I have officially found something I plan to make into a sign or something DIY for the wedding:

Quote :
"“We are all a little weird and life's a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love.”
-- Dr. Seuss"

Yeah I'm thinking of putting it on the program or making a sign for it.... And I've decided I'm going to do handwritten programs, and they will be on a single sheet because a) I don't feel like spending hours trying to design something on a computer, b) I don't feel like having fancy programs, c) I like to doodle

(I plan on making copies, not doing 200+ by hand )

That's cute. We're using this Dr. Seuss one one on our programs: "You know you're in love when you can't fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams"

anybody know where i can find wines that mature on different wedding anniversaries?

i saw this done once where you get a wine that's decent in like 1 year, then another bottle that's good in 5 years, then 10, then 25

or however you want to do the increments.

anybody either a) know what i'm talking about and b) if you do, know where i could get some?

It's hard to truly predict which wines will improve in the future, actually

only a small percentage will improve with age (less than 20%, most people say)

but there are some guidelines for which ones seem to do better than others, and you can start with the wikipedia list if you like:

hmmm sounds similar to a gift someone i know got for their wedding

someone "adopted" a specific row, level and whatever so it worked out to their wedding day (10.2.11) for example

and they were apparently signed up for wine from that specific part of the vineyard

the girl i know seemed really excited about it as a gift

Hey TWW,

I've been playing wedding gigs in the triangle area for 6 years now. I've taught violin at the Meredith College Suzuki Program and now I teach in Cary and Wake Forest. I also play in local orchestras such as Raleigh, Durham and the Tar River Philharmonic in Rocky Mount.

I have connections with singers, guitarists, harpists, pianists, organists, string players and wind players. If you want some great sounding Canon in D when you are walking down the aisle, I will be the guy to talk to! So let me know and I can get it all arranged!

I charge $150 per musician for the wedding ceremony. Please e-mail me at encvlnvla@gmail.com for inquiry.

Thanks for reading!

^Sounds like a great price, and I'm sure you'll get some interest here. You may want to post a link to hear you play, or a list of music you can perform. Good luck!

Anyone know of a venue that can hold 250 people in downtown Durham that is in the $1000 or less range? I just got a quote from Bay 7 that made my heart stop lol.

What about the Durham Armory?

Durham Armory - 212 Foster Street, Durham, North Carolina

Please note: In January, Forest Hills Neighborhood Clubhouse and Spruce Pine Lodge will close for renovations which include making both facilities ADA compliant. Based on projections from the General Services Department, the facilities will reopen in late 2011. Please continue to check the site for updates.

The Durham Armory is located on the corner of Foster and Morgan streets and is available for rentals for your community or private event, whether it is a fundraiser, concert, wedding reception, seminar or family reunion. With a capacity of 585 in the auditorium/ballroom and an additional 314 in the balcony, the Durham Armory offers a large indoor space with lots of flexibility. The amenities include a large commercial kitchen, heating and air conditioning, coatroom, snack bar, tables, chairs, and ample parking surrounding the facility. Call the reservation office at (919) 560-4355, ext. 27202, for availability and rental rates.

Rental Times
Sunday through Saturday 8 a.m. to 2 a.m. (minimum six hours)
Closed during City holidays

There are also outdoor plazas:

Outdoor Plaza Locations
With the completion of the downtown streetscape, Durham Parks and Recreation invites the community to enjoy the four outdoor plazas (CCB Plaza, Civic Center Plaza & Center Parking Garage) nestled in the heart of downtown Durham. The outdoor plazas offer the perfect environment for meetings, receptions, banquets, parties, trade shows, concerts, expos and more! These plazas are centrally located, to provide easy access to the surrounding communities for people to enjoy after work socials or weekend events. Please consider Parks and Recreation for your next outdoor event.

•CCB Plaza - Corcoran and Parrish Streets in downtown Durham – home of MAJOR, the big bronze bull.
•Civic Center Plaza – located in front of the Marriott Hotel and across from the Carolina Theater
•Durham Center Parking Garage – 300 W. Morgan Street (rooftop of the Center Parking Garage)

For reservations and rental prices, call (919) 560-4355, ext. 27202.

Great prices, too! http://www.durhamnc.gov/departments/parks/pdf/fy11_fees_charges.pdf

Okay, pretty sure the Armory is about $1000. It's not gorgeous, but it will accommodate 250+ for a wedding.

^^ Yep, has to be Durham. Preferably with bus access. Pain in the ass I know

^ I emailed the Armory but have yet to hear back from them. Whenever I call the chick isn't in her office

I hadn't thought about the outdoor plazas though. I kind of worry about what would happen if the weather went to shit and security though since it would be in the evening. I'll have to run it by my boss and see what she thinks.

Thanks for the tips

The prob with the outdoor plazas is that the capacity isn't clearly stated online. And depending on the time of year, weather can be VERY iffy. But you can get that info when the rental office chick returns your call.

I need bridemaids dress advice... I'm in a wedding next June. And the bride wants us to wear fuchsia pink matching dresses (that's not the issue). She's still in the choosing stage, but so far I'm not thrilled with the choices. The one I did like, she found out didn't come in the bright fuchsia she wanted.

I know I should just suck it up and wear whatever she chooses, but she keeps saying she wants us to love it and wear it again and her dress choices are all $250+.

Other than David's Bridal, do you have any lesser expensive bridesmaids dress advice?

David's Bridals is about as cheap as it gets in the bridesmaid dress department. There's the formalwear department at places like Macy's but I feel like they're not as good as they once were and you never know what the selection is going to be color-wise.

The first problem is that she started looking for BM dresses at Victorian Rose on Glenwood (even though she got her dress at David's).

I'll definitely look at Alfred Angelo.

Victorian Rose has a few Alfred Angelo dresses. It's not where I got mine because they didn't have a lot of their selection, but they do have some. Maggie Bridal on Glenwood (opposite end) does have quite a large selection of Alfred Angelo dresses.
