Criminals walk at about 1 mph, I know this for a fact.

Unless they're holding the O button of course. Then they're sprinting, but they'll run out of breath and have to recover soon.

This isn't astrophysics here buddy.

Nutjob asks for a map:
Quote :
"But can someone show me a map of where the store is, trayvons house and the path he took to get track home?"

I tell nutjob there is no map:
Quote :
"Look dude, if his walk was meandering all throughout the neighborhood you'd best believe that stupid map would be posted all over our Facebook Newsfeeds etc by people like you. There's a reason you can't find it. It's because it doesn't exist."

If you have any beef here, it's with the nutjob who asked for a map, for not keeping his query about Travon's path in line with the other nutjobs who question the timing, not the path.

See look, you agree with me:
Quote :
"It's not really a "map" argument. It's more of a map+timestamps argument."

What did other people conclude about the accusation that the skittles and drink were for a drug cocktail?

Admittedly, if he was posting about this specific drug on FB, and if there was some specifically relevant damage to his liver, that would be convincing. But I doubt that the connections are that clear-cut. I'm lacking personal experience. Someone who's done this drug would know better. Is the drug mix what's selling all the skittles and fruit punch these days?

I want some liberal's opinion. Is the idea outrageous to you?

Do they have records of him posting about the concoction on the internet? I haven't heard about it if so. If that's the case, then it's all meaningless and biased conjecture, just like the bullshit about his path through the neighborhood.

Secondly, even if he told the convenience store worker that's what he was doing, what does it change about the context of the events of that evening?

Here's the thing: liberals have repeated over and over again that he was carrying ice tea and skittles. It's used as a symbol of how benign and non-threatening he was. That's the motive for digging up this information. And it's not even a bad motive, because I am 100% sure someone will argue to me again that he was carrying skittles and ice tea. It wasn't even ice tea.

So the answer to my query is "nothing."

Also WTF do you people want. The kid is already dead. I don't see the need to continue trying to smear his name just to justify the shooting. He's fucking dead. The shooter is was found non-guilty. What's the point?

^^^ Nothing, in the same sense that nothing any member of the public has ever said about the trial changes anything about the context of the events of that evening.

It should be clear that all this about Trayvon's record is being circulated to hurt his character. We had this discussion in TSB about whether someone's record of drug use, fighting, school record, etc. affects whether they're likely to try to punch someone out. People want to know if a guy used drugs, because guys who use drugs will start fights. It could follow that the more people are using drugs, the more paranoid, and the more likely to throw punches they are. The claim about the skittles and drink is that he was about to use drugs. Put together, the picture is that he had recently used drugs, recently sold drugs, and was in the process of procuring things needed to do more drugs.

If you think this suggests that Trayvon started the fight, you're probably a conservative. That is probably 100% correct for Bill Whittle, the guy who did that video. It's probably also correct for several personalities on Fox News. Those aren't "real people", but they reflect views that real people hold.

Quote :
"Marshall Coulter, 14, is in critical condition after being shot in the head on Friday by Merritt Landry, 33, a white homeowner and buildings inspector for the Historic District Landmarks Commission who believed Coulter was trying to break into his home in Marigny.

But according to police, Coulter was unarmed and did not pose a threat to Landry, who has been charged with attempted second-degree murder.

The police warrant states that Coulter was near Landry’s vehicle, about 30 feet away from Landry’s home, when he was shot around 2 a.m. Landry was alerted to Coulter’s presence on his property by his barking dog and claims that he went out to his front yard to confront Coulter. But as he made his way toward him, Landry says Coulter moved as if reaching for what he feared might be a weapon. Believing his life was in danger, Landry fired at Coulter, hitting him in the head.

But NOPD investigators dispute Landry’s story:

NOPD Detective Nicholas Williams spoke with an unidentified witness who gave an account that differed from Landry’s, though the detective did not specify how. Williams wrote in the warrant that Coulter was not trying to enter Landry’s house and did not pose an “imminent threat” to Landry.

Landry’s attorneys issued a statement on Friday, saying, “This incident is terrible, and Mr. Landry feels terrible about how things have occurred. Nevertheless, we remain convinced our client has done nothing wrong, and we are sure — as facts come to light — it’ll become clear that Mr. Landry will be fully exonerated of any wrongdoing.”

