I was really surprised at Michael's successful cover of the whole sleeping with Jan situation.

It probably helped that one of the managers was even worse than him, though.

if it hasn't been mentioned, it seems like they're laying the groundwork for the merger of one of the branches into the scranton branch (like in the british version). i'm assuming that maybe the first manager who gave the presentation will end up being michael's boss.

i wouldn't think they'd put another inept boss at scranton (ie not the guy who didn't have a presentation).

we'll see i guess.

not the best, but I enjoyed it. Watch the alcoholic chick, they're going somewhere with that subplot.

the best episode this season was when michael 'injured' himself on the foreman grill, hands down

^^^^^ I don't see that happening. Half of the hilarity of Micheal Scott's ineptitude is the fact that he has power to begin with. Stripping him of that power doesn't seem to be such a good move.

The best quote of the season so far was the black guy saying, "This is a run-out-the-clock situation. Just like up there"

^x5 that episode was written by BJ Novak, who plays Ryan the intern. I thought it was damn funny though.

Here's a great fake fan-promo for season 3, in the spirit of the recent movie trailer mashups (brokeback to the future, shining, etc)

"extended season finale"? what does that mean? like an hour long show, or they're just stretching the season out by inserting more reruns?

Novak is a head writer, but he is also listed as a "lead character", along with Steve, Jenna, John, and Rainn. That's why the 5 of them are shown in the opening credits - everyone else is listed as "guest stars" or "regular cast" or something.

I've commented on that since episode 2 or 3, wondering when Ryan was going to get a bigger role. My guess is that in the beginning he was supposed to have a bigger part, but the opportunity hasn't come up yet and it turns out they don't really need him as a main character. He's been the "man-crush" of Michael, and played a pretty big part in "The Fire", but doesn't have even close to the exposure of pam, jim, dwight and micheal. I kind of think they realized they had more than enough material to work with in Pam/Jim and micheal and dwight, and they haven't needed a 5th main character yet.

yeah i know he is a head writer

which makes it even more lame that he is in that picture. The character sucks IMO and doesnt have anything to do with the success of the show.

he's supposed to be the normal one, the foil to everyone else I guess. I think he'll get more involved though as he starts to break down to influence.

well, Ryan is supposed to be learning (from michael) how to succeed in business, Jim definitely doesn't want to move up in the company. He hasn't done anything especially funny, but I think he has potential.

Yeah, but now there's conflicting reports about how the show is scripted. BJ, John and Jenna have all said in the past that the show is entirely scripted - nothing is improvised, all looks at the cameras, expressions, etc are written out.
But now Greg Daniels, a producer, is saying that especially Steve and Rainn do a good bit of improv that makes it into the final edit.

I really beleive Rainn does a fair amount of improvising, especially with the mannerisms that make Dwight Dwight (i.e. searching through the jelly bean jar for the black jelly beans). The way Carrell makes his facial gestures just has to be improvising. I think in the article it mentioned how you can tell when Micheal "realizes something" by the expression he makes on his face, like he's just been let in on the joke---that's on him.
