I have a iPhone 4 and a Samsung Captivate, I can say that TW is pretty awesome. I develop for both Android and iOS and have experience with all the Android Skins, TW is one of my favorite. I think the UI is little nicer on sense but I agree with ^ that TW is just a little more stable and smooth. I LOVE swype and find it to be one of the major advantages Android has over iOS. I still find the market to be shitty and hope and pray everyday it will improve.

ok thanks, i knew about the desk cradle thing, but didn't know to go under DEVELOPMENT in the applications menu... i got it working now. thanks

downloaded some cool apps, anything else useful i should know about the fascinate? until there's a way to unroot the phone i'm not going to root it, but is there anyway to completely customize the home screens by default? i like the one main home screen, but i don't like the giant weatherbug on it, and then i have 2 home screens that are both blank by default, and i can't see to add anything to them.

it was announced in June at Google I/O, the new market is probably going to coincide with Android 3.0 in Q4 2010

You should have 7 screens. To adjust the number of screens or to set another as default, swype the screen and you'll see dots across the top of the screen and a little gear on the left. Touch the gear and you'll see a little thumbnail view of the screens. Swyping left or right will move you to the screen in that direction and hitting the little "-" in the top right will delete it. To remove an app from a homescreen, long press on it and drag it to the trash can that appears at the bottom. To add a widget, long press on the home screen and choose either Samsung Widgets or Android Widgets. To add a shortcut to an app to your home screens it's probably easiest to open the app drawer, long press on the app icon and then place it on the screen where you want. One nice thing is that you can also rearrange apps in the app drawer. Hit the little gear up at the top left, long press on an icon and it will allow you to move it. This will let you have all of your frequently used apps on the main page if you want.

^thank you! i figured out how to customize the home screens, but couldn't figure out the app drawer thing. that is nice.. until someone finds a way to un-root the phone and i can actually root it, im just gonna move all that bloatware crap on the last page and put all my good apps on the first page.. thanks

loving the phone so far.. the screen is amazing. and its way better than my old blackberry, a lot more apps.

do you have a screen protector on yours? i was thinking of buying one, but i've been hearing that the gorilla glass is pretty much scratch resistant, so I haven't.. any opinions on that?

yeah, I have the Verizon screen protector. It seems to work ok and doesn't hold finger prints like the normal screen.

And after a day of moderate use including about 30min of phone calls, I'm down to 46% battery while using wifi.

okay, yeah i might go back and just get the cheap verizon protector.. i like those better than like those invisishield things that are permanent..

i had some of the basic verizon protectors on my blackberry, and they worked good

go to voice online... check your settings. there's and option to fwd GV texts to your mobile. turn it off. I believe the default state is on, it's some carry over from before Push became available.

I don't think that's it. I meant i was basically getting each text twice on my phone; once from gv and again from handcent, which i just uninstalled a minute ago. Free texts doesn't mean anything if they still come in the same as before

this.

Just like google voice forwards calls to all your numbers, google voice forwards texts. Obviously the google voice app is going to display texts just like gmail app displays emails, but google voice is also forwarding text messages to your numbers, so it makes perfect sense why you'd be getting them twice.

Also the only way google voice is 'free' is if you have unlimited data on your phone.

with the existance of google talk and other free-use IM apps that most friends also have, you think people want to pay an extra $15/month for unlimited texting?

Galaxy users should check out realook sp's on amazon. They are amazing, and good price. I split the cost with another XDA user.

Does it cover the whole front or just the visible part of the screen like the regular carrier screen protectors? Wonder if I can return the verizon ones with one used.

I had the glitch where the phone would only vibrate on calls instead of ringing. Ended up having to factory reset it.

Droid X oopsie.

The realook SP covers ALL of the screen. You can't even tell I have one because you can't see the edge of it. Strongly recommend.

I bought a SP from seidio when i ordered my case. Very pleased thus far.

And it covers all the glass, like the realook.

^ not even a short comment?

