brief notes on the 3 shows i have seen this past week...

yo la tengo/times new roman....dont spear me but i listened to times new roman on their myspace page and wasnt expecting much. they kicked ass live but people didnt really seem to get it. yo la tengo was stellar at times and boring at others. i really just dont like the 2 really long songs off the new record that take up 20+minutes. "Today is the day" made my day though as it has been on repeat lately

cloud cult and various openers...played at a small theatre but it was packed. I am pretty sure some bitch was kicked out for spiking one of the band members (pregnant) drinks. it was kind of wierd and it happened after the first song, but the show went on. The artists on stage kicked ass, the background visuals on the theatre screen kicked ass, the setlist kicked ass. Go see this band if they ever head south

decemberists/my brightest diamond...my brightest diamond was a nice surprise and the people i was with surprisingly liked it too. I have seen the decemberists 3 times now and thats plenty. I find them overwhelmingly boring even with all the crowd interaction. I got bombed and had a great time though

^^^ you know my reaction to almost anything sounding "country"
however, "Impossible Germany" and "On and On and On" are mighty fine songs

^^ yes a 6 is perfect (Kid A, OK Computer, Turn On The Bright Lights territory)
the majority of my current list is posted on page 5 or 6
Patrick Wolf could easily turn into a 5. Glad to see these talented violinist such as Wolf, Owen Pallett, and Andrew Bird releasing some of their best work the past few years.

^ about seven of the ten tracks are exactly the same but it still has its charm

I downloaded the new Rocky Votolato, but I've not listened to it yet. Apparently he's changed his sound a bit and has opted for a full band on most of the tracks (including members of Sufjan's band and Pedro the Lion).

"Cold Days From The Birdhouse" and "Mapped By What Surrounded Them" are excellent off that album.

I'm loading up on music for the trip to DC for Arcade Fire and National. I've got Feist, Tokyo Police Club, Mice Parade, and The Good, the Bad & the Queen right now for the trek.

I recently downloaded the newly released Family Tree album by Nick Drake. From what I've heard on it so far, it is pretty amazing. His duets with family members are pretty rad.

The new Shout Out Louds is good, but it isn't up to par with it's previous full length.

The Kissaway Trail's self-titled is pretty good after a brief listen.

Right now I am really enjoying Churning Strides by Thee, Stranded Horse

New They Might Be Giants track from their album coming out next month:
http://youaintnopicasso.com/mp3/They%20Might%20Be%20Giants%20-%20Take%20Out%20The%20Trash.mp3

Doesn't really do much for me, but then again, nothing they've released since Factory Showroom has...

Bishop Allen will release The Broken String on July 24th, 2007. The album includes mostly reworked songs from the EP-every-month collection with a couple of new songs. "Flight 180" and "The Monitor" but this is exciting. Also explains why Bishop Allen didn't play any "new" songs at there show a few months ago. Although I hope "The Monitor" doesn't lose that heavy reverb guitar that was missing at the live show.

01.The Monitor
02.Rain
03.Click, Click, Click, Click
04.The Chinatown Bus
05.Flight 180
06.Like Castanets
07.Butterfly Nets
08.Shrinking Violet
09.Corazon
10.Middle Management
11.Choose Again
12.The News From Your Bed
