They should have like a classic album night or something. Where they just pick a really solid album and play it. Maybe have some dude give interesting tidbits and shit.

seriously, something needs to be done about the airbreaks/talk shows up there

i can rarely hear what the DJ or panelists are saying. i can understand speaking away from the mic- it's college radio and that just happens. but the majority of the time, the issue is volume, and usually it has nothing to do with being soft-spoken. are newer DJs being taught to watch their levels? or are they just setting the pots to 0 DB and just letting it fly as is?

i was listening to WXYC the other day, and heard black dice, james brown, can and some african song all in a row, then i switched to 88.1 and they were playing interpol (probably for the 800th time that day). wxyc ftw

also, the girl that was asking the "training monkey" whether or not the black lips were "more like hipsters or punks" , or whether they were genuine or trying too hard - worst thing i've ever heard on the radio.

my suggestion is that you have some hours where you play music that is pre 1960, hours where you play only old r&b/funk/garage music, whatever. there is just way too much indie rock.

I agree, play more types of music. Blues, rap, classical, bluegrass, metal, electronic, I don't even care what it is just as long as it's something I've never heard before. If you play indie rock all day, you're as bad as G105.

KNC does not have a rigid interview process for djs like xyc. KNC is a place for kids to learn somthing rather than being a place where 10 guys to sit around and gush over how they just played some rare split 7 inch Hair Police did with Otomo Yoshihide.

Weekends are great on KNC. A cappella, bluegrass, classic rock, metal on fridays, east asian stuff, the hippie hour, latin stuff on sunday evenings. If you don't like something, you can tune back in in an hour and hear something totally different.

Weekdays, however, are unlistenable sometimes.
