The only time I was annoyed or felt put off by this season's unrealism was after they did blatant, obvious crimes... like kidnapping the Juarez family and destroying their house or kidnapping the newspaper writer and his neighbor and his neighbor's cat.

Blowing up that random guy's house in Gas Crisis didn't feel that way, though... partly because it wasn't quite as obvious that the gang had done it, and partly because I was in tears laughing by the time that point was reached.

^^ I totally get what your saying. i just have to stay with something until it's finished, i hate giving up hope that things will get better... i used to religious read JANE magazine and everyone used to say "oh they've sold out" and then with The O.C. (complete and polar opposite of IASIP i know) I was the same way... damn, I'm even like that with my boyfriend. he jumped the shark almost 2 years ago and I still think a miracle will happen. It's the little glimmers that keep me watching, every once in a while you'll see something that reminds you of how it used to be. i still think this show has at least a couple more seasons left in it.

on a side note... did anyone ever watch that testees that came on afterwards? was that any good?

I'm not saying I didn't enjoy the episodes. I loved both. But when each one had wound down at the end it just bugged me a bit. Mostly I was just trying to relate my own not-very-related opinion with the stuff aimorris posted on page 7.

I liked how the gang was like "whoa whoa whoa calm down" when Charlie threatened giving away their roles in the musical

you did notice they didn't get away with these, right? The neighbor got Dennis' flatscreen and the Juarez family got Dee's house

You sound like someone using "Jurrasic Park III" as your credibility for looking down on people who only recently discovered william h macy

honestly, repeated jokes have been a part of the series since we learned charlie was illiterate and the theme reached a high point when dennis started "popping off that shirt"

in short - you're larry bird

i guess let me rephrase then

its not that they reused it, as simply stand alone eps with no plot connection would be absurd

but that, in my opinion, the introduction of green man into the gang gets invincible ep was SO GREAT, so momentous, that simply sneaking it in that charlie trys to wear it under his clothes to be green man was just, forced in my opinion...i mean if you'll remember, charlie doesn't like being green man, and only became him when he was tripping balls on acid, so i found it a little forced that he would be so wanting to do so the second time around....i felt like in the writing meetings they felt that green man "caught on" with the fanbase or attracted new viewers to the show, so they just tossed the gag back in, rather than really waiting for an excellent opportunity to reintroduce with the same magnitude...then again, maybe there can't be another first time for green man, and that's what we're left with

i think it was a clever use

think about what they were doing - looking for a character that would "catch on" and go viral

dee was trying all of these flairs and characters that were intentionally made unfunny, while charlie was just wearing a suit of green lycra and getting more laughs than sweet dee could ever hope to get

in some ways, its a meta-commentary on how concept-sitcoms that we see today try so hard to change the game and wind up lasting only 5 episodes while always sunny just goes for the easiest style possible (its just 5 people living their lives) and is better than any other sitcom working today

Mac: Here's the song.
Dennis: What the hell is this, a page from a coloring book?
Mac: It's a song that Charlie wrote. It's called "Night Man." Skip all the raping parts and get on stage.

"Charlie:

Night Man, sneaky and mean
Spider inside my dreams, I think I love you
You make me want to cry, you make me want to die
I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you Night Man
Every night you come into my room and pin me down with your strong arms
And pin me down and I try to fight you
You come inside me and fill me up and I become the Night Man

It's just two men sharing the night
It might seem wrong, but it's just right
It's just two men sharing each other
It's just two men like lovin' brothers
One on top, and one on bottom
One inside, and one is out
One is screaming he's so happy and the other's screaming a passionate shout
It's the Night Man
The feeling so wrong and right man, the feeling so wrong and right man
I can't fight you man when you come inside me and pin me down with your strong hands and I become the Night... the passionate, passionate Night Man

They took you Night Man and you don't belong to them. They left me in a world of darkness without your sexy hands. And I miss you, Night Man, so bad."

Mac: I mean the first half of that song was kind of cool, but what's with the second half?
Charlie: It's about the Night Man, like you know, like filling me up and I become him -- I become the spirit of the Night Man.
Mac: But it sounds like a song where a man breaks into your house and rapes you.

So I guess I might as well tell the story about how Sweet Dee broke her coccyx...

Before they got married and moved to Sherman Oaks, Rob and Kaitlin (Mac and Sweet Dee) used to live directly across the street from me here in Marina Del Rey. They are very good friends with my roommate, and correspondingly I got a chance to know them pretty well. Of course they are hilarious in real life, and really cool as well. Its a shame they moved away.

