What can I say, I'm not working as much out here as I'm used to back home and I have tons of free time. So I spend lots of that time buying and drinking beer here.

I would love to take you up on the offer. Have you shipped beer back to the states before? I'm just curious what would be the ideal bottle number to make the shipping costs the most worthwhile.

i know when i place some orders here in the states that 6 750mls are an ideal fit for a prefabbed bottle shipper. if you have access to something like that it may be a fairly easy operation

i, too, would be highly interested

we could ship to jeepin or myself, and then do a domestic shipment between each other, it would probably still be cheaper than multiple international packages.

I haven't shipped any beer back to the states from here yet. I'll drop by the neighborhood bottle shop tomorrow and ask them about shipping boxes and such.

Count me in, if someone would domestic ship my share to Denver.

If it helps I know most shops use Bpost, seems to make it to US fine, through customs and into USPS hands unfortunately, but typically only takes 10 days or so from Belgium, if someone there is willing to package the beers up.

I'd be interested as well. I live in Durham, but could arrange a pickup from anywhere around Concord, Charlotte, Raleigh, or Durham.

nice.. i'm excited to head up to NYC this weekend. I'm not a huge Brooklyn Brewery guy but we'll be checking out their tap room at some point. Other than that i'm wide open to suggestions in the midtown, UES area if you have them. Good Beer NYC is on my to do list for some bring home stuff.

Man i've had a few offerings from Wicked Weed out of Asheville lately and wow, they are hitting the ground running strong. Makes me so envious to have a place like that when Charlotte got scammed by a place like Heist Brewery which is the same concept but a complete opposite business plan. Heist is food first with C average beer. Wicked Weed is a month old with a barrel program, sour program, and top notch year rounds already, not to mention a great pub/restaurant on site.

Also, OHB Seven Devils.....seems like a much lighter version this year.

holy crap the Hopslam nuts are out in full force this year. I feel for the bottle shop owners getting dozens of calls and tweets each day about it. Yesterday alone at my shop at least 6 people called and another 6 walked in (and out) only looking for it.

looks like we are going to go on a little brewery tour in Asheville in early March. Gonna try and check out Highland and Wicked Weed, any others of note that I should shoot for?

Highland is alright, but it's a little out of the way. I would hit Wedge Brewing since it's on the outskirts of town then park and walk through the city. Wicked Weed and Green Man (not Jack of the Wood bar) are my two recommendations for Brewery/Tap Rooms.

Headed to San Francisco in March. What glorious beers should I look for while I'm out that way? Russian River is definitely on the list.

since you are an avid homebrewer I'd recommend checking out Jamil's new Heretic Brewery. It's in the SF area.

That Highland Devil's Britches is pretty tasty...I've been drinking a lot of that and Great Lake's Irish Red.

I always hit Pisgah, Wedge, and Green Man. All three are cool spots, Pisgah less so unless it's patio weather because the bar/brewery is in an old warehouse. The beer at Green Man can be a snooze, but can be awesome if you hit them with some seasonals or one-offs. Based only on one visit, Wicked Weed belongs on that list as well - just go straight to the downstairs tasting room.

LAB isn't worth the time. I'm a Highland fan and the taproom is kinda cool, but besides a couple lackluster taproom exclusives, you can drink that stuff anywhere - it's also been crowded and touristy. The exclusives in my experience have been unimpressive barrel aged versions of their standards. There is a distillery in the same building as Highland that offers tours and tastings. ABC has a cool patio, good pizza, and decent beer that never changes - meh overall.

Both stores, Appalachian Vintner and Bruisin', are worthwhile. AV can have some cool drafts on at any given time. French Broad is pretty near AV, and has a little tasting room. The best draft locations that I've been to are Barley's, Mellow Mushroom, and Thirsty Monk.

Been enjoying my beer week... drinking a bottle of Deschutes' Dissident tonight, had my second bottle of The Abyss a few nights ago, and followed that up by cracking open the first bottle from my Westy 12 brick. Nom.

Goose Island Big John

Elysian Mortis

What's currently in my suitcase hopefully making it safely back from NYC. Was a little underwhelmed by the beer scene up here, but I was also with a buddy who doesn't drink much beer so it was hard to check out everything I wanted to.

I've been the biggest Unibroue supporter for a long time now, but still, I've drinken hundreds of beers in the past 4 years since I've had my first Unibroue beer (Trois Pistole) and have yet to find a better brewer.

I had 750ml bottle of Maudite after my session beers during the SB game tonight and I was completely blown away by its quality, once again.

Someone, please prove to me that there is something better out there.

I don't see them get a lot of love either but I also really enjoy just about all of their beers. Definitely one of my favorite all around brewers. Trois Pistoles and La Fin Du Monde are probably my favorites. They Vintage Ale they brew for Trader Joe's every year is a great value beer as well.

Unibroue is about as consistent a brewery as you'll find. I think they get plenty of love, but they don't get a lot of discussion because they don't often brew one-off releases and the core beers are readily available in just about every market. But talk to just about any craft beer person and I guarantee you they'll have good things to say about Unibroue.

I love them- and the fact that they make trader joe's beer every christmas

On a different note, I tried French Broad's Wee-Heavy-er Scotch Ale yesterday... was not impressed at all.

^^ Yes, you said it better and your reasoning is probably right. I meant that I never hear them talked about but you're probably correct that it is just because they are consistent and don't do lots of special beers that tend to get more discussion just due to the nature of things.

Eesh...I got trashed last night. But before I lost my sense of taste, I split a delicious Brooklyn Black Ops and Lagunitas Imperial Stout. All downhill after that.

I had Unibroue's Ephemere the other day..can't say that I found it to be all that impressive. May not be the right type of beer to try that truly represents the brewery..I'll try La Fin Du Monde or Maudite next time.

ha. Yeah, Ephemere is my least favorite of all the Unibroue beers I have had It's not bad, but definitely not a good representation of the brewery at all.

Trois Pistoles is still my favorite from them if you like dark belgians.

I'm skipping out on the Hopslam insanity this year. I'm not sure how all the locations are handling the release, but I know the Total Wine in Brier Creek is going to sell one 6-pack per customer starting at 9am this Saturday

As a growing beer enthusiast, I really want to get my hands on hopslam, but I am not willing to battle with the hop head horde to get it. Maybe someday I will, but I will be content to drink some other great ipa beers.

^^honestly you might be able to find it after the initial surge. a case sat on the shelf at my local HT for a month after the hoarder mob got their fill.

wasn't there a kid ITT last year or the year before that got like 3 cases and couldn't drink it all before the hops faded and it became a malt bomb?
