They're just trying to sell their show and build sentiment for their cause.

Several ways. Why do they go out in the streets to picket with signs when they could just as easily carry out the strike by simply not writing? Why are they trying to get camera time?

They want to get the viewers behind their cause because they know that the viewers can apply pressure to the networks as well. After all, without the viewers the networks are nothing. The networks are losing potential advertising dollars and saying things like "the very next show after we went on strike was going to be the best show ever" only makes the die hard fans clamor that much more for a resolution to the problem.

I wouldn't be surprised to find out that several people have already written into the networks voicing their support for the writers.

I think the reason this week's "out of office" experience was so good was because it didn't necessarily have to be out of the office. It was mostly the same characters, and they just sat around a table and talked the whole time, kind of like they do inside the office. There was nothing outrageous about them sitting around and talking, and that is where The Office is at its best.

that's what makes it so funny...such a random small event in the 1st season triggered his ridiculous hatred for toby, and michael goes and blows it way out of proportion.....comedic gold

In my opinion at least, that scene was one of the funniest they've ever done (I'm biased since the Michael/Toby relationship is my favorite part of the show) but they couldn't have executed that scene better....you really thought Toby was gonna break through to him, and then Michael keeps the same sullen face and reminds me why I watch the show every week

ok well I realized it's not one event, but Toby always stomps on all his "wonderful" ideas...i.e. shooting down michael's idea for alcohol at a party

Michael would get (and still does get) all excited about random ideas he comes up with, then Toby steps in and speaks up against it

The revelation of his hatred in the first episode of the 2nd season "Toby Flenderson is everything that is wrong with the paper industry" is one of my favorite parts of all time (if I missed him talking shit about Toby prior to that, it wasn't as funny)

yea the director's guild getting a deal in a week with no strike while the writers guild has already taken months and used a strike may show that the directors guild has smarter negotiators but i dont think it should lead you to believe that the writers guild will be wrapped up anytime soon. the writers guild decided to play hardball and the networks realized that they can live for awhile without them, so they have the upper hand.