So it was the 4th of July 2008, and I'm getting drunk as hell up on the roof of my place. I was drinking this horrible combination of Jack Daniels and Playboy energy drink. The next door neighbor to Kaitlin and Rob was having a party, so my buddy and I decide to walk over. It's about 10 PM, and just about everybody had been drinking all day. Well I get down to the street, and see my roommate, a former collegiate offensive lineman, talking to Rob and Kaitlin as they are walking out of their place. Rob, and Kaitlin especially, are fuckin BLITZED. Drunk as a skunk. Hammered. So Kaitlin comes running at my roommate and jumps into his arms. My roommate, playing along, picks her up sideways and holds her above his head like he is powerlifting her. I am about 2 feet away at this point, and I couldn't help but think that they could probably use a spotter. As that thought slowly propogates through my alcohol-addled mind, suddenly Kaitlin moves, and my roommate loses his grip, dropping her backwards from about 8 feet up in the air. She lands on her side with a thud, and everybody is like, "OH SHIT!". She's got a shocked look on her face, and Rob isn't sure what to do. My buddy and I don't know how to help, so we end up just going into the party after standing there a while. We have a few beers (the party sucked), and head out. Of course Kaitlin is still there, with my roommate and Rob trying to get her off the ground. She looks like she's in shock, probably too drunk to feel the pain. They eventually carry her back to her place. My roommate is pretty shaken up, and goes straight to bed.

The next time I saw her she was in a wheelchair, and my roommate tells me that she broke her coccyx. Luckily, they had just finished filming season 4, so it didn't fuck up anything.

Here's a youtube video of Rob talking about the incident (among other things) at Comic Con:

I know everyone loves watching videos on hulu for shows that haven't been released on DVD yet, but I don't blame these people for taking their shows off of it. If I made a brilliant show that people loved, I'd want to make sure that DVD sales are decent. This is my favorite show so I buy all the dvds. And I hope everyone that likes the show does the same because that just gives them more of a chance to keep the show alive.

Rob says it best during the bonus features from the first season when he says something like, "kids, introduce all your friends to IASIP and when they love it, make them actually buy the dvd... so I can get rich"

Yeah but dvds involve physically opening the case up and putting them into a physical slot. It all seems very cave-manish. I just click "it's always sunny in Philadelphia" and pick the episode i want on my HTPC. Hulu is also too much work.

^&^^

I watched every episode of Arrested Development on Hulu, I'd never seen any of it before.

I now own all 3 seasons on dvd, but I do see the convenience of clicking a URL and picking a random episode to watch over opening a case and putting a disc in my xbox.

So both opinions are valid.

i don't think this has anything to do with dvd revenue

its not like they're pulling the series offline

they just want to keep them in the FOX stable

which is stupid, since hulu is 50% fox's property, right?

i mean, Sunny was almost always within the top 3 of the most popular shows on hulu (save for specific days of the week when people are catching up on random show A or random show B) so you have to think people are getting exposed to it and then picking up the dvds at a greater rate than they will just being on the fox site

plus, doesn't every hulu page have a "buy this episode on dvd now!" link?

i'm basically going to get rid of the hulu bookmark on my bookmark toolbar now... this is bad for everyone involved, sunny - who is going to get less exposure on a proprietary website, hulu who botched the exit strategy and will lose a major fan favorite, and fox, who will come out the bad guy on this and who will lose exposure for their property and one of their creative teams

Quote :
"Customer trust is hard won, easily lost.

On January 9, we removed nearly 3 seasons of full episodes of ''It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.'' We did this at the request of the content owner. Despite Hulu's opinion and position on such content removals (which we share liberally with all of our content partners), these things do happen and will continue to happen on the Hulu service with regards to some television series. As power users of Hulu have seen, we've added a large amount of content to the library each month, and every once in a while we are required to remove some content as well.

This note, however, is not about the fact that episodes of ''It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia'' were taken down. Rather, this note is to communicate to our users that we screwed up royally with regards to _how_ we handled this specific content removal and to apologize for our lack of strong execution. We gave effectively no notice to our users that these ''Sunny'' episodes would be coming off the service. We handled this in precisely the opposite way that we should have. We believe that our users deserve the decency of a reasonable warning before content is taken down from the Hulu service. Please accept our apologies.

Given the very reasonable user feedback that we have received on this topic (we read every twitter, email and post), we have just re-posted all of the episodes that we had previously removed. I'd like to point out to our users that the content owner in this case - FX Networks - was very quick to say yes to our request to give users reasonable advance notice here, despite the fact that it was the Hulu team that dropped the ball. We have re-posted all of the episodes in the interest of giving people advance notice before the episodes will be taken down two weeks from today. The episodes will be taken down on January 25, 2009. Unfortunately we do not have the permission to keep the specific episodes up on Hulu beyond that. We hope that the additional two weeks of availability will help to address some of the frustration that was felt over the past few days.

The team at Hulu is doing our best to make lemonade out of lemons on this one, but it's not easy given how poorly we executed here. Please know that we will do our best to learn from this mistake such that the Hulu user experience benefits in other ways down the road.

Sincerely,

Jason Kilar, CEO, Hulu"
