Street Triple R:
New mirrors, new handlebar, controls remounted correctly, all tacky mismatched aftermarket fluid caps replaced with black aluminum ones, new fender, couple of new plastic trim pieces (original ones broken by hamfisted idiot previous owner not knowing how to remove/reinstall), fender attachment correct bolts replaced with correct parts, all dopey stickers and their adhesive residue removed. Blocky, clashing red handlebar clamp replaced with an original aluminum Triumph part.
...then had a super weird electrical issue, where the kill switch (on the right side) was toggling the high/low beam lights (which has the switch on the left side). Starter switch wouldn't work at all. Finally found an aluminum shaving in the left side switchgear (from where I drilled the new bars to mount everything) shorting things out.
Lotus 7 clone:
Not really advertised for sale yet, but I have 2 potential buyers just off of mentioning it on the LoCost forum. Cleaned it up and took a bunch of pictures for them. One of them is calling me tomorrow to discuss it (other one hasn't responded yet, but then, I emailed him at dinnertime on Thanksgiving, so I'm not expecting a replay soon.)
BMW R100RT:
ordered a stainless Keihan exhaust from the UK. Now that the Triumph is squared away, I'll start working on the BMW. Got the heads rebuild, full new exhaust, wheels powder coated and new tires mounted...thought about stripping the whole bike down to the frame and powdercoating everything, then repainting the body to make it perfect, but it's in pretty good shape and I think I'm just gonna keep it original. Just need to put it back together now.
Honda Insight:
Uhh...I put gas in it yesterday. Changed the oil/filter/air filter/cabin air filter/wiper blades a couple of weeks ago. Had Discount Tire rotate/rebalance the tires (free)--as usual, they fucked up a wheel stud, so now I have to go get it replaced (on their dime).
237,500 miles now...STILL nothing but scheduled maintenance and consumables (tires, wipers, front brakes...still on the original rears) with the following exceptions:
-a piece of rubber that got yanked out of the roof channel by an automatic carwash. -front struts replaced at 170k miles, just because RockAuto had some on clearance for practically nothing -3x wheel studs fucked up by tire shops -Wore a hole through the driver's floor mat, so replaced those with all-season mats.
So, basically...zero failures in 237k miles.

Back in September I installed the following on the Cayman:
Ohlins Road & Track coilover system Front OEM lower control arms Ground Control front camber plates OEM rear upper strut mounts Tarett solid metal bushings for rear lower thrust arm attachment point
Ride height lowered 20mm, suspension corner weighted, and camber set to -2.0F -2.3R
Love the way she drives now. Was brilliant at the track 2 weekends ago.

on my '66 mustang I've got new headlight bucket assemblies, new front valance, new stone deflector, new lower grill support, new grill, put GT fog lights on it, and removing rust from front bumper.
I should get it all put on and done sometime next weekend or so.

Triumph: put gas in it
BMW airhead: mounted the wheels and brakes back on it. Ordered head gaskets.
Bonanza: put gas and oil in it.

‘66 Chevy pickup: getting close. Exhaust is about to go on. My guy got delayed last week when he went to run the engine for break-in...water was getting into the oil in large quantities. Ended up being a faulty head gasket.

Pretty happy with it other than the fact that it doesn't quite pull enough power to charge itself while it runs. After about a week, the internal battery will show low as it fires up in "parking mode" (detects movement and/or shock, depending on how you set it up)
When I bought it, it actually had a $50 coupon. Today it's only $10 but I've seen everywhere in between when I recommend it to folks.

Integra broke down on the side of the road Sunday while I was driving back to Raleigh from Charlotte. Started showing electrical charging issues around mile 30 but got another 50 miles before she finally gave it up, lol. Had the alternator tested before I left CLT (passed) but apparently that doesn't tell you much about the voltage regulator, which I think is the problem.

Flew the Bonanza to Raleigh and got my ‘66 truck from the guy who has been restoring it for years.
It’s still not done, although it is drivable. It was not, in my opinion, up to being driven all the way to FL, and there’s a number of half-assed things on the restoration that I’m dissatisfied with, especially for the time and money that I’ve spent.
So...I left it in Raleigh at mom’s house. Whatever I do going forward, I’m done with having that guy work on it. I guess I’ll either have it shipped down here, or find a resto shop up there to have finish it. 3/11/2019 11:19:02 PM |

Independent dude, does it as a semi-retirement gig. He has done a lot of work for a guy my mom knew who had a collection of restored cars, but he did not meet the standard I wanted, and the pace of work (or lack thereof) and wildly missing deadlines (months and years) was just appalling. He didn’t charge me much per hour, but in the end, I don’t think I saved any money over having it done in a shop, who would have probably done it better and certainly faster.

Insight: washed it, wiped down dash and console, cleaned all the glass. Rain-X on windshield. Rotated tires, changed oil and filter, changed CVT and online filter (supposedly lifetime on that filter, but I do it abkut every 100k or a little more). Unfucked the underbody cladding where a shop I had look at something did a shitty job putting it all back on.
(Car was making a helluva noise, but I think it was something caught around a brake or something. I think it stopped once the car was driven in reverse, but at the time, I couldn’t see it on the side of the road, and thought it might not make it home. Took the R100RT to a shop to have them rebuild the brakes, sync the carbs, reassemble the top end of the engine (freshly rebuilt heads), install a new stainless exhaust, change all fluids (eng, fork, and diff oil). I could easily do all this stuff except the carbs and maybe the brakes, but it had to go to the shop for the carbs at a minimum, and I have too much going on right now to spend the time this would need. I want to go ahead and get my other bike back.
Plus, this is kinda testing the waters at a performance/hot-rod shop where I plan to have the '66 pickup and maybe RX-7 completed.
Also changed the oil on the Bonanza yesterday (10 quarts of AeroShell and a 25-dollar oil filter :beatup yesterday. Actually very easy to do, except the filter has to be safety wired. 4/20/2019 10:17:39 PM |

Blue thing (04 SRT-4): still at shop trying to get them to warranty their caliper placement from 5k miles ago. I could easily do the swap, but they were paid to do it the last time (I didn't have time) and it's not right.
Miater: battery only charges to 11.8v, ordered post adapters that should come in today so I can get the battery replaced for less than $150, then I have some shifter parts, speedo cable, and a few little things to take care of to get it road-worthy again.
Both need an inspection before Wednesday.
I want to sell both, along with the old Dakota.

Nothing sexy, but had to get some work done on a couple of my vehicles.
'95 Ford Ranger
Inspection was due but turn signal wouldn't indicate for right turns. Also had weird issues with windshield wipers randomly starting. Replaced turn signal lever. While I was working on that I also got a new ignition cylinder as the old one had been busted for years and would probably start with a flat head screwdriver. Switched that out and got it inspected on Monday.
'08 Mazda5
CEL was coming up for engine being too cold. Checked fluid level as it was a bit low and added. Issue got better but came back occasionally, mainly when wife was idling in traffic. Ended up grabbing a new thermostat and swapping that out and flushing the coolant system at the same time. Now she's running great.
'16 Mazda6
Bought this in November with all features, including the Bose audio system. Noticed a couple months ago that passenger door speaker rattled at higher volumes. After researching found that these speakers have a tendency to get some water on the back of the speaker bracket and cause a little rust, which allows the speaker cone to separate from the rear mount. Took the door apart and removed speaker and found cone was partially separated. Got some waterproof glue and fixed it. Now that shit sounds good as new.
