.

I hope he's convicted and I hope they make it a point that he's stupid regardless of whether or not he was legally carrying. I mean damn, hit and run and then he's the one who escalated the situation by turning around to follow them. He'd never be able to make the claim of self defense.

Does anyone know a decent gunsmith in the raleigh area? I got an old .22 that has been dry fired and there's a nick at the entrance to the chamber. I can't imagine this is a complex fix, just sanding it down, but I don't really have the tools. Who should I take it to?

Mr Ogburn over at PDHSC is said to be very good, but not particularly fast. The only work I had done was having some night sights put in and it took him like a week to get to it. YMMV, but I've never heard anything but good stuff about the quality of his work.

I have a stainless 6" GP-100 and I love it.



I'm not a fan of the Hogue grip though. I purchased one a few years back and it just doesn't feel right. I prefer the old factory grips. I think Ruger went with the Hogues as a cost saving feature plus many people like them more than the old factory ones.

Hogue does make an Overmold Tamer grip. I like that grip on my Super Redhawk (same grip frame as the GP-100). It fills the hand more than their regular Overmold and has a soft squishy insert at the web of your hand. That helps when you're shooting a 480 (405 grn at 1300FPS).

I've been interested in selling my ruger single six convertable and going after a mark i or mark ii. What would I expect to pay for each of those? I've heard numbers as low as $175-200, but as high as $300. I'm talking standardish models too, not the ones that are all tricked out with a competition barrel and sights and what not.

I got a question for you folks:

I'm going to a gun show tomorrow in Thomasville. I'm sure it will be shitty, but I'd still like to take my savage 187m .22 and my heritage .22 revolver and try to sell or trade them. How does that happen? I'm assuming I can't just tote a couple guns around. Do I need to have trigger locks on them or something? Also, the pistol is registered to my dad. Is there any legal way I can sell/trade it?

They will lock the gun for you when you enter. You can just walk up with them. Selling the gun that's registered in your dads name may not happen though

there is no firearm registration in NC. he may have filled out the ATF forms then, but that means nothing now. if you obtain a purchase permit (and give it to your dad) or have a CHP you can legally obtain it and then do whatever you want with it.

so i was going through the safe tonight and have decided i am going to look into a something suppressed. the pops had a few mp5sd's through my years of growing up and they were fun. A friend had what i remember to be a ruger 77/45. i am not sure it was a ruger but it was a bolt action acp. it was quiet and fairly accurate as i remember. but here is my hold up. i like the idea of putting a suppressor on one of my ar's so i can shoot 223 and 22. i would also see if i can get an adapter made to put on my ruger mkII. thus i can have 3-5 weapons ready for suppression in the safe. choices choices choices
