Made the mistake of trying to take my 240 out the other day in the snow. I didn't get out of my driveway before it was over. Maybe an extra hundred pounds over the rears would have helped. Just got new all season tires on the day before (my car is an extreme case though)

Lol at all those people who were upset some of us called this a bust last night. I mean I'm not going to work today but I also only got maybe 3-4 inches here in northeast Raleigh. Guess I'll have to Goto work tomorrow .

I ride on summer tires all year. My car will stay parked until this mess goes away. Its about 5-6" of slush outside right now. My dogs love it.

The snow accumulation doesn't seem all that impressive in Cary, until I realized how much freezing rain was in there, oh god.

You win this time! *shakes fist*

This fucking sucks. 2" of total accumulation here just south of downtown, and nothing is frozen solid. So much for that snowman I was going to make. And hell, even my snow loving dog hates this shit

Parents in northern Durham got rocked. Just lookin at the pics they sent I'd say 6 inches. They've been without power since 11 last night. If this storm HAD dumped wide spread amounts of 8+ inches...Duke energy would be in over their heads for the next few days.

What does 40 look like? Gotta drive from Greensboro to Wilmington this afternoon. Greensboro got 6" in places, but the roads held heat from yesterday and faired pretty well with just slush. Plows did a good job too.

^^How are the roads up in Durrrrham?

Are the roads full of bumper to bumper cars that aren't moving?

I'm supposed to go to a show at Motorco tonight, and while Richmond isn't too bad, i'm trying to decide whether it's worth a three hour drive.

"Please accept my apologies for going AWOL. I guess I'm still old school in that I am used to using every bit of time I have to look at data, and then sharing that on television. I'm getting old, and it's harder to teach the old dog new tricks smile emoticon. As I reflect back on the storm that is currently winding down, and the days that led up to it, I'm wrestling with something. I completely understand that at some point, you have to make a call on what you feel is the most likely scenario. I may very well have been late doing that this time around. My excuse and/or justification for doing this was, and is, that I try very hard to be honest with everybody about how confident I am in the forecast. We have better tools than ever now to assess that degree of uncertainty. And frankly, I can't remember a situation where there was any more uncertainty than the one last night, even up to the point where the precipitation had started falling! Committing to numbers in that situation to me is like scheduling a wedding before you've met the girl of your dreams. Twenty five years ago, I was lucky enough to meet that girl, and then eventually did the wedding thing, but I digress smile emoticon. In any case, we got a lot of questions the past few days about so-and-so calling for this, that, and the other. I think this winter alone has proven that the folks that always go with the worst case scenario are doing so with one thing in mind. Every once in a blue moon, that approach works. I can promise you that I will never embrace that tactic. I remember my early days of insecurity, and they weren't about public service, but rather about me. Live and learn I guess....."

Well there's that time three nights ago where you forecasted highs in the lower-mid 30's for Raleigh and a trace amount of snow and it ended up not reaching freezing and snowed for 9+ hours.

Thats pretty cool! Interesting to see the tree limbs start to sag with the weight of the snow, and I'm assuming the street light power going out and coming back on sometime in the night

Not necessarily. The reason we didnt get as much snow, is because it rained/iced more. We had about the same levels of precipitation, just as different forms. While wet snow will cause some trees down, ice is far more an issue, which is what most of the issues are.

We lost power here in GSO and had no ice or sleet. Just heavy snow. It's back on now though, but quite a bit of the county is still without.

Yeah, can they change that map to "shoveling/masturbation"?

Cause I talked to people, and according to them, that's what happened.

Naturally, I just kept busy with my charity work.

The roads were fine tonight. Even had some cop tell me I was going "fast for the conditions"

They were fine. Would take a blind person to run off the road tonight.

You do realize this type of snow is as bad if not worse than ice, right? My parents got no ice. Still without power for 15 hours.
