The DS should see a nice boost in Japan. Square has showcased a 3-D remake of FFIII (NOT the esper/Terra game known now as VI). After releasing that game the company will release FFV and VI on the GBA. FFIV is due for the GBA this Christmas. Let's just hope they do a better job than they did for the PS1 versions. And how about a little Chrono Trigger while they're at it?
Nintendo is releasing a handy little USB adapter that will only DS owner to go online even if they don't have wireless. 10/5/2005 9:31:05 PM |

On Nov. 14, Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Ushers in New Era of Free Wireless Gaming
REDMOND, Wash., Oct. 5, 2005 – On Nov. 14, Nintendo® Wi-Fi Connection will begin a new era of easy, social gaming. For the first time, characters from the Nintendo universe will be playable online, as part of a unique wireless community, accessible inside or outside the home. Nintendo DS™ games like Mario Kart® DS, Animal Crossing®: Wild World and Metroid® Prime Hunters will require no additional charge for online play. Each is scheduled to launch in the coming months, along with the first third-party title using Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, Activision's Tony Hawk's American SK8Land, developed by Vicarious Visions.
From home, if the user already has a Wi-Fi network, the Nintendo DS unit will connect directly to it with minimal setup procedures. Those who have a high-speed Internet connection such as cable or DSL, but no wireless network, can use the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector, sold separately, that will plug into a computer USB port to create a wireless access point to connect to Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.
Outside of the home, players will be able to connect in a variety of ways, including at thousands of free Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection hotspots nationwide. More details about these hotspots and how to connect outside of the home will be announced shortly.
Nintendo DS is just the first Nintendo system to connect via the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. The same service will be incorporated into Nintendo's next-generation home console, code-named Nintendo Revolution, set for release in 2006.
"Nintendo has taken the online video gaming model and rewritten the definition of community," said Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of sales & marketing. "With easy setup and no added service fees, players far and wide will log in and play with one another as easily as if they were sitting in the same room."
Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection will create a welcome, inviting atmosphere where video game players of all kinds can log on wirelessly and begin playing. The service will be used in different ways for different games. In Mario Kart DS, four players at a time can race over Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Racers can pick opponents from their roster of friends, match up randomly against strangers of comparable skill levels or simply choose to race against anyone in the world. Mario Kart DS launches Nov. 14.
People who hang out in Animal Crossing: Wild World can travel to other players' towns or invite up to three other players to visit their own towns, simply by opening the town gate. The four players then can interact and play together simultaneously in one town. Players must know one another and register to their respective friend rosters before they can connect. Animal Crossing: Wild World is set to launch on Dec. 5.
Activision's Tony Hawk's American Sk8land will let players compete head-to-head in multiplayer games in a variety of modes. Players also can create custom skateboard art and graffiti tags, and share them with other players via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. The service will track global high scores and stats. Tony Hawk's American SK8Land will launch on Nov. 14.
Games in development include Metroid Prime Hunters, slated to launch in the first quarter of 2006. Players can hook up for play with registered friends, automatch with other players based on a skill-level match or play with anyone; Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection quickly finds the best match with other players online.
The worldwide leader and innovator in the creation of interactive entertainment, Nintendo Co., Ltd., of Kyoto, Japan, manufactures and markets hardware and software for its popular home and portable video game systems. Each year, hundreds of all-new titles for the best-selling Game Boy® Advance SP, Nintendo DS™ and Nintendo GameCube™ systems extend Nintendo's vast game library and continue the tradition of delivering a rich, diverse mix of quality video games for players of all ages. madden nfl 06 for psp is probably going to be recalled completely.
Sony announced that they will be offering streaming television on the PSP with DVR functionality,
2gb memory stick pro duo cards are 125 bucks, sony saying they will be releasing special high capacity storage for the psp (for the dvr above)
CF card reader adapters for the psp will be out by christmas.
I used the downgrader on mine, put it back to 1.5, and can honestly say it now is 100% better than the DS. Being able to play the bajillion old games on a portable platform is all I could ever ask for. 10/6/2005 10:05:31 PM |

