It's one thing to lose because you don't have good players, but it's another to lose because you can't get your shit together on the road or you lack the discipline to play consistently.

Only problem i got with Gott is we can't play D. thats is why we are not a top 20 team.

We let UVA get whatever they wanted. We let Wake get whatever they wanted, we let MD get whatever they wanted.

good D = stops = transition opportunities.

another thing is we have no bench Also hurts playing 40 min of D - see unc game.

i dont think you can really blame gott for Painter and Harrow leaving, and that is the basis for our lack of depth.

also beating the spread while playing w/out our most important player for 30 min is hardly a bad loss on gott

I know about the whole "Gottfried's teams have never played good defense" thing, but we have no one over 6-8 that's any good, we play a 6 man rotation, and our best on ball defender is a freshman. Those things make it tough to be a solid team on the defensive end. Lewis not being a serviceable back up like AJ last year and the transfers of guys like Harris/Painter have killed us in our 3 ACC losses this year.

with the exception of harris i dont think the transfers would do anything meaningful at full power. honestly, painter is a pretty average player. however, we would absolutely have a better record with them. i just dont think beating uva today is ultimately going to change how this team plays in the acct and ncaat

Players we could still have this season to help with depth:
Julius Mays
Josh Davis
Deshawn Painter
Tyler Harris
Thomas De Thaey

Not saying all of those guys would have helped, but I do think any of the first 4 I listed would be better than Vandy and would help with depth, esp another G like Mays who could have helped last night in particular. Plus to say having Painter wouldn't be worth another win or so is not giving him credit, our bigs look gassed at the end of every game, Painter could easily help with that fatigue factor without such a huge drop-off like when we have to put Vandy in to rest them.

Yeah I actually liked the hustle out of Tyler Lewis last night, kid should get more looks, I'm not quite sure why Gott doesn't play him more. I know his D is suspect, but let's be real, our entire team plays terrible D. Purvis filled in better than I would have imagined at the 1 last night, but we're better when he's at the 2.
