I'm sure this question has been asked many times before, but is there any particular reason that Fox keeps killing good shows? Is it terrible management or something? Why hasn't anybody been fired yet?

b/c from a shareholder/bottom line standpoint, those shows should be cut as they are losing money - they have low viewership, and thus, no advertising money coming in.

this ignores the fact that fox themselves are responsible for the shows having shitty ratings/no viewers. all the great shows they've canceled have both of these things in common:
-little/no advertising, doing nothing to attract new viewers
-constantly moved into different air times/nights or pre-empted by sports coverage, preventing current viewers from seeing the show and losing them over time

^I guess that's more what I was asking about. Obviously they have to kill the shows because they're not making any money off of them, but it's very hard for them to make any money for the reasons you just listed. What I want to know is why Fox keeps moving shows around, doing little-to-nothing to advertise them properly, and airing sports in their place.

Add to list of prematurely cancelled Fox Series:
Angel
The Tick

Part of the reason Fox has cancelled so many great 'cult' shows is that they're the only ones that will put these shows in production in the first place, part of which goes back to their history as the first "new" network that had a lot of surprise hits like: the Simpsons and Married With Children that other networks passed on.

What I don't understand is why they take risks greenlighting these shows and then screw them around with the aforementioned time slot musical chairs, lack of advertising...I also think part of the problem is flaws in nielsen ratings, which unfortunately are all that matter.

One day soon we'll just have tv on demand.

All that said, it looks like they've done a pretty good job of push "Drive", Tim (Joss when Joss can't be there) Minear's new show starring Nathan Fillon. Starts one week from today and should be pretty good.

Fox was just the production company on Angel; blame for its cancellation lies on the WB's shoulders.

Ah good call. It kinda feels good to heap more blame on Fox though doesn't it?

^^^ Don't forget the X-files, they managed to take that from a little cult hit on Friday nights to a major primetime hit. And then they dragged it down to crap in attempt to get a few more bucks... never mind, I hate you Fox.

I watched the last episode of the series tonight. After watching them all (and having seen Serenity first), I'm kind of surprised Mr. Universe wasn't in the original series. He seemed like a reoccurring character when I saw the movie.

He was an easy way to fit a season's worth of discovery/investigation into the relatively short movie.

well ive seen the cast get various parts all over tv and movies now, so there is no hope for this show it seems

i just saw River make an appearance on a crime show on Fox (ironically)

Malcom has done like 2 movies since Serenity

Kayleigh (sp) has moved to lifetime and has a part on a show or mini series there
