I guess the whole basis for my irritation with this game is twofold: the special/super moves just don't seem as reliable as they have in previous games, and I really despise the whole emphasis on crossovers. These problems are compounded when playing Guile since he doesn't really have many options to defend against the crossover, his wakeup moves are almost nonexistent, and he has few crossover options of his own. I hope that some of the changes in SSFIV will make Guile more competitive, but I didn't really see anything in this video which would lead me to believe that the things which I hate most are being improved. Whereas Rufus needs an opening or two to string together some combo for big damage, Guile has to play straight good fundamentals throughout the whole round. 4/26/2010 11:49:58 AM |

I'm still usin' my good ol' MAS Systems stick which I've had ever since the Dreamcast days. Looks like their site is long gone, but the sticks they used to build are top-notch. It looks like the one on this site: http://www.estarland.com/index.asp?action=redir&page=Playstation2&category=Accessory&product=18432&q= I am running it through my XIM2 adapter which allows me to use PC devices as 360 controllers.
Looks like X-Arcade is finally producing an adapter for the 360. I may need to consider this one for my X-Arcade stick as well. If I was to buy a new joystick, I'd say to try to get an X-Arcade stick since you can use different adapters with it for different systems. 4/26/2010 2:18:54 PM |

I suck at using a stick. Pads FTW. They should just repeatedly release the Saturn pad for every system with a Street Fighter game.
^^FYI, they did away with Live Support for Xbox 1 games.

Played online last night for the first time. Also played with Ibuki the whole time for the first time.
I think I'm in love with her. She's awesome and sooooo fun to play with. (minus her annoying story)
Endless battle is so stressful. I forgot how it feels to watch someone totally badass play before you, knowing you're next to get your ass kicked.
I played a lot of really fun ranked matches last night. Some were super close and everyone sent really friendly messages.
I gave Hakan a chance in arcade mode but it took me forever to get past some characters. Maybe I'll give him a chance online where no one really knows how to handle him quite yet. 4/30/2010 11:33:18 AM |

Ibuki has some amazing combos, but it appears that she doesn't take hits well.
I have yet to come across anyone using Zangief or Hakan, and I've played T. Hawk only once. I beat the crap out of the guy until he landed his ultra move on me in THREE separate rounds to pull out a win each time.
Seems to be a very small population of characters chosen thus far. Guy is looking to be pretty powerful what with that super cheesy unblockable quickstrike. I have seen people abuse the hell out of it. 4/30/2010 2:03:28 PM |

I ran into a lot of Adons last night, but didn't see any today oddly enough. I've gotten the hang of Dudley, although I make way too many stupid mistakes.
Makoto seems to be crap though . Can't really pressure people with her like you could in 3S.

This game is SOOOOOOO much better than vanilla SF4, good god.
I'm a huge fan of Cody so far (and he's also looking to be one of the best)... and I'm incredibly happy to see that they've buffed El Fuerte to the point that he is actually usable. Hell, better than that, he's actually a strong character now. Oh, and his new ultra is the shit.
If it weren't so late I'd go online and start confusing some shoto scrubs with Fuerte... jumping off the walls and shit, face-grabbing their fireballs.
If you want to find out about character variety, just look through the "New Replays" list and see what others are playing. There's still plenty of Kens, but overall not too many shotos, and good variety... newer characters are seeing a ton of use right now.

So far I'm doing 76% wins with only Guile. He's definitely better, but every so often I still see something which just defies belief. Fought against someone using Dudley a few days ago and he did his super move, which I blocked. During the end of the animation, when Dudley was still "in extension," I used the Sonic Hurricane. Without a single frame of transition, the guy then proceeded to do the Corkscrew Punch back at me and hit me through the Sonic Hurricane even though he was *completely* vulnerable when I started my attack. Had you seen it happen, you would not have ever believed it.
I do not understand how one of Ibuki's ultra moves (not the one with the kunai daggers) works. It looks like a throw/grab move, but I got hit with it twice while literally laying completely flat on the ground. She walked right over to me and executed the move, and I instantly went from flat on my back to being in the grab. WTF.
I also still believe that whoever at Capcom has become so fascinated with allowing the abuse of crossup attacks should be dragged out into the street and shot. 5/4/2010 11:26:44 AM |
tromboner950 All American 9667 Posts user info edit post |
^Corkscrew cross has a startup of like... 3 or 4 frames. It is incredibly fast. And it cutscenes almost immediately, which is why Hurricane didn't hit him. He could do that to a lot of different supers/ultras, not just guile's. And Dudley's got a lot of safe moves; you've got to be careful how you try to punish him because a blocked/whiffed move could just be baiting you into getting hit by Corkscrew Cross.
Besides, that's not even that bad, in terms of ultras getting stuffed. Dhalsim can be grabbed (as in LP+LK) out of his Ultra 1 fireball.
As for the Ibuki thing... that is odd. Nothing should be able to hit someone who is in knockdown on the ground. Either the move is incredibly broken or you're getting some online lag like crazy.

