totally disagree on the "dont foul" strategy. Personally, i think it's gay to foul because it takes the fun out of end game scenarios, but it's clearly mathematically correct.

Let's say a team makes the three pointer about 35% of the time.

If you foul a 75% FT shooter he will make the first free throw 75% of the time. Then, they have to complete the "miss and get rebound and score" play 46% of the time for that strategy to break even.

Realistically, what percentage of the time do they complete that? Clearly it's under 10%. I bet most teams don't even hit the rim 46% of the time when they are trying to intentionally miss.

Just a hunch but Gottfried doesn't last until the turn of the decade. Going to be a lot of unfulfilled promise if he can't coach better than this.

He was lucky to inherit a ton of talent, but we may not have a more talented roster than this under his regime and we've all seen how poorly it's gone.

If we don't achieve anything this year and then miss the tournament next year we're going to lose all the momentum we've got going for us right now in recruiting. That's why Randle is so key, we need to make the tournament next year.

this all goes back on coaching fundamentals. our team can't make basic passes, box out and goes long stretches without running any offense

your timeouts always lead to turnovers

you play players that are obviously playing for the other team while benching one of our most efficient players.

no defense

we go under every screen giving wide open 3s all game.

Its a shame we have a lame duck coach and will have to wait five more years before getting another one.

Yeah we've all seen this play out at other schools across the country.

Coach steps into a good situation with a lot of returning talent and has either a good season or tournament run. National media picks up the story about a program on the rise. Recruiting trends hot for a little while, fanbase gets excited.

Then inherited talent leaves, results drop off cliff, recruiting goes cold... program ends up searching for replacement a few years later.

We're fast approaching that territory. Really only an ACC/NCAA run or Julius Randle can sustain our momentum. Otherwise we're way better than 50/50 to drop right off the map again.

Good post face, but I think the lack of defensive effort is partly due to lack of depth too? we need a Gott team, with depth, composing of a majority of his recruits to gauge how good this era could be.