White Neighbors Stick Together

Landry’s neighbors have also defended him, citing the fact that he has a pregnant wife and baby daughter. His friend and neighbor, Charles Hazouri, told the Picayune, “He’s got a family. You’ve got to protect your own.” Hazouri also expressed concern that the shooting would garner as much attention as the murder of Trayvon Martin. “Unfortunately, I feel bad about it because I hope it doesn’t turn out to be another Florida deal,” Hazouri said. “I’m a permit holder and a gun owner myself. You’ve got to stand up for your family.”

Hazouri claims to have surveillance cameras outside his home that recorded two black teens riding BMX bikes in the neighborhood around 1:44 a.m. One of them, according to Hazouri, jumped the fence into Landry’s yard while the other stayed across the street.

Another of Landry’s white neighbors, who asked not to be identified, told the Picayune that he saw one of the same black teens the surveillance footage biking in the neighborhood around 8 p.m. looking at different houses. ”I thought about calling the cops, but the last thing I want to do is racially profile a little kid who’s just biking,” he said.

A Devastated Family

Meanwhile, Coulter’s family told the Picayune that he is paralyzed on the left side of his body and has only partial movement on the right. Should he survive, doctors warn he will likely have sever brain damage.

David Coulter, Marshall’s grief-stricken older brother, explained to the Picayune that he and his siblings have had a rough few years but Marshall is still a good kid.

Coulter is the seventh of eight children. Coulter’s 23-year-old brother, David Coulter, said he had largely raised the children after their father died three years ago of stomach cancer. David said he and his mother did his best to keep Marshall out of trouble.

Marshall Coulter, who had been on medication for attention deficit hyperactive disorder, was awaiting trial for “stealing stuff,” his brother said.

“He would steal — he was a professional thief, sure,” David Coulter said. “But he would never pick up a gun, not in a million years. He was too scared to aim a gun at the grass, let alone aim it at a person. No way. Before he’ll ever pick up a gun, he’ll be your friend first.

“He’s still a little boy,” the brother said. “Who pulls a trigger on a 14-year-old? What if it was your little brother or your sister? How would you feel?”

David made it clear that he has no interest in comparing his brother to Trayvon Martin, telling the Picayune, “That was Trayvon, this is Marshall. This is a whole different world. This is my little brother’s life on the line – I don’t care about anything else.” However, he did express a desire to see Landry held accountable . “I want to see a prosecution, not somebody who gets out after a couple of years. I want to see the system do its job for once.”

Racism

Protecting your family is one thing, but taking the law into your own hands is quite another. If Landry believed a bugler was outside his home, he should have called 911. Of course he has every right to go outside and check things out for himself. But he didn’t even bother verbally warning Marshall Coulter to leave when he saw him near his car. Even police are required to do as much. Instead, as soon as the kid moved, Landry shot him. And last I checked, there is no law that permits you to shoot a human being just because they’re on your property, especially if you haven’t even asked them to leave.

On top of that, this was a white man reacting to a black teen who did nothing to threaten him. But for Landry, the mere act of “moving” or “reaching” while black is threatening enough to warrant a gunshot to the head. Would he have reacted the same way to a white 14-year-old in his yard? Who knows. But the fact that his white neighbor and friend was suspicious of a black teen biking in their neighborhood earlier that evening simply because he was black leads me to believe that perhaps Landry’s mentality isn’t much different.

For those who believe Landry did nothing wrong, I’d like to know: would your conclusion be the same if a black homeowner had shot an unarmed white teen in his yard? If so, where were you when John McNeil, a black homeowner, was sentenced to life in prison in Georgia for shooting an armed white man who was threatening him and his son with a knife? Were you on the front lines of the protests to free him?

Stand Your Ground

Louisiana, where this latest shooting took place, has both a “castle doctrine” and stand your ground” law. The state’s castle law allows Louisiana residents to use force, deadly or otherwise, to prevent an offense against one’s safety or property in his or her “castle”, but the amount of force has to be “reasonable and apparently necessary to prevent such offense.”

Louisiana’s self defense laws also include a Justifiable Homicide statute that deems homicide justifiable if committed in self-defense by a person who “reasonably believes” they’re in imminent danger of great bodily harm or death. The problem with these types of laws is the definition of “reasonable”, or lack thereof. A white jury might “reasonably believe” that a black 14-year-old, armed or not, poses a danger so great that execution is warranted.

