Matsui is really playing well lately.

The team really seems to be putting it together, but I fear it is too little too late.

Hopefully when Hughes comes back he can give us a shot in the arm the way Pettitte did in 95 down the stretch.

But we're still 8 games out in the East and 6 in the WC. We are running out of time. Cleveland and Boston need to start losing or it doesnt matter how many runs we put up.

i was behind the dugout sunday. first baseball game ever. hell they scored 10 runs in my first inning. the crowd is good but still pales in comparison to college basketball.

^^They're playing each other right now, so its a win-win situation for us as long as we keep winning our games.

^Go to a Yankees Red Sox game and then say that. Of course its a different atmosphere due to the nature of the game.

yeah, but that's just 18 games out of the 4,860 total games played during the year for all of MLB. Besides, plenty of college football and basketball games are much more crowd involved than even some of the best sox-yanks games

Big baseball games in New York City are louder than any sporting event I've ever been too... Ohio State football, NC State bball/football, hockey, any NFL game... Shea and Yankee Stadiums literally shake for big games. It's head splitting.

Who cares though. NCstate vs Savannah state is 10 times louder than a yankee game against a divisional team where they enter an inning in a tie and have their best inning of the season. Pro sports simply don't compare to college atmospheres. end of story. this is not even debatable. at all.

I know the Yankees as a team are hot right now, but I'm assuming 1/2 the reason they're really on right now is b/c Kansas City is about as pitiful as it gets?

Go to a LCS or World Series game in NYC and talk to me. I'm guessing you haven't been so you really don't have the first fucking clue.

The Yanks are hot but your right they have had series with the D-Rays and Royals, and next they get the O's. Its an easy part of the schedule that a good team should clean up on. The Sox and Indians are playing a great series with the past two games being pitchers duels.

^^ Very true. But with the way they played in the first half of the season, cleaning up in this part of the schedule was NO lock by any means.

It's a relief to see they've done something they were supposed to do up to this point.

Any thoughts on trades or rumors before the deadline?

And any that would affect post season A-rod treatment?

Do i really need to if an akron ncstate football game and a ncstate savanah state bball game are 10 times louder than a drays game. It was not a complete blowout the whole game either. it was 3-3 in the 4th.

I know a world series or redsox game is going to be much louder but if the regular season games aren't that loud theres no way they can compete with something like duke unc @ cameron or ohio state michigan in the shoe. florida lsu. auburn alabama.

That says it all if you're already saying go to a championship game to see how loud it is. If it was really going to be considered a top atmosphere the fans would be loud during most games and not just the championship.

^^ it's a bit different when good teams get 90 home games in one year compared to the 5 you get in NCAAF.

You are clueless so we'll just end it here...

[Edited on July 26, 2007 at 5:31 PM. Reason : you're trying to base other events off of 1 game against the worst team in baseball history]

5 games out of the wild card....still plenty of time....but our only shot is the wild card. I hate to admit it, but with Schil coming back to the Bosox they are going to be tough to beat in the playoffs. In a short series good pitching usually wins.....and I hate to admit it, but the bosox have the pitching.... :-(

Tough year to be a Yankees fan.....

Hughes comes back this weekend to pitch against the Royals.

Let's hope he's as good as we've heard he is. I mean, really, he can ONLY be an improvement over Kei Igawa.

They are doing better than I thought they would. I hope they catch the Red sox's so their streak of winning the division championship would continue.

Oh I know of him. But I think Torre is counting on him as a set-up man for Rivera, whereas a primary concern is still starting pitching (Hughes). But Chamberlain throws somewhere around 98, doesn't he? THat'll be nice as long as he's a little more consistent than Farnsworth.

Regardless, I gotta say it's nice to feel excited about young pitching. That hasn't happened in quite a long time for us.

chamberlain threw 16 fastballs the other day, all of which were +98 and a few over 100... at least that's what i read. i think his avg is in the 95-99 range.

thats one thing i dont get about baseball analysts...fans i understand

obviously redsox fans are going to be talking shit to yankees fans since they are ahead in the division...and its natural for fans to talk shit, especially when their record can back it up...but the whole premise of saying a particular divison is locked up, etc is baffling in baseball

in the nfl for example if the colts are 4-0 in their division and the other three teams are 2-2 and you want to say the colts have the division locked up then fine...they probably do...there are only a few games left to catch them in

but you have baseball tonight people and other sports media figures saying a division is wrapped up when they are up 10 games and there are damn 100 games left in the season...and yeah i know there are less than 100 games left but espn people were saying this a month ago...crazy

A-Rod with his 500th. Three-run homer in the first. Sweet.

Hughes with four hits, two runs and five Ks through four innings. Yanks up 6-2 in the bottom of the fourth.

Hughes looked great for four innings, then he ran out of gas. Probably a product of not having pitched in a major league game in 3 months. He's gonna be great

if the yanks have 100 games left so does everyone else. the ups and downs with be similar for every team. its just that theyre behind( by alot) now and the averages wont work out...not for the division and probably not for the wild card. 16 runs games against KC dont mean alot when your pitching staff is weak/old and will at some point have to play a real team.

You're really trying to say that 50 games isn't enough to come back from the WHOPPING game-and-a-half deficit in the wild card standings?

Really?

Impossible?

They are going to make the playoffs as the wildcard. Detroit is going in to a freefall like last year at this time, Seattle doesn't have near the talent the Yankees do and Minnesota isn't going to be able to have enough offense to make up the ground they need to...

Sucks, but it's what is going to happen. They better hope that they don't have to play the Angels in the first round but they likely will..

Here's the thing, we play the Jays and then the Indians in 6 games. Toronto will be a good test to see if the Yanks will make the playoffs, b/c well if there's a reason the playoffs should be expanded its for teams like Toronto.

And Cleveland is all about staying in the hunt for the Wild Card. I say that, knowing full well neither D-town or Cleveland apparently want the AL Central title at this time.

The Yankees can really do a lot of damage this week in the AL and help themselves get a playoff spot and maybe, just batshit crazy maybe, catch the fucking Red Sox.

Oh and fuck that Barry Bonds shit on A-rod's 500th day. Jerk.

I want detroit to miss the playoffs. I'm rooting for Cleveland to win the central, but the Yankees still need to take at least 2 out of 3 from them to keep rolling.

I think the Yanks take 2 out of 3 in toronto, possibly dropping the 3rd game when Halliday faces Wang.