Shit. Looks like Ibuki has a stunlock combo. I just lost 2 rounds after effectively taking only 1 hit to start the combo, and I couldn't do a damn thing to stop it since I got stunned twice on the way to KO. I don't know how easy/repeatable this is to pull off, but this person had it completely down. 5/6/2010 6:52:36 PM |

Honestly I wish that Capcom would just patch out the balance issues in their fighters instead of feeling the need to cash in on a whole "new" version of the game... though they have claimed that the buck stops with SSF4 (for this generation, anyway), so maybe they're catching on to the idea of patching. That, or they're just never going to change anything.

It was the first one almost exactly, only with no crossup at the end to set up the stun. I think what makes it possible is the REALLY late midair hit on recovery after the high launching kick. The good news is that Ibuki can't take a hit worth a damn, and most of the people who know how to do this combo are one trick ponies, so you have to fight fairly aggressively. 5/9/2010 11:05:06 AM |

After all this time, I still have yet to see a single person using Hakan or El Fuerte. I can count the number of times on one hand I've seen someone using Adon, Viper, Dhalsim, Makoto, and Rufus (thank God - I detest that fat fuck). I must have played at least 6 different T. I'm surprised by how few Cody players I've seen, too.... the guy is a fairly cool character, and he's powerful, but relatively few people seem to play him compared to characters like Ibuki, T. Hawk, and the shotos.

Repeated crossups aren't really anything special unless you're having to play online. It's much easier to block properly in a local versus game (which is how they structured the gameplay testing/balancing).
...that said, they are often incredibly difficult/nearly impossible to successfully block or punish online. 6/2/2010 5:35:45 AM |

Well specials are alright (even though I can't seem to pull off a dragon punch reliably from the 2P side), but supers/ultras are tougher. The motions for those were more lenient in SF3. 9/12/2010 12:29:57 AM |

http://shoryuken.com/content/ssf4-ae-dlc-dated-priced-pc-version-coming-also-4196/
Quote : | "Destructoid dropped the news just moments ago! Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition will be available as DLC to all owners of SSF4 on June 7 for $14.99. A full retail disc for Arcade Edition will also be made available around June 24th. Finally, a PC version of the game is also on its way. The team just started work on it, so expect it later this year.
Here is a bit more from Detructoid:
"The meat of the update are the four new characters: Evil Ryu, Oni, Yin, and Yang. Each bring their own unique fighting styles and move sets to the fight, along with fully animated intro and ending videos. If you'd rather rely on your old favorites, Capcom is promising entirely new alternate costumes, as well. The balance of the roster has also been tweaked across the board, putting it in line with some of the known balancing changes in the latest arcade iteration of the fighter.
Capcom isn't settling with simply dumping new characters and costumes into the game, though, and has also focused on building up the online portion of the game, in particular in the area of replays. The "Elite Channel" will only feature replays from the top tier players, those who've accumulated 3000 PP or more; no more getting stuck watching scrubs weakly fighting one another. If you want to get even more specific, you'll be able to search for and follow specific Gamertags and online IDS, as well. The sharing functionality of the replay system is also being tweaked, making it even easier to share multiple files with your friends and rivals.
The "Endless Battle" online mode has now been expanded for Arcade Edition. Called "Enhanced Endless Battle," this mode will allow you to set even more specific conditions for matchmaking, allowing online fighters to fine-tune the battle experience. Players will also be able to get more information about their opponent while in a match, too; the HUD will now not only display the opponents online ID, but also their PP and their BP.
Capcom is also addressing concerns over splintering the Street Fighter IV community with a new, paid update. An update will be coming to the current Super Street Fighter IV that will allow those players to play matchmaking games with those playing Arcade Edition. While players who don't upgrade to Arcade Edition obviously won't have the new online features and new characters, they'll still be able to play online without any trouble even if they decide not to update. "" |
Don't know if I'll be getting this. SSFIV seems kind of boring after MvC3. The new replay features are nice though.4/12/2011 1:27:34 PM |
