Miles;

extras include;

and roll bar, and lightweight flywheel and a few other track goodies. Full extended warranty for 50k miles and until 2012. What more is there to know? I... want it. This is insane, I hope I don't buy it, bad, bad idea.

His distressed asking price was $57k, he's down a not insignificant amount more at the moment. I have 7 days to make up my mind, given that somebody else doesn't buy it first... I'd kick myself if I wrecked this thing on track.

So it's funny, some of my friends are pushing me to do it, others are pushing me against it, nobody's neutral.

It would be fun, oh, so fun. If somebody bought my car, this would've been the one I snatched. Hard not to go back and forth...

And lets not forget that I like 911s like this one too;

Even though the GT3 would tear that car a new one, I still like the early 911s also. What happened to me, I had very little interest in these things 2 years ago, now they're all I want...

please point me in the direction of friends pushing against the gt3.

i've never met them i'm guessing, and i'm sure i would be highly out of place; even offensive, but they need to be spoken to...

if you can make more money selling the gt3 than you can with the current 911, then why not? maybe you can get over it and go back to your 23473298473874th 944 or 2347862784673246873647th e36 m3

I thought the same thing when I hit puberty about women.

In relation to the topic at hand, however, I say as long as your can financially handle it, go for it! I mean, you're scared of wrecking the GT3 as opposed to your current 996? That's part of the risk you undertake any time you go to the track. I can understand that a wreck in a GT3 will more than likely be a higher financial burden than a 996, however, you've been doing this for a while now. You're a confident driver. You know what you are doing. Get it. Have fun. You only live once so do it.

Then let me ride in it.

I have heard about track insurance from some THSCC people. I can't remember the company but you should investigate.

Eh, in the last 8 years of full insurance, I have one accident claim -which in retrospect, I should not have claimed. The GT3 on the other hand, I could not afford a total loss on, but think of all the insurance money I've "spent" over the years, doesn't seem like a worthy trade off.

Seems like a similar deal with track insurance. I mean my current car's worth maybe $23k, insurance will be about $150-200 per event. I've easily done 50+ events so far, w/out a single incident (well, lost a splitter on an M3 once), that would've come to $7500-10k in payments. If I wreck the car and do $10k of damage, after their $2k deductible, I would've ended up with... $8000. Well, I guess w/a GT3 it would've been a better trade off, but still. I think I ought to go the opposite direction, and get a cheaper car, actually.

I seem to recall that was the range, but it changed on what you declared your car's value to be. Maybe it was cheaper and I'm mis-remembering. I've never had something worth much more than $10k on track, and thought it wasn't worth getting insurance for something like that. Hopefully it'll get more common -->cheaper. I try to self insure whenever possible, and my track record so far says it may be feasible...

Lucky you, mine doesn't cover track schenanigans.

I love the car, I really do. My favorite aspect is it's weight transfer/rotation. It's performance capabilities are considerable, sure, but it's the steering feedback, it's transitional behaviour, and the way it responds to throttle input that defines it. Stiff brake pedal that makes it possible to get to and remain at treshold braking from 160 down to ~25mph... That and it still had a good ride, great A/C and stereo, keyless entry, cruise.

Why am I selling this car again? Oh right, the GT3. Maybe I'm just confused. Hard to justify an extra $30k in light of the performance difference, but obviously there's more to the car than the #s, or nobody would own a 911 in the first place...

It was fun on track, funny how I take the brakes for granted and just want more power now. The BMW days seem like distant history...

Well the car's not sold yet, but it looks likely. I am thinking GT3 or Turbo, but we shall see if I have the balls to pull the trigger on either...

O.o

the other night at brasa when i asked you why not a turbo you gave a myriad of reasons. number one being too many wheels driving the car (although barely at ~5% to the front).

then there was the whole "the 996 gt3 is the last pure drivers car with no computer assistance whatsoever blah blah blah."

that being said...

For turbo vs. Gt3, I'd rather own own a Gt3, but the turbo is $15k cheaper makes more power, and could easily make a lot more. The fwd crap can easily be pulled off, electronics can be disabled. I'm not full of it though, like I said the Gt3 is really what I'd like. Either way, it's a huge financial decision, not sure I'm ready. $15K would let me build the crazy e30 turbo I've wanted, or a supercharged e36 m3...

E36, Tyler, e36... or e30. Neither is a blingtastic overweight highschooler's wet dream of an overweight POS.

I kid, e46s are cool. I just don't like them for myself anymore. I'd still possibly buy one you know if the deal was good enough...

Quinn will be satisfied with the selection of b00st

On another note, was just breezing through some of the maintenance on a 996 turbo, and wow the whole engine mounted on the rear makes routine maintenance a huge pain. Apparently changing spark plugs could easily become a 4 hour job let alone anything else

To be fair, I'm making a lot of the money from my labor, and not just the transactions. This car needed a good deal of work when I bought it.

Anyway, should be picked up Friday or Monday, pending my replacement of one more item. I wouldn't mind forced induction, I'm just uncomfortable stepping up my $$$ output on a car so significantly with each step. Turbo seems doable, GT3 is still in the cards, but I'm also open to something else retarded (like a ridiculous turbo e30 or a supercharged M3, or a Radical, or an Exige, so forth). I haven't made up my mind. In the mean time, I don't even know what I'll be driving. :o

I also thought about opening a used high performance car lot... With S2ks, EVOs, 350Zs, GT3s and that type of car for sale, no financing offered, I wonder if there's a market for such a thing. Cars would be priced fairly, but probably not significantly different to the market.
