yeah, that's actually my only gripe that I can come up with. I don't know if there were technical limitations, but capping it at 3000 seemed for one, arbitrary, and two, unnecessary since it was the night before, and are 200 more people really going to change it that much?

I thought the event went really well considering how big it exploded so quickly. I mean, if you're really expecting anything more than running two miles, eating doughnuts, and puking / running two more miles, I'm not sure what you showed up for.

That being said, I was disappointed with the t-shirts. I mean, I want something that will prompt someone to ask me, "WTF is the KKC?" These are just, "why do you have doughnuts near your nads man?"

All in all though, I enjoyed it.

Think the North Carolina Weekend segment will eventually be posted here as a video Podcast:

Make sure to link to it on the media page of KKC Site.

I thought the race went really smoothly. I don't know if they were volunteers or random supporters, but I really appreciated all the people along the way cheering on the challengers. It helped me persevere and not hurl doughnut frags everywhere.

My mile times weren't as good as I was hoping for, especially on the way back. I definitely got passed by Elvis on the final mile. I ate the doughnuts in about 6 minutes, which helped my overall time alot.

My only suggestion is to get more people working the water tables. I went to a table very close to the entrance, and after waiting to get water, I was told that I needed to continue running to the end to get my doughnuts. That was kind of confusing and I spilled half the water on the way. Later, I couldn't find the water stand that was supposed to be in front of the store, so I ran around to the original table again. It was probably right in front of my nose; the sugar rush
was impairing my visuals.

I think we all (particularly bellrabbit) got Rosie Ruiz'd by some Tarhole impostor.

Great point on the water. One of our organizers scored something like 400 gallons from Sam's Club (thanks!) so at least this year we didn't run out of water like we did last year. But I think with the higher density of people at the store, it was harder to spot the water tables.

Maybe next year we'll get some elevated signs prominently showing where water and donuts are. How do you guys feel about that?

From what I've heard, it seems like I was completely wrong about overcrowding at the store. I was absolutely convinced it was going to be a crushing mass, with people needing to overflow to surrounding lots. But it looks like it was more packed than last time, but wasn't SO bad. What are you thoughts? Any runners from both last year and this year who can comment? Every year we learn more things.

I like the sign idea, or maybe have people congregate along the road and keep the parking lot open. It took me a long time just to find the water and a way out. Either way, it was still a lot of fun.

Yeah, my only true complaint was on the water situation. It took our team a couple minutes to orient ourselves after wandering around the KK building wanting to get hydrated after downing donuts.

Other than that, great job!

although I didnt run in it and just from reading bellrabbits posts, you should have different colored racing numbers for the casual and competitive runners. Like have the white number cards for the casual and maybe red ones for the competitive.

That way you wont get confused (like bellrabbit did) and it will be pretty clear cut to tell who is really trying and who is just fucking around.

AC Slater, that's actually a neat idea! Hadn't thought of that before...didn't occur to me the variety of styles we could get race numbers in. We save money though by using donated race numbers, and often can't control how they look. But it's absolutely worth exploring. Thanks!

hey bellrabbit, the n&o blog mentions you, you might want to set the record straight

Quote :
"Bib No. 1874 (I've got a call in to identify him) set a blistering pace from the start, reaching the Krispy Kreme a good 400 yards in front of his next competitor. He ran at about a 12-mile-per-hour pace (according to my bike computer; I rode alongside him) and pulled into the Krispy Kreme in 11 minutes, 51 seconds. Alas, he did not appear to be among the top 10 finishers, leaving me to think that on the run back he ... DQ'd."

Pretty sure Bellrabit did it much faster last year.....even though the route was supposedly a bit longer this year.

Hell, I did it in like 36 minutes last year.
