More Huge Batman news:

The movie opens in 3 days.

Seriously, this thread title made sense a year and half ago...needs to be changed now or a new thread started for the movie discussion.

By the way, the Star Wars Episode III trailer premieres on November 5.

^^For someone with over 2000 posts I am surprised. Why do you care? What is the point of making a new thread just because you don't like the title of this thread?

I think everyone knows that this is the Batman thread. If you start another thread, we will just continue in this one anyway

Reread what I said....I said change the title OR start a new one. Its just a somewhat stupid thread title for a movie thats coming out in 3 days. I wasnt planning to start one personally. I also have no clue what my post count has to do with anything.

If I could change the title, I would. And it seems senseless to discard pages pages of posts, just to have a more appropriate title.

bartleby used to close the threads and start new ones for discussing the release. People didn't like that.

^just got back from it, as a matter of fact. It was the press/G105 screening at Brier Creek.

My thoughts w/o spoilers:

Fantastic. The best Batman movie, IMO. I was afraid that whenever I saw Bruce Wayne, I'd see a mental picture of Christian Bale running around in the nude w/ a chainsaw - this is NOT the case. He's Bruce Wayne/Batman in my mind from now on.

All the characters were well cast - Gary Oldman was one drop dead Gordon lookalike.

Cillian Murphy sure as hell couldn't have played Batman, but his Crane/Scarecrow were right on the money - creepy and quirky. I actually looked forward to when he busted out the hallucinogens to see what fear he'd play on next. And yes, the fire breathing horse was FAN-TAS-TIC!

Although Katie Holmes was the weakest character by far, she wasn't that bad - she played her part and played it well enough. Unfortunately, she looks so much younger than the other actors that it leaves you scratching your head.

(Sir) Michael Caine was an amusing and witty Alfred - luckily, the movie shows just how much Batman/Bruce Wayne depends on Alfred as more than a butler, but as a father figure.

There's quite a bit more that I can say, but I'm afraid too much will give away the movie. I'll put it this way - as the credits rolled, I looked at my boyfriend (who is one of those Batman fans who knows every little detail from the comics and has been disappointed with the direction the movies have been going) and asked him what he thought. His reponse (and I quote), "I can die happy knowing Batman has been done right."

Definitely a must see.

eh
theres a pic somewhere of the two of them conversing
and if you read the Marvel vs. DC amalgam thing from like 8-10 years ago

you'll really see just how similar the two are...

i guess "rip-off" isn't the right word

but i will say this

cowl with ears => cowl with wings
chest with bat => chest with star
gloves with flaps => gloves with flaps
robin with inifinity eye wrap => bucky with infinity eye wrap
catwoman => diamondback

of course, cap'n got some story lines/plot devices in before batman did

robin dies <= bucky dies
batman breaks his back, has to win back his position <= captain america is fired for tax evasion, has to win back his position

ah, good ol USAgent - Johnny Walker

USAgent!

I have that book where he becomes the new Cap. Thats good stuff. He gets tutored by The Taskmaster

Yea, there are some similarites but I was confused with "ripoff". Thanks for the clarification. The parallels are pretty interesting.

Batman is just a ripoff of the Green Hornet, who in turn was a ripoff of the Lone Ranger.

Anyone see the old Batman series show that had the Green Hornet in it? It was cool watching Bruce Lee kick some ass

if you haven't read that run from the late 80s

apparently, when cap was presumed dead in the 40's

his parents recieved his death benefit

since he wasn't dead
some rogue members of the gov't say he is liable to pay back the benefit
with interest

which comes out to like $800,000

so they fire his ass
and he has to live out of his van with the Falcon

^^ Thats some way to get fired. Get killed in the line of duty, presumed dead, parents get benefits, come back, have to pay the tax, get canned for "getting killed." Way to go Uncle Sam.

they gave him his powers

and clearly, you can't have someone who is a felon from the IRS enfocement as a super hero

it doesn't set a good precedent for the kids

I thought the Bruce Wayne stuff and how he became Batman was pretty great, but almost all the action scenes were just poorly shot and cut -- made for a rather dull movie.

Yea the action scenes were a little hard to follow at times but I think that went along with the whole stealth thing in not being able to see anything. Overall I thought the movie kicked ass and might be the best Batman yet though Im still a little partial to Jack To give you a clue when the movie ended everyone stood up and clapped and cheered. A definte must see at least for the story line.

that movie fucking rocked!

If I had a complaint it would echo those above -- the action sequences were shot in that contemporary post-matrix style that I find so annoying.

You know, the style where its like the director just tosses the camera into the fight and all you see is like a whirling dervish. You cant even tell who the fuck is winning.

Doesnt matter though. I give this movie a 9 out of 10
