I'm talking about him in general, not these last 2 games

and of course the first half was great

[Edited on September 11, 2012 at 10:17 PM. Reason : mainly referring to him not playing on a really good National Team while in his prime]

I'm sure AVB is thrilled he played all 90 both games on the break after not playing a game in months.

[Edited on September 11, 2012 at 10:18 PM. Reason : is stu holden EVER going to play for the usmnt again. is he still rehabbing?]

I picked up about 30 mins into the 1st half due to another obligation and agree we looked good for the remainder of the 1st half. I guess it was just bad timing on my part so it gave me a skewed perspective.

I felt like we looked bad for 90% of the 2nd half. I understand we only needed the W and had the lead but we just looked super unorganized.

I feel like this team has potential to be a great US team, honestly. Maybe I'm just drinking some Klinsmann kool-aid and I admit I'm more optimistic than most (and more optimistic than I usually am about my teams) but we have the pieces for a good team.

^ yeah, Klinsmann's subs were odd. I thought Williams did a great job at DM so it's kind of a head-scratcher that Klinsmann opted to move him to RM (where he's looked like shit) and bring in a completely out of form Edu. And Shea for Torres wasn't needed when we were already up a goal. Why completely dismantle our midfield when we were keeping the ball so well?

Agreed. I guess I need to go back and watch the first 30 mins that I DVRd now so that I get a better feeling of how we looked overall.

Roster for final two WCQs before the hex (if we make it) on Friday and next Tuesday

Quote :
"GOALKEEPERS (3) : Brad Guzan (Aston Villa), Tim Howard (Everton), Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake)

DEFENDERS (8) : Carlos Bocanegra (Racing Santander), Geoff Cameron (Stoke City), Edgar Castillo (Club Tijuana), Steve Cherundolo (Hannover), Maurice Edu (Stoke City), Clarence Goodson (Brondby), Fabian Johnson (Hoffenheim), Michael Parkhurst (Nordsjaelland)

MIDFIELDERS (8) : Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake), Michael Bradley (Roma), Joe Corona (Club Tijuana), Jermaine Jones (Schalke 04), Sacha Kljestan (Anderlecht), Brek Shea (FC Dallas), Danny Williams (Hoffenheim), Graham Zusi (Sporting Kansas City)

FORWARDS (5): Clint Dempsey (Tottenham Hotspur), Landon Donovan (LA Galaxy), Herculez Gomez (Santos), Alan Gordon (San Jose Earthquakes), Eddie Johnson (Seattle Sounders)"

No Jozy. I don't mind that he was left off but I'm little annoyed it was for Gordon/Johnson.

Jozy is in the form of his life. What could he possibly have done to piss off Klinsmann.

I'll admit I have no clue who Gordon is..

Seriously. If Klinsmann is going to call up Eddie Johnson, he might as well go the whole nine yards and just call up Wondolowski.

I like Zusi though. He might be a player.

No Donovan (or Shea) for the next two games now either. Ugh...

So any reason Boyd didn't get a call up? 5 goals in 9 games for his club.

Ridiculous that Jozy didn't get called up. Sit him on the bench if you're trying to punish/motivate/inspire him. His form is better than anybody in any position on the team.

Updated roster for tomorrow.

Gordon on this team is so dumb when he's not even the best striker on his own fucking MLS team.

My guess at the starting lineup: Cameron, Goodson, Dolo, Boca in the back. Williams, Jones, Bradley, Zusi in the midfield. Dempsey and Gomez up front. Bench is fucking weak as hell. Better hope we get some goals early because if we're looking for something in the second half, our only hope is Eddie Johnson.

What game was played in the middle of a soaking wet cricket ground during '06 WCQ? Was it Grenada?

Edit: Yeah, second leg of Round Two in Grenada. LOL @ the puddles: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqnQDwqgJYc

Neither, brahhh. Al Jazeera's new sports channel beIN available only on DirecTV - rights to all away games, I believe.

USA-Guatemala on Tuesday should be on ESPN5 since it's in KC. And it should be interesting since we could barely beat a pair of islands with 1/3750 the population of our nation.

I've been to Antigua dozens of times...cricket is bigger there than soccer. And just layin' around is even more popular than cricket.

Not that the US team shouldn't wipe the floor with Antigua, but I think the recent relative success may be due to Antigua now having a team in one of the minor US leagues. Most of the Antigua team probably plays for the same club.

bump for tonight's game at 7. we need a tie to advance and so does Guatemala. Hopefully we kick the shit out of them and Jamaica wins big at Antigua but I doubt either of those things happen.
