I could not wait until this movie was ended about halfway through. The second half was just one big CGI jerkfest with hardly any relevant dialog and the a terrible set of clues that took Jones two seconds to figure out. There weren't any type of rules among the movie either involving the russians and Jones...did they want to kill him? did they want to use him? everyone knew immediately what team Mac was on when he kept switching sides which leads to Irina being the a terrible overall villain whose best scenes involved her with ants. The interactions between Jones and Marion were ridiculous and held no grounds in any type of believable human relationship. And how come it took so long for Jones and the whole crew to figure out these things skulls were from aliens (the reveal of holding the skull up against the murals on the wall was unneeded because we knew the entire time that this was an alien skull). I could go on but what's the point.

I totally agree with all of that.

I think I built it up to be amazing, which is what I'm sure a bunch of Indiana Jones fans did. It was a disappointment. I mean I enjoyed it for the most part...but I left a little confused. The whole movie it was a build up and then at the end I was like "is that it?"

But the fridge thing...I was like you gotta be fucking kidding me.

Well that's about the only thing that was consistent with the other Indy movies, they didn't get squat at the end of any of those either.

CGI prairie dogs
Shia turning into Tarzan
monkeys fighting the Russians
Aliens

goddam that shit was a let-down. And the big chase scene was ridiculous in all the wrong ways. I was half expecting some pod racers to pop up and see Jar Jar Binks emerge out of the jungle for comic relief. And don't even get me started on the plot. The original idea George Lucas had for this film was to call it Indiana Jones and the Flying Saucer Men from Mars, and it took Spielberg and Ford over a decade to even get him to revise the script as much as he did.

Lucas is a faggy nerd who has ruined his legacy over the past decade. He should be stripped of his film-producing rights before he does further damage.

It was ridiculously over the top, but I was actually entertained. The chase scene, monkeys, tarzan, Jones Jr being able to use his convenient fencing training and all that was pretty stupid, but w/e.

I thought using the Nazca lines and the mythology there was pretty neat, I actually did a big report on that stuff when I was younger.

that was your first problem.

why do all of the fanboys need to "build up" every single major movie that comes out? just go see the damn thing, you dont need to camp out

I figured it would be absolutely horrible like Spider Man 3 was with reading all of these reviews, but still found it entertaining. It definitely was a different look on the Jones story than the other three.

Not evil I believe, I thought it was rather like the angel that slew Sennacherib's entire army. Or the "destroyer" that slew all the Egyptian firstborn in Exodus. Maybe the idea is that not all angels or spirits in the heavenly host look like the common stereotype of what angels should look like. Maybe those sent to destroy strike fear in those they kill.

I also thought that Indy's advice to Marion to shut her eyes was reminiscent of the story of Lot's wife in Genesis, who was not to turn around and witness the destruction that was happening to Sodom and Gomorrah. She looked and was destroyed.

so, when Lucas was pitching "It's Indiana Jones with ALIENS!, aliens are hip right?" someone had to have thought "damn that's a dumb idea" and didn't say anything...

and then a lot of people didn't say anything

however, other than that being a dumb idea, i enjoyed the movie. it's not raiders, and it's not crusade, but i'd put it slightly above temple

If this movie didn't have aliens in it then I would just say it was good, but not as good as the others. Since it had aliens in it, I think it was freaking retarded! WTF man. George Lucas you son of a bitch.

BTW I don't know why so many of you peple hate on Temple of Doom. Its a great movie.

Did anyone else get tired of him punching the guy IN THE CIRCLE OF DEATH ANTS?!
Also the monkeys and prairie dogs were retarded. I couldnt understand half of the "clues" the old dude was saying before they were already figuring it out. I would have rather they ended it sitting on top of that mountain with some corny joke and them all laughing vs the shitty wedding and the "hey now guy, that hat's still mine for now!" bullshit at the end.
The complete randomness of the myan natives that just popped in and out of existence....the endless tank/boat/vehicle chase scene, were they driving in circles or what? Didn't the brush clearing vehicle bite the dust a few miles back?

Give me temple of doom any day. GALLEY-MAAAAHHHH!!!!!

lol movies where they find the ark of the covenant that melts a whole army of nazis, a dude pulls a guy's heart clean out of his chest (and the dude is still alive), an immortal knight of the templar guarding the holy friggin grail...

and there's audience outrage on some aliens?

the vine swinging is the only thing that really got my goat...mostly because of the retarded cgi...the rest i just loled at

i just went in there...pretended i was an 8-year-old again...and enjoyed myself

^ This argument I can go with.

However, as an adult, Raiders has all the things that any movie (not just action) should have, especially character development and MOTIVATION. This one simply doesn't.

I felt it was pretty contrived at the start, it felt really stilted, but as it went on I think it got better.

It wasn't great, it wasn't bad. If I were a kid I'm sure I would've loved it.

raiders is considered the best of all of them, followed by last crusade and then temple o doom / crystal skull

they could have made it better, and the cgi was over done in places.

isn't it clear that they just made another sequel to a series that people absolutely loved, just so they could make more money?
and it worked...
they probably didn't really care about the plot or the motivation or the stuff in it, b/c they knew it would make money regardless.

same thing they did with rocky and rambo, i could go on and on...

the catch is, you have to wait a while before you release the new movie.. if you do it way too soon (batman forever, batman and robin) they start to suck

I really enjoyed it.

The whole franchise is banking on your ability to suspend disbelief. The fact that it worked when you were a kid and doesn't now is your fault for getting old, not the director's fault for wanting aliens.

But what about the people who weren't bothered by the aliens? I was bothered by the fact that they brought back super badass Marion Ravenwood and didn't do a goddamn thing with her emotionally.

The real problem is that this could've been a fantastic movie about adventure and the end of the middle third of life in said adventure and the detereoration of a relationship that had deteriorated twenty-five years previous and all sorts of other wonderful things...and it wasn't any of that.

saw it.

some parts felt like classic indiana jones (motorcycle chase, car chases, crazy foreign villain, etc).

some parts (mentioned here: aliens, shai swinging with monkeys, killer ants) felt like they were trying to pull in fantasy elements from other movies to gain some sort of coolness value.

in the end, enjoyed the movie. definitely suspended disbelief. definitely acknowledged some uber-cheese that i don't associate with the other movies.
