I guess he's still credible since our four ACC losses were by a COMBINED 7 points. That's pretty impressive as it comes with losses. Our win over UNC was more than that. It's not like we're getting our asses kicked or anything. It doesn't make the losses any less shitty or disappointing but I think it's safe to say that NCSU is still objectively a really good team. Sure, we've got some issues to work out but I don't think that's unreasonable or even realistic for Gott to achieve the team we truly want to see in his second year. It seems like a lot of people think we were supposed to kick ass and take names this year. I think we're still building up.

We beat UNC and Duke by more points than the 4 ACC teams who beat us could muster combined. Is it disappointing? Of course it fucking is. Does that make us a shitty team? Fuck no. Does that make Gott a shitty coach? Fuck no.

I think anybody who says our losses are troubling in the sense that it might possibly mean Gott isn't credible is full of shit. A shitty coach would get us shut out routinely in games (see Sidney Lowe for more details). If anything, our losses mean we have minor/moderate issues to work the fuck out. Losing by 10-20 points routinely is a sign of big problems; losing by 1-3 points isn't the omen some of you think it is.

None of this matters very much.

It would be nice to have beaten the best team in the ACC with our rotation of six men and one retarded kangaroo, but whatever. The real credibility test will come in March when we see if this team can go farther than last year's team.

They're the showtime pack, and every March game is showtime. That bodes well. Maybe.

he's also not a great coach and his track record proves that. our only chance to make the final four with him is if we have a team loaded with talent and experience...oh wait, that's this team. being 16-6 at this point is not a great sign that'll happen although it's still possible. his E8 team at alabama was an 8 seed

Other than the Ok State loss...it's not like we're getting blown out. We lost the last two games because our best player was out (almost winning both despite that) and took a top 5 team to the wire in their own house. We beat a top 5 team in Duke (with not much difficult), and we had a top 15 come into our house, on winning streak, and should have beat them.

We're just not finishing games. But it's also not like they are Sendekian finishes to games either. It comes off as players mistakes and bad luck to me.

Ankle injuries don't happen because of "wear and tear". Maybe you suggest we bench all of our best players against physical teams because they could get hurt if they are on the floor.

Exactly. We have lost by one possession to two top 4 ACC teams without Lorenzo Brown.

The only troubling losses have been Oklahoma State and Wake Forest. Even Maryland was always a bad matchup for us and the first conference road game.

I'm gonna say this. You cannot win games in college basketball if you can't coach defense. Period. Not necessarily saying we'll never be able to play defense, but there is a sample size at this point. Offensive scheme and decent recruiting won't always do the trick. The motivation issues that others have noted, I actually chalk that up to Lowe recruits. Defense, naw brah.

i think once we've had the time to accumulate a little depth to go with the premium talent gottfried appears to be acquiring we'll be a better defensive team going forward.

Not that we'll be a top 30 defensive team or anything, but we were #65 defensively last season so the #144 ranking this year has to be a bit of an aberration.

Very frustrating. Duke can't match up with us at all. We shouldn't score 85+ points and still not really be in the game. Just unacceptable. Zo please come back this weekend dear god.

lol ok. lowe's second year we had a losing record and lost to ecu. gott is just over halfway to his first season loss total, we're a definite tourney team, and have the talent to make a deep run.

You don't think that being ranked #144 in the nation has something to do with our lack of depth?

Obviously it has something to do with the fact that all three of our freshmen are horrible defenders and we lost our best two (CJW and johnson) in the offseason too.

But Gottfried's teams were never this bad on defense at Alabama. This year is an aberration. Not being in the top HUNDRED is ludicrous.

gott isn't a good defensive coach. this year is a bit of an extreme yea, but so is the level of talent and offensive performance.

unless we hire an assistant who is an elite defensive coach we're just not going to be good on that side of the ball. it doesn't change. like TOBs recruiting
