"One of the options would be doing additional games." In the 2002-03 and 2003-04 seasons, the Hurricanes had an additional 10 or more games on TV, HDTV broadcasts produced by Time Warner Cable and carried on one of WRAZ's HD channels and Time Warner's digital cable system. When Time Warner wanted to move the games to its own News 14 Carolina, FSN South exercised its contractual right to block the deal, Hurricanes general manager Jim Rutherford confirmed -- apparently concerned that games on a basic cable station represented competition. (News 14 will carry 50 of the NBA Charlotte Bobcats' games this year.) "It's not like they're doing something out of the ordinary," Rutherford said of FSN South. "They have a valid reason for it. Now we're working on some other options. One would be that they would pick up more games.""

So the HDTV deal that was blocked was a completely new one, or the WRAZ one? Last I heard, the WRAZ deal was still being worked out but was mostly likely going to happen (they used FOX Sports Net people to produce those as well). Thankfully it looks like we are at least getting the FSN games produced in HD on inHD now, I hope this trend continues, although I wish we could get a fulltime FSN-HD channel.

Offtopic somewhat, as for the mention of News14, does this mean that Bobcats games on News14 will also be available in HD? (assuming the deal mentioned originally with the Canes involved News14 and HD)..
