Wrestled with a timing belt installation all weekend. Damn crankshaft pulley's position has been slightly off both times I installed the belt.

timing belt done! and new water pump installed. and new engine mount installed. and new VTEC spool valve O-ring & filter installed. And new battery installed. Car still won't start

I believe the ignition module is integral to the distributor. Not overly expensive part, but the entire distributor assembly is original. So...haha. 1/16/2018 9:07:16 AM |

I put a Grant Rally steering wheel on it. Feels great other than the sticky rubber from someone using chemicals to clean it up. Some soapy water and a light coat of WD40 helped out a lot.

^^believe me, it was a last resort, and obviously I put on just enough to make it feel normal. I looked through Google for recommendations and soap/water was the best bet but it ended up not helping at all. I finally got around to diagnosing the non-functional power door locks and sketchy drivers door speaker.

What a PITA. The connector was full of white lithium grease, and the connector had 5/12 wires which failed at the crimp, and 3 more which were partially failed.
Honda Southpoint had to order the terminals (cheaper than getting them from Mouser surprisingly)
Yes, you have to take the fucking door or fender off to get to this. I chose the fender (easier to re-align). Now Im driving around with no fender waiting on the parts to come in.

03 Durango, everything in the HVAC box replaced. Heater core leaking bad and misting out the defrost vents.
03 Dakota, lf caliper replaced. Bottom slider and both pistons seized, fluid in bad shape, all because a dust boot was compromised. Will need to do a full flush when I get the time, and a quart or two of fluid.
Still need to jump the srt and fix the rattling heat shield and adjust the alternator belt on the Miata, replace ps cooler on the 99 Dakota, and install a few accessories on the f150. 2/24/2018 7:01:44 PM |

Car did AMAZING at VIR. Needs cage, driver mod, and upgraded brakes (factory VX trim setup is insufficient), but that'll come shortly... No mechanical issues or failures! She run's a little hot when I take it all the way up to redline, so, was short shifting at around 6,400 (instead of 7,400). Got a lot of compliments from others, mostly how unexpectedly fast the car pulled on the straights. Caught a few people off guard.
Will be at NCCAR in a couple weeks. To quote another forum member here:

Well, I haven't done it yet, per se, however, I did snag future upgrades for the Civic.
With 205/50-15 Azenis RT615K+, my brakes are overwhelmed. New rotors, Hawk Blue pads up front, and ceramic shoes on the factory drums just don't work like they should. The rotors don't overheat and I don't get any brake fade, but they just don't seem to have what it takes to stop these tires when they're hot. The brakes do work. I can certainly lock up my street all season 185/65-14s without any issue...
So now it's time to redo all the bushings, bearings, and balljoints here. I'll finish 2018 off with my current setup. 2019 will include a rear disk conversion and an increase in front rotors diameter from 9.4" to 10.3". Car has a bit of a push, so I'll be throwing on a factory 13mm rear sway bar to liven things up a bit
Larger 10.3" rotors on left, factory VX 9.4" rotors on the right
I lowered the Civic ~1.5" and corner balanced it myself with some scales I borrowed.
1992 Civic (full tank of gas)
I also weighed the Corvette and Civic wagon for fun.
2005 Corvette (3/4 tank of gas)
1990 Civic Wagon (AWD)

yeah. it's an 06 sierra z71 w/ 3.42 ratio G80 LSD. the noise started around 200k miles. not sure about the truck's first 90k miles, but i kept mobil 1 synthetic gear oil in it since i've had it. guy that did the work didn't seem too surprised by it.

Clutch hydraulics in the s2000 leaking fluid into the driver foot well. Wouldn't have noticed if it didn't turn my shoes black.
Shouldn't complain, overall this has been the best car I've ever owned, especially where maintenance is concerned. Need to change the accessory belt, but other than those two things I can't think of an issue in over 5 years. 4/16/2018 1:54:42 PM |

For the past few weeks the Integra has had some sort of ignition problem. Was clueless so took it to the shop and surprise surprise, the igniter inside of my brand new distributor (i.e. igniter was new as well) was faulty. Thanks for giving me a piece of crap Cardone.
Anyway, GS-R's powertrain is back to tip top shape. Next up, AC and ABS systems removal. Neither has functioned in over a decade - doing this will probably shed around 50 lbs from the front end of the car

I installed a b&m style shifter in the cayman. The factory shifter feels like it's connected to a big pile of laundry; I've never had a cable-shifted car before.
With the new shifter, it feels connected to a big pile of laundry... but harder to shift! I suppose it's nicer, but for the time and potential breakage of plastic tabs involved, I don't recommend it. I'm glad I bought a knockoff and not a $300+ name brand one. 5/1/2018 7:30:24 PM |
