little off topic but playing mario cart at my nephews house has me wanting to purchase a wii. I have another nephew who bought a 360*which i already own one* and he wants to sell his wii. I dont know much about the wii so I have no idea what a good selling price is. He's sellin the Wii, 2 remotes, 2 nunjucks, and like 5 games. The games aren't that good. I think theres mario party, and a few driving games up in there. how much you think I should offer for that?? Im gonna check ebay and craigs list next I suppose to get a general idea.

I got this and a wii for my birthday and played a few games last night. I broke even and actually gained some points in multiplayer. Pretty classy for a first try ever and not knowing the levels I must say

I wasnt very impressed with this game for the first month I had it....
then, I started playing the multiplayer some more with all of the unlocked karts & bikes.... wow....
The mutiplayer and the kart/bike selection really make take the playability to another level.

What does everyone prefer? KART or BIKE

I keep leaning towards the phantom BIKE with a large character. My second is the Wario BIKE.

I only use karts every now and then when I want to play something different online. When I first started playing online I would use funky/flame runner all the time. Once I got better I started using just random characters with a few different karts or bikes, just trying to get better.

I've been using the Magicruiser for a while. Its good, but I feel that it'll only get you so far. There's got to be a kart (or several) that are better than bikes. I mean why the fuck would they come out with a new version of Mariokart and have bikes as the better performers, thats messed up.

I personally like using carts as a small character and bikes as medium/heavy. I love the fish cart. I can't remember what its called but its great.

well i rarely use the nunchuck/wiimote but when my friends are over i take that control because I have had the most experience on it.

It reminds me of when my mom would play mario on the nintendo....when she wanted mario to jump to the right, she would jump and jerk the control to the right...

Any of you guys been randomly disconnected from the WFC? Like in the middle of the race your screen goes blank and then it says you were disconnected. Its fucking bullshit that they deduct 300 points from you for that.

^There isn't really any advice I can give you. Just keep practicing. I'm around 8800 right now and I use Little Bowser and the Speedster.

i got up to 8200 once, but im back down to around 7500 now.. this is with funky kong/flame runner.. only advice i have is to be selective with the groups you play in. if you are finishing 1st or 2nd consistently, keep playing... if you keep losing, log out and join another race. it also helped me to take a break from online play and work on getting stars (i stopped after getting 2 stars, 3 seems slightly impossible). that really helped me figure out how to get the best possible times on each map

thats good advice. I thought about the "group change" strategy, but I hate logging on and off of the WFC over and over again....

8800 is beast.... I can only imagine how long it took to get that good...

Yeah totally get into a group thats at least 8-10 other ppl with nobody rated over 7000. I also try to stay away from any groups with ppl from Japan. They always seem to be really freaking good. Thats the easy way to build points, but its slow going. Once you're in the high 7000s you only win 20-30 pts per race.

I really hate this game. The wheel is one giant piece of shit. I cant even begin to describe how bad I suck at rainbow road using the wheel. I always just use the classic controller.

^Yeah. I totally blew rainbow road. Until I realized I needed to stop drifting all the damn time. Learn the course. Seriously, don't worry about drifting, and you'll do so much better. After you practice and practice the map, you'll soon find out where you can drift and how long, etc. The major part is getting used to the track and working your way up to your limitations without falling off. Hell, I couldn't handle RR on 150cc, but I still got 1st without any fancy drifting (probably because I never fell off). Now I totally rape RR with the whole drifting experience.

Edit- I find that it's really hard to get your momentum back, especially in the curvy parts of the maps, after you fall off.

^^&^^^You might want to try the nunchuk and wand. I personally prefer the GCN controller but if you don't have one of those around try the nunchuk and wand.

I played some 9000+ dudes the other night and they were all using the wheel with 3 stars. They kept choosing Rainbow Road and doing some shortcut that let them win in 30 seconds and then the server would crash....

after taking tschudi's advice, I moved back up to 7800+.... Every once in awhile you find a group of overrated 6900-7200 or a group of 5000's who you can just dominate for awhile before they leave....


^^ agreed. it sucks that if you try to exit the game or turn off the power once you are already in with those 9000+ cheaters, you lose mega points. Better to try and finish higher than last place before gtfo

Okay WTF, I'm having a REALLY hard time getting 3 stars in 50cc. I've tried 3-4 times on the first cup and only get 2 stars. Best I can tell the only error I'm making is maybe getting hit by a red shell after having my items stripped away from a lightning before making it to another item box. This is bullshit. I'm driving flawlessly.

Am I missing something? Anybody have any suggestions, tips, or advice?