My extended battery came in for my DX yesterday. One thing I didn't think about when I ordered it was the new backplate. I have a full Zagg invisishield and now my backplate is bare, kind of annoying. The old backplate fits, but just barely, it's a very tight squeeze and getting it back off is a bitch. I'm not sure if I should try using it for an extended period.

Was bored on my lunch break today and played with the Fascinate at the Verizon store...

Solid device, but the screen just didn't seem as...crisp...as the X's. Not sure why. Colors were vibrant, but it just didn't seem as smooth...like I could see every pixel.

I did like the weight and size better, though.

I messed around with it myself out of curiosity. For the most part it seemed like a wash. Both phones were light enough that I don't think I could tell a difference between them; either way they are both extremely light. I actually liked the screen on the X slightly better as well as the shape of the X. Overall I think either phone seems like it is a solid device but I have no regrets about biting on the X .

So my Droid X decides today to only let me do stuff in landscape view... even when holding it in portrait. Messed with the orientation setting, removed the battery and got nothing. Everything I opened was in landscape no matter what. The compass setup indicated that the rotation of the phone was just fine and is registering, but the orientation does not change.

Customer support was no help... ended up doing a factory reset and it resolved the issue. Now I have to re-download everything and sync shit back up.. bleh

Still love it though

Download App Brain when you get your stuff set back up. It makes a list of apps on your phone on a web server so you can re-download everything when or if you have to reset. I did this yesterday, actually.

After getting my first Fascinate stuck in a force close loop, I'm now on my second. I can either keep it or trade it for a droid x where they're back in stock. I don't know what I'm going to do yet.

No force closes here. Did they try a factory reset? I do have to say that this gps shit does get annoying if you want to hurry out of somewhere. Had to just turn it on and let it sit while driving in the general direction I thought I should be going in and it finally picked up after about 5 minutes.

^^ Let's just say that I would advise staying well clear of the factory reset button if you're rooted a Fascinate. Unless you have a signed ROM to replace the stock OS (which no one does), the phone is effectively bricked. Luckily, the Verizon store I get my phones from is full of sympathetic Android aficionados.

weird, i'm not having the same GPS issue with my fascinate yet.. i've tested it 3 times in the past 2 days just to see if it works and it hasn't screwed me yet.. it will say "searcing for location" but if i just push the button to start the step by step directions, it works fine.

who knows. Mine always takes 5min or so after not using. Example: This morning going to work, I40 East Bound was blocked past the split and I turned on navigation to figure out how to get where I needed to go. It showed the navigation screen but sat with "Searching for GPS" for about 5 min before it started the actual voice navigation. Then I tried to use nav again on the way home and it did the same. Maybe I'll go by Verizon tomorrow and see if they've heard of any similar issues and have them look at my car charger. Charger is about 18months old so they'll probably just say buy a new one.

lol. Talked shit about it and it just locked on in like 15 seconds.

Just got my Fascinate today. First time I tried out the GPS, it was searching for a signal for 10+ min to no avail. Needless to say, I was worried. However it finally locked, and now it locks within 10 seconds each time I turn it on...weird.

Yeah that's bizarre, it's never taken my original droid more than 20 secs or so to lock down the gps location, and that's even with cell tower location assistance unchecked.

For anybody looking to get new phones in the near future, I just checked my ebates.com account to see if they had any deals and found the following:

Verizon:
Fascinate for $10
Droid X for $180
Incredible for $80
those prices plus $35 cash back from ebates

AT&T:
Samsung Captivate for $50
Xperia X10 for $10
those prices plus some cash back from ebates but I don't remember how much

It looks like the sale goes through wirefly.com which I don't know anything about so there may be an extra ETF similar to Amazon and stuff. Anyway, its worth a look. If you want me to look up other phones to see the price, lemme know.

If you wanna use ebates, PM me and I'll refer you and we both get cash monies.

[Edited on September 14, 2010 at 10:26 PM. Reason : those prices are with new contracts]
