plane left Gainesville this morning.. http://flightaware.com/live/flight/N88MF
I tracked it all the way, I rushed to RDU and saw DY, Woodson, and a group of people getting off. I shouted "hey Billy" and I someone gave the wolfpack sign. Oh man, my heart is beating so fast right now. 3/29/2011 5:35:59 PM |

Has anyone considered that maybe money is not what is motivating Donovan to look outside UF? Maybe he is tired of being 2nd fiddle at UF even though he has built a great program and won 2 NCs. Maybe he is looking for his next challenge and wants to further cement his legacy by going toe to toe with Roy and K. Great coaches are usually driven by more than money. Plus if he has any success at State, he'll be lauded here a hell of a lot more than he'll ever be at UF.
we're not getting him anyway so it is a moot point 3/29/2011 5:37:40 PM |

That's the only thing I can see, is that he's tired of being over shadowed by football.
Per http://special.registerguard.com/csp/cms/sites/web/sports/24589462-41/million-donovan-coach-dixon-salary.csp
Quote : | "While Donovan’s contract calls for a $500,000 buyout if he leaves Florida, that doesn’t apply if he departs between March 1 and April 1 in any year, according to a media report. Donovan would, however, pass up a $500,000 loyalty bonus if he left Florida before April 1." |
Can't find anything per his base salary, so like Ernie says likely his total average salary is roughly $3.5 million including everything. Good call.

This is a great write up of Donovan and includes blips of Yow, but is from 2006. I'm not sure when he re-signed his contract with the Gators
http://jacksonville.com/tu-online/stories/060406/spo_3281473.shtml
Quote : | "With his next contract extension, which is expected to be complete in the coming months, Donovan could join only a handful of college basketball coaches whose contracts bring home a guaranteed $2 million per year, exclusive of any performance-based bonus incentives." |
Quote : | "Donovan's current guaranteed annual package of $1.62 million [2006], which doesn't include $257,000 in bonus money that he pocketed for the Gators' success this past season, will likely jump in the range of $2 million to $2.5 million with his next contract. That would give Donovan the rare distinction of being paid more than Meyer, something only a handful of schools are inclined to do because of football's greater revenue streams." |
Quote : | "As Maryland's AD for the past 12 years, Debbie Yow has felt somewhat of an inner conflict. A philosophical part of her believes it's "not healthy to have multi-millionaire coaches on campus," but the competitive part -which includes a stint as a women's basketball coach at Florida - wants to put the Terrapins in position to win." |

From Oct 2008
http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/sports_college_uf/2008/10/billy-donovan-f.html
Quote : | "The deal, which ends after the 2012-13 season, increases annually to be worth about $19.5 million minus incentives. Last year he was paid based on a stipulation, or even a handshake. The contract will pay Donovan around $3.4 million in the final year of the deal minus incentives. Most of his money comes from the school’s activities agreement, which umbrellas TV/Radio work, his Nike apparel deal, camps, promotional duties, booster activities and other factors. For example, $2.496 million covers his "activities agreement" duties for 2008-09.
The contract includes bonuses such as $50,000 for becoming the AP National Coach of the Year, $100,000 for advancing to the Final Four and $150,000 for winning a national championship.
If Donovan leaves the school without cause, he must pay the school $500,000. If the school fires Donovan without cause, he receives $2.5 million for every year left on his contract. This is big time — and it could have caused the 16-month holdup. If the Gators were to fire Donovan in two years, he’d receive around $7.5 million. This shows the Gators are serious about Donovan’s stability. However, there’s a window from March 1 to April 1 of any year when both parties can walk away clean, no monetary issues. Interesting. " |
