dev team isn't going to release an official hack for the beta firmware, it would be retarded for them to do so.

during the beta cycles, apple comes out with a new build every few weeks. the production OS stays that way for considerably longer.

if they burn a trick to getting it jailbroken in one of the beta builds (and apple inevitably fixes it in the next build), they've got one less way to do it when the production OS comes out.

i know they've jailbroken it, but have they unlocked it? Last i heard they still haven't unlocked the latest basband. you have to use the old base band freq patched into the latest OS version.

apple keeps making it harder and harder to actually GET to the baseband... but the way the architecture is set up, there will ALWAYS be a way to get to it - the question is how long will it take to find it?

^most def. I love Stanza, and they have tons of free books available now (new update prompted me to check again, hadn't checked since it was launched).


My #1 wish for the 3.0 software is getting rid of that 1-2 second lag every time you open one of the native apps (SMS is the worst, but it shows up for the clock + others too). It's just so annoying to me.

oh, evan..i did that thing you posted to get tethering working and now my mms button is gone and voicemail doesn't work--i have to call to check voicemail instead of getting it like normal on the voicemail screen.

any fixes for those problems? looks to be common but i haven't searched for a fix yet

they open as fast as they ever have for me. beta1 was fucking awful..like, sms and maps would crash about 50% of the time for me when i tried to open them bc it took so long to open them

they need to add "streetview" option for following the driving direction, in addition to "map" and "list" view. Kinda like the new GoogleMap directions layout

Personally, I would wait. I skipped the 3G version, but I plan on being first in line when the new ones hit in June.

Historically speaking they've always allowed current iPhone users to upgrade to the newest version of the iPhone at the discounted rate, but there's no way of telling if that trend will continue for the next release.

they let us upgrade from first gen to second gen (3G) for free because the cost wasn't subsidized so really they'd have been retarded not to. i'm not sure how they'll handle it this year though since we're only halfway through the 2 years of basically $10/month extra to pay for the full cost of the phone.

perhaps they'll make us pay a little more or trade in the old phones? who knows

Yeah, I guess I shouldn't have said things like "historically speaking" and "they've always" since it's really only happened one time in the past. Actually, now that I think about it, they better let people like me with 1st gen phones jump to the 3rd gen and get the discount. I'll be pissed if I get lumped in with all the 3G owners if they don't allow them to upgrade and get the discount.

the way it is set up in GoogleMaps right now, it will only show the street view of the corner/intersection/exit ramp where you are supposed to make the next turn, so as you are approaching it, you already have a visual in your head of what to look for.. after you turn on one street, it should be downloading the streetview of the next scheduled change in direction, so by the time you actually get there, the full-resolution pic should be loaded. unless you take a turn at every single intersection, i don't see why it wouldnt be able to keep up with it.

Ah, ok, that would be pretty nifty. I thought you meant you wanted it to show a realtime image of where you're at at all time. No way that would be possible, but yeah, if all it had to do was pull up what the next intersection looks like, that should be doable.

I thought I remember hearing something about them allowing Turn by turn stuff in 3.0. Is that not the case?

yeah...i think ill be one of the first in line for the new version as welll...whatever their top of hte line model is..ill definitely get it. I have been waiting forever to get an iphone...my verizon contract is up on may 5th and i suppose its worth it to wait a month to see if the new iphone comes out..
im just worried that I will be waiting around for the release of the new iphone forever...and i might not be able to hold my horses!..lol

Well, i got my iPhone flashed back to normal, no jailbreak, no unlock, and i'm rolling with my AT&T GoPhone card. I'm paying about $28 a month prepaid for 100mb and 10c/min calling with rollover and no contract. Its working out great. It's making me want to keep this phone for a bit. Maybe even wait till after the new iphone comes out so i can see what it is and if its worth upgrading to, etc. Judging by the value of old 2G iPhones, i don't think it'll hurt the value of this one too much by holding out till then to sell it.

btw, is the iPhone Dev Program $99 per year or does the $99 cover it forever?