yeah if you are in to old games. I've already played and/or beaten the ones that were worth my time.
Nostalgia only goes so far before attritrion kicks in........i've got the entire catalog on my xbox and honestly all I've done is just keep jumping old game to old game for the novelty factor.
it's just not the same as new, current titles to me. On that majority playing field, I think PSP is getting it's ass handed to it (for original games). But if you wanna make that (emulated old shit) a competing catagory I can see why you would. 10/7/2005 2:08:25 PM |
Noen All American 31346 Posts user info edit post |
considering there are about 10,000 games between the nintendo, snes and genesis, and as a kid I might have managed to play 100 of them, there is MUCH more fun to it than nostalgia.
I don't even play the games I did back in the day just for that reason, they are fun for about 10 minutes, until you realize you already beat the thing.
So that leaves me with THOUSANDS of quality games that I have yet to play. It's completely different than playing them on an xbox or any other large screen platform. I could care less about 3d graphics or ubergizmo shit. The NES/SNES/Genesis had good games, most of which I've never played.
Frankly I'd MUCH rather jump into a game of Joust, Dragon Warrior 2, Phantasy Star or River CIty Ransom (all games I never got to play as a kid) than Nintendogs or Ridge Racer or any of that shit.
Not to mention with SCUMM emulation I can play all the SWEET ass Sierra / LucasArts games I drooled over as a kid, but couldn't afford to buy.
By the way, it can also play gameboy and gameboy color games full speed, and even GBA emulation is there (opening up a TON more great games I never played).
Compare that to either library (or both) of the PSP and DS, and for $$ for enjoyment, the psp is by far the cheaper and longer lasting option.
That said, Ill probably still buy the DS for Advance Wars (unless theres a DS emulator ) 10/7/2005 2:27:31 PM |
FanatiK All American 4248 Posts user info edit post |
^well said.
I agree 100% with the Scumm emulator, it's the best thing so far about the PSP.
It is also true that (real) PSP games have been kind of lacking up to this point, but it's really starting to pick up.
Noen, which GBA emu do you use? Most of the ones I've tried have impossible framerates, even with tweaking. 10/7/2005 3:41:02 PM |
FanatiK All American 4248 Posts user info edit post |
You really can't compare having emulators on your xbox to having them on the PSP.
With my PSP, I can carry 5-6 different (full size) game consoles and a library of the best games for each. Whip it out, and play them anywhere! And those older games (in my book) are some of the best suited for quick, mobile gaming spurts. 10/7/2005 3:48:08 PM |
Kainen All American 3507 Posts user info edit post |
I understand completely. I just think the DS offers more sheer current title fun than the PSP does. Games like Advance Wars DS, Meteos, Kirby DS, and Castlevania DS , are some of the most fun games I've played in a long time. And I've put RPG length quality time in each of them. And theres tons more coming including free wireless gampeplay with very solid titles.
Keep in mind also that SCUMM is available on DS believe it or not, it looks great - and in addition, you can use your stylus for point/click adventure titles. It works perfectly. Same with FPS's which control WONDERFULLY with stylus as a mouse-like control.
In fact, nintendo and snes emulators are gaining ground too using flash connectivity market. Theres already versions that are up to speed.
Just a thought to remember. The DS isnt a totally void in ahem, 'additional' abilities. 10/7/2005 5:26:26 PM |
Noen All American 31346 Posts user info edit post |
^yea you also end up spending MORE than the PSP for a DS with all the extra crap needed to play anything homebrew. Plus you have three pieces of hardware sticking out of the thing.
Not to mention the DS is slower than the PSP, and the SCUMM VM on the DS is still not able to play the games back at normal speeds (from what I read).
I definitely agree about the current titles though, PSP is getting more and more behind the curve. 10/7/2005 8:41:21 PM |

Well I made my comment b/c GTA has basically been a carbon copy series since GTA 3. IMO, the plot is merely an excuse to go around on the similar missions or just randomly cause chaos.
If that is what you like, I won't stop you from enjoying it. GTA is just often critisized for being unoriginal at this point, and saying that it would usher in a new generation or originality was so anti-cliche. 10/9/2005 1:46:50 PM |

The biggest issue I have with them is that I've read hundreds of posts about how they randomly ban some people from their forum for unspecified rule infractions (many times without the user even posting one single time) and then try and charge the people $20 to gain access again. Many of these paying customers are then again baned for no reason.
Also there is the issue of them constantly trying to pass information off as their own content. Many times they will watermark pictures with their logo and specifically say that they had something to do with the development when that is not the case at all.
That and the general lack of updates and tons of ads on the page just makes that site all the much worse.
There used to be a good info site about their practices called ps2banz but it appears that they sued to get it taken down. Which is another good reason to not like them IMO.10/9/2005 3:18:19 PM |
