If, by some ridiculous miracle, we do get BD...I'd be on edge for the next week just waiting for him to change his mind like he did with the Orlando Magic job.

How come everyone lost interest in Gregg Marshall? Obviously, he's not the big name coach everyone wants, but many people seem to not even want to consider him as coach.

Was there ever interest? There are a ton of attainable hires I'd like over Marshall, he is literally the worst case scenario imo

What is amazing to me is why Donovan hasn't just smashed these rumors. At this point he has heard them and all it would take is a simple "I'm not interested in the position" and we would (slowly) move right along to the next homerun target. He is already making bank so he isn't jockeying for a raise. To be clear I think we have no chance in hell with him, but he isn't in the tourney anymore he could just smash this rumor quickly. Bizarre!

whatever, I'm not prefacing my opinion on Donovan with "there's no way in hell we're getting him" anymore

I'm not saying it's a done deal but I think there's at least SOME legit interest from him

^^^Have the Donovan rumors gone national yet??

Until that shit has been reported on ESPN, then he really doesn't have any reason to "squash" them. Well...ESPN or local Florida papers. All I've seen so far are local media outlets and fucking garbage twitter posts about the "rumors."

I was just behind BD and yow at the checkout at Lowes. They were buying towel bars and a lawn mower and used murphy's credit card.

Confirmed by airpork 1 in the parking lot...

"After a brief stint as head coach of the Orlando Magic that lasted only five days, Donovan re-signed with the Gators on June 7, 2007, to a deal that made him the highest-paid head coach in college basketball, at $3.5 million per year"

That's higher than what is purported to be our offer of $3.2 million to the next coach

From http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/sports_bianchi/2011/03/gators-billy-donovan-do-not-get-credit-for-shaka-smart-of-virginia-commonwealth.html/comment-page-1

"Smart, who has shockingly led VCU into the Final Four where the Rams will play Butler on Saturday, was an assistant coach under Donovan for all of one season. He was an asstant at Akron for three years, then Clemson for two and finally Florida for one before getting the VCU head-coaching job.

You know my thoughts on Donovan. I believe he is the greatest college coach in this state’s history, football or basketball, but that doesn’t mean Billy D. gets credit for Smart. If Smart had been with UF for two or three years then, yes, he might be a branch on Donovan’s coaching tree, but one year makes him little more than a sapling leaf that broke off and blew away before it ever really became part of Billy’s botanical bloodline."

A one season relationship with Donovan? I don't see that as strong enough of a reason for him to get on a plane and fly all the way to Raleigh to tour the campus for him.

Either way, I don't get why Donovan would be here. We allegedly can't afford his current Gators contract, and I don't see a personal connection with da Shaka.

(from my entirety of 1 minutes worth of google research)

Shaka Smart doesn't have an agent and is probably pretty busy at the moment preparing for his Final Four game, so it's possible that he has asked Donovan to work on his behalf for now. Who knows?

I don't know much about Marshall, I'll admit that. Here's my concern though...his name has been around a while. Since before our last coaching search. And he's still yet to land a job better than Wichita St. There's got to be a reason for that. Clearly, he is a good coach...he did well at Winthrop and has had some success at Wichita St. But, the fact that he's still at Wichita is cause for concern IMO...teams have passed on him and there's has to be a legitimate reason for that.

No trolling here at all, but could State even begin to pay what Florida can? They have a pretty damn good bball revenue stream coming in, then you throw in the HUGE football vault and they are about as loaded as you get outside of Texas and ND.

Let's look at the facts:

Billy Donovan lives in Florida, makes 3.5 million a year, has won multiple national championships (which means he will never be fired). Why would he ever leave that situation...

Now Phil Jackson on the other hand has said that he is leaving the NBA, and called coaching in the ACC his "dream job," and has been in contact with Yow.

we were willing to pay 3.2 for Miller (reportedly)

how much could Florida work us for? Would they pull out all the stops and make him a billionaire to stay?

His $3.5 probably includes everything, incentives, shoe deals, etc. Our supposed $3.2 is supposed to be base only.
