Where demonstrations were once solely about the Second Amendment, speakers now quickly link protecting gun rights to safeguarding all other liberties and decry the new health-care legislation as unconstitutional in its mandate that individuals must buy coverage.

On April 12 in Richmond, more than a hundred people, dozens sporting pistols, cheered when Philip Van Cleve of the Virginia Citizens Defense League called for replacing the "anti-Constitution, anti-freedom, anti-gun" leadership of the state Senate and when Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli II reaffirmed his vow to be "aggressive in protecting the Constitution, as it was written."

There have been no accidental discharges or arrests at the open-carry rallies, according to a review of news accounts. The Fort Hunt rally, however, has caused particular consternation and alarm in the online world where gun-rights advocates plan, recruit and discuss strategy.

Oath Keepers, which in a year has grown to 20,000 online members, signed on early as an event sponsor but abruptly pulled out on April 12. "It had gotten to the point that it would be dangerous to attend," said board member Rex McTyeire, citing an escalation of threatening rhetoric online from some participants. "There are people out there willing to do anything to create chaos in an uncontrolled situation, and [the event] is wide open for disaster."

Organizers of another April 19 rally, the Second Amendment March at the Washington Monument, want it known that they have nothing to do with the Restore the Constitution muster. "We are a peaceful, law-abiding group that will follow all local and federal laws," the march organizers' Web site says. "That group is a separate entity entirely and is not at all associated," but at least two speakers are appearing at both rallies, including Larry Pratt, the executive director of Gun Owners of America, a key force behind the D.C. rally.

"It is our own fault that we are in this situation," Vanderboegh intends to tell those assembled, according to a draft of his remarks. "Each time these revolutionists of gradualism against the Founders' Republic took another bite out of the Constitution and shoved us back from the natural exercise of our God-given and inalienable rights, we have backed up, grumbling. We have not shoved back."

Gravelly Point, where the demonstrators will take turns going to from Fort Hunt, was chosen because it is as close to the District as they could get while carrying guns and also comply with local and Interior Department regulations.

When they stand on the river banks Monday and preach an activism that sounds to some like sedition, the armed demonstrators will have the full support of the federal government they fear, carefully detailed in the 26-page event permit, complete with the gun regulations of both Virginia and the Interior Department and a commitment to provide fencing, barricades and bike racks for the event.

"We handle tens of thousands of demonstrations of a First Amendment nature annually," said Dave Schlosser, spokesmen for the U.S. Park Police, "and we are handling this event no differently than any of the others. We assess what their needs are to allow us to facilitate a safe and successful demonstration so they can exercise their rights to free speech and free assembly without interference."

ah yes, jumping on a bandwagon is always a good idea! OC meets are all about the 2nd Amendment... that's their whole purpose. A small group 4-10 people come together to have dinner and light conversation. We also OC our pistols. What is so far right winged nut about that?

that rally is just like any other extreme right rally, but the folks will be carrying weapons too

Can someone link me to any literature on the 90 day waiting period for the CCW? Been looking for it and I can't find it on the durham county website. I'm on Day 88 and I want to be able to reference something when it's not ready in two days.

(a) Except as permitted under subsection (b) of this section, within 90 days after receipt of the items listed in G.S. 14-415.13 from an applicant, the sheriff shall either issue or deny the permit. The sheriff may conduct any investigation necessary to determine the qualification or competency of the person applying for the permit, including record checks.

do they charge you to update it? i got my CHP earlier this month and will be moving to Person county next month. my DL still has my mom's address in Wayne county, so i guess i need to change that to the Person co. address.

From what I have heard (I get to do this next month myself)....
You go to the sheriff's office with new proof of address. Then you have two choices. You can have a new one printed for $10 (last I heard) or they print out a slip of paper that goes behind it that has your new address on it. It is like and addendum or something for your current CHP. That is free though.

I'll probably go for a whole new one so I don't have to keep track of another piece.

When I moved, I got another card made for free. They taped it with my original and told me to keep them together, but the new one is on top.

The temp ID that the DMV gives you is okay to use as your proof of new address when you go to the sheriff's office.

ok, i called Person and Wayne Co sheriff's offices and surprisingly got the same instructions from both of them. that rarely happens with govt agencies in my experience. for those who may be in similar situations, here's what you do if you're moving to a different county:

1) have your address changed to your new address on your driver's license
2) go to the sheriff's office of the former county of residence and fill out a change of address form
3) ...
4) profit!

(the ... is apparently where the SO of the former county contacts the SO of the new county)

it's kind of annoying to have to run all over the state to handle such a simple task

I just did this, the former sheriff's office then prints you out a nice 8 1/2 x 11 sheet with the updated address that they want you to carry in your wallet until you go to the new sheriff's office and get an updated card

The Wake County Sheriffs Office told me that they don't remake cards for $10. It's either the free 8.5x11 paper or pay full price for a new card ($80).

Has anyone had a problem with moving from Wake to Durham?

Do they require you to apply again ? The only renewal form that I have found, has DURHAM pre-printed.

Durham county called me on the 87th day to tell me it was ready, so avoided any confrontation. Also, I had to only pay one $10 fee for them to access some medical file. IIRC Tulip and his wife/gf got hit up for a half dozen each or so. Weird how it varies imo.

Yeah, my wife got the same medical bills I did, but her permit was ready on day 85.

Anyone have a local source for cast 9mm bullets? I can get them online for about $50/1000, but that seems a little high for cast. What could I expect to pay for 1k cast at the upcoming gun show?

That's actually about what you can expect to pay anywhere. They used to be cheaper, like 35-37/k, but the cost of alloy went up at the same time demand did, and the prices haven't really come back down. At the gun show the only cast bullet vendor I have seen is Georgia Arms, and theirs are around $30/500($.06/round) which is still pretty average if you consider what it costs to ship lead.

I've bought a lot of cast bullets from these guys - http://www.missouribullet.com/index.php. Pretty decent prices and very good quality bullets. I load a lot of their "SmallBall" style 125's for general 9mm plinking.

A cheap alternative if you don't mind buying a little stuff is to get a pot, molds, and lead alloy from those guys or some of the vendors on eBay. You end up at about $.02-.03/bullet by buying alloy and casting.

Well, you have to pay money and get his ass to give you a presentation to hear the rest son.

You can easily look up the last bits though and finish the story on your own son. The incredible parts are detailed in that video and after that it is pretty uneventful. He gets located and brought back.


Oh, and somewhat recently these punks killed his dog (The dog was a rehab dog named in memory of his fallen teammates, I shit you not). Luttrell chased them down and personally saw to it that their asses were detained, even in his current state (And from my understanding, shit isn't all fine and dandy underneath that suit). If anyone is looking for 380 range ammo, check out Hill's Sporting Goods. They had quite a bit when I went there a couple of weeks ago. Their prices on 380 are quite reasonable compared to everywhere else in Raleigh. They had several brands.

No, I'm just a bit of a purist when it comes to repairing and restoring vintage firearms. The worst you will find at the shows are ones for about $120 or so that may have cracked stocks or worn finishes. Both conditions are easily repaired, but folks will just toss the old stock or cut it down and put a scope mount or some crap on it and permanently devalue it.
