Nasri in a United kit would be tragic. It's time for Arsene to pony up.

Kun Kun is about to be in all white.

I wouldn't expect Damiao to be household name, I just thought it was notable that he was/is about to be our first signing. We got money to spend and we're not in the champion's league so we might as well roll the dice on a guy or two and hope you don't crap out.

£20m + N'Gog for Henderson is a brilliant piece of business for Sunderland.

its probably like 10 or 15 mil and david ngog, 20 million pounds total in the deal.

Yeah. Ummmm it's only £13m and N'Gog. If we paid £20mil and N'Gog I would have been pissed.

Great deal for both sides I think. I'm happy with it. Looking forward to seeing what Henderson can do for us.

[Edited on June 7, 2011 at 10:59 PM. Reason : I heard it can go to £16.5m with incentives possibly]

My mistake. Still a fair price mark-up on the kid, but that's just how it goes with young English players.

Dalglish reportedly targeting Charlie Adam and Stewart Downing to follow soon.

^It's all good dude.

I'm not thrilled with either Adam or Downing to be honest. If Adam comes relatively cheap then I'm okay with it. We have a ton of CM's though. Not sure where he fits in. I'd much rather have Mata than Downing if we can pick him up.

[Edited on June 7, 2011 at 11:20 PM. Reason : Don't think we'll get Mata though ]

Henderson, Adam, Downing... Kenny's building a squad, not just a good starting 11.

I read that getting rid of Ngog means they're confident they can get Connor Wickham too. Also read they'll be making a bid on Jose Enrique

United to sign Phil Jones from Blackburn to ward off Liverpool interest

Goodnight, sweet prince

meanwhile Arsenal sign another U21 player, this time from Charlton. And you guys were on me about calling Wenger the Herb Sendek of the EPL? This guy does not fucking learn.

This is the defensive equivalent of the Henderson signing. Overpaying for a talented English prospect when that position isn't your most pressing concern.

Still think both are good signings.

Gervinho said he's leaving Lille, so he'll probably go to either pool, arsenal, newcastle or city. I really hope he doesn't go to arsenal or man city, but I'd guess they'd be his top choices since he wants to play in europe.

I dunno

13 million for Henderson isn't overpaying imho. He's been linked with a bigger club all year and turned out the performances for Sunderland to warrant it. He's not going to be a squad player at pool for very long. I think he's Gerrard's understudy to be sure.

nor is 16 for Jones overpaying. He is a direct replacement for Jonny Evans (my hope at least) who will see significant playing time from day one and can also play in front of the back 4, which is something you can't really say about any of the current CMs at United. and like blanks said, that's England's future CB pair (also hopefully sooner rather than later, because on the real, fuck John Terry)

and now United are supposed to be selling Gibson, Brown, and O'Shea to Sunderland for 12 million total. what the shit

I think we both agree. It's just a question of how you define "overpay." 15m+ for a young player making the jump to the top club challenging for a European spot or league championship who probably won't play that much is probably "overpaying." But it's totally justifiable because of the English player premium and the state of the market, in my opinion.

I'd much rather "overpay" for a prospect like Henderson/Jones than stockpile a couple of shitty ass 5m signings that just take up space on your bench, have no resale value, and are basically just assholes (Poulsen)

Hate to see John O'Shea go, but not much point in keeping him. Gibson and Brown are worthless.

12 million breakdown:

10 million for O'Shea

1.9 Million for Brown

100k, two pints, a bag of chips for Gibson

Not sure I have any qualms with that decision. What's Aston Villa's turn over rate for coaches? One coach every 10 games? Plus they're about to lose Young and they've been on the decline for two years. Whoever takes the job should be terrified.

JT's not going to make it, so it'll be down to one of us

he said he's not coming back

also, some drama in Birmingham as Alex McLeish quits via email - speculation is that he's going to Villa. That would make for a tasty bit o'drama.

Sucks about JT

Usually early July is when he makes a new one I think. I say we should at least wait until the fixtures are announced before making a new one but if someone really wants to go ahead and do it then that's cool too. Doesn't make a difference to me.

Also, not sure why Wenger is being so stubborn about Cesc & Nasri. News out today says he is not planning on letting them go this summer. I mean as a fan I would like Nasri to stay but I wouldn't mind seeing Cesc go to Barca since I'm sure they would pay a decent sum for him. For the right price though I'd say let them both go and pick up some serious defensive talent for once with all that coin.

Still would have Walcott, Ramsey, Wilshere, Arshavin, Song, Diaby, Eboue, plus that new kid in midfield. Not to mention Frimpong, Lansbury, Eastmond, and Emmanuel-Thomas who have either been out on loan or playing in the reserves for several years now. One of them is bound to break out once they move up similar to Wilshere. Spend the money on getting Vermaelen and Sagna some help in the back.