Louisiana’s stand your ground statute, passed in 2006, states: ”A person who is not engaged in unlawful activity and who is in a place where he or she has a right to be shall have no duty to retreat before using deadly force as provided for in this Section, and may stand his or her ground and meet force with force.” I imagine the legal issue here would be that Coulter never attacked Landry. He was just standing in his yard. So shooting the teen was not ‘meeting force with force’. Nevertheless, the Louisiana law is nearly identical to the Florida statute, so again, it all depends on the jury."

Three #000000 guys beat up and rob a white guy in The Adams Morgan neighborhood of DC. Before the attack, they yelled "this is for Trayvon Martin". It's being treated as a hate crime.
In all honestly, I think those guys would have robbed and beaten that white guy with or without the death of Trayvon Martin... I think they just wanted hiS phone and wallet. That shit happens all the time in Adams Morgan to people...

^^^ ha not at all... You're kind of a dick, or a hypocrite, for assuming kids doing stuff at 2AM are up to no good.

Back in my day, we'd creep around people's yards (as a matter of necessity) at 2AM. Once, a homeowner came out (we had flashlights and must have hit his windows) and asked what we were up to, the dumbest member of our group shouted "WAR!". The guy told us to go war somewhere else, which we did. End of story.

I'd have to know more about that story, but it seems like the gun nut over reacted, as gun nuts tend to do.

^ nah man, that's not possible... if moron used to fool around outside his house as a teen at 2 am, then you have to let other teens come into your fenced yards all day and night, every day. otherwise, you are a dick or a hypocrite.

Quote :
"If so, where were you when John McNeil, a black homeowner, was sentenced to life in prison in Georgia for shooting an armed white man who was threatening him and his son with a knife? Were you on the front lines of the protests to free him?"

anybody have the lowdown on this? IF this really happened in the way it says, america has a really warped and fucked system of justice, and it will bring the country down one day.

as for the current shooting of the kid... several questions need to be answered.

1) could the homeowner clearly see it was a kid, or was it too dark and he could only see a silhouette?

2) did he warn him by saying he has a gun and the kid/person should leave?

3) how did he feel threatened? article says the kid just moved and got shot. which direction did he move in, towards or away from the homeowner?

4) if he felt threatened, why didnt he shoot him in the torso, instead of the head?

it is a very sad situation, but that's one of the reasons why teens shouldnt be hanging outside the house at 2 am. where was the mother and the older brother? back when moron was a teen, i don't know the stats, but i would wager to say that the rate of the country's weaponization and police militarization was significantly lower. furthermore, people all over the world seem to be more reactionary and jumpy in this day and age than in the days when we were children. it is not wise these days to be roaming outside at 2 am, regardless of your age, unless of course YOU are the troublemaker, which that kid was--his older bro says he was a "professional thief".

This dude is going to go to prison.

My next door neighbor in Raleigh got into a similar situation, where he confronted these guys outside his house, then backed off and they followed him onto his property.

He went and got his shotgun, opened the front door and when they moved to attack, he blasted one in the nuts and the other in the knee. Then he called 911.

He ended up getting 3-4 years in prison because he didn't call the police before confronting the guys again.

This dude didn't meet any of the criteria for stand-your-ground self-defense arguments. The kid wasn't on his property, he didn't call the police first, he knowingly left his residence armed to confront the kid, etc etc. He'll get a long jail sentence thrown at him. This is absolutely nothing like the Martin/Zimmerman case.

Laws are different in fla bro.

If it was Texas this would have never went to trial.

Here are my thoughts. When I walked around my neighbor hood at night growing up my neighbors also thought it was suspicious even though we were usually just playing some kind of game. You know what I did to not get shot ? When they approached me I was polite, kind, and said yes sir/yes ma'am etc. and never got shot at once. Even though confronted with a shot gun and and a couple revolvers a few times. People don't like other people hovering around their shit in the dark.

The other pro tip.... DON'T FUCKING ATTACK THEM.

P.s. this was my own fucking neighborhood and let's face it I'd be considered white even though part Lebanese.

Just my $.02
