Quote :
"Nick Lamaison, a first-team junior college All-American from Mt. San Antonio Community College, has signed with Tennessee, according to the junior college’s Web site.

Last season as a freshman, Lamaison, 6-foot-1, 200 pounds, led the Mounties to a conference and Southern California championship.

“We will truly miss Nick, however we are excited for him and his opportunity to play and challenge for the starting job at Tennessee”, Tom Craft, the Mounties’ offensive coordinator, is quoted as saying on the site. “Had he stayed for another season with us, he would have challenged many of the all-time community college records.”

Lamaison finishes his Mounties career with 3,479 yards of passing, 36 touchdowns and a passing efficiency of 166.5.

Tennessee has been hunting a top-flight high school quarterback, with only one scholarship quarterback, Nick Stephens, on the roster after this season. Signing the junior college standout should help ease the situation as UT continues to pursue a high school playcaller.

Lamaison played high school football at South Hills High School in Covina, Calif.

The college is located in Walnut, Calif., 25 miles east of Los Angeles."

A friend got tickets to the Memphis-UT game, so I'll be there in the visitor's section, supporting the Tigers.

Quarterback Jesse Scroggins has committed to Southern California, according to a source close to his recruitment.

Scroggins' announcement will be aired on ESPN this afternoon. It was taped on Wednesday.

Scroggins, from Lakewood (Calif.) High School, was also considering Tennessee and Florida.

Distance from home was said to be the primary factor according to the source.

Have fun on the bench Jesse.

1. It looks like UT is getting in with Tyler Bray, a San Diego State commitment. It sounds like something to laugh at, but apparently A LOT of people are taking notice of the QB. Enough to where he was ranked ahead of Scroggins at the Elite 11 and some people think he could become a Top 100 player at some point pretty soon.

2. Kiffin's SEC Media Days presser is coming up shortly. Maybe they'll be some more headlines shortly?

Spurrier admitted that his SID filled out the ballot for him and picked Snead over Tebow. So for all of YOU PEOPLE out there that were saying that Kiffin did it for spite even after he daid he voted for Tebow: Go Fuck Yourselves.

got a commitment from a 4-star WR today... #7 WR in the country

Quote :
"Tennessee has landed a verbal commitment from highly regarded receiver Markeith Ambles of McDonough, Ga.

Ambles, a 6-foot-2, 182-pound senior-to-be at Henry County High School, was also recruited by Florida State, Alabama, Auburn and others.

Ambles caught 53 passes for 933 yards and 13 TDs as a junior. He will sign in February with the class of 2010."

Rumors of some big name QB transfer to be announced soon, not sure if this is bullshit or not...

^If you are referring to the rumor started by the guys on Sports Talk in Chattanooga then don't worry about it. Those guys are completely full of shit. I don't think I have ever heard of them breaking a story that actually played out. Those dumbasses are probably talking about the kid that just transferred to UTC.

We needed Ambles bad. That is a great get for UT.

Woohoo!! Just picked up another commitment from a WR. Milton out of Illinois. 6' 6" 4-star wide out commited today. Kyle Prater, the #1 WR in the country, is also visiting this weekend as well.

Kiffin is really picking up the recruiting recently.

GoVOLS!

if berry won the heisman would it, in your mind Jaybee1200, make up for peyton manning?

No.

Unless he won it in a bullshit manner like Woodson did... if Tebow was by far the best offensive player against the best competition and Berry had 2 huge games but still won the Heisman, then I would shut up about Peyton.

well, that question kindof assumed that tebow would be the better player this year. i feel that this is a safe assumption.

I would say they are both equally good at their position and each have 1 or 2 players close to them but they are above them... but Tebow is at a position that has a bigger impact on the game and is on a much better team that will be higher ranked and have a much better chance to win it all.

you also have to consider that he just won't get thrown at, and therefore won't have great numbers.

If Berry was smart, he would end Tebow's campaign and enhance his own by shattering a femur (or two) on September 19th

Some good recent recruiting visits:

Quote :
"Darius Kilgo has never seen anything like the University of Tennessee.

The 6-foot-4, 290-pound defensive tackle from Weddington High School in Matthews, N.C., took an unofficial visit to UT on Sunday.

Kilgo, who’s also visited South Carolina, Duke and Clemson, said UT was the most impressive trip he’s taken.

“I would say that Tennessee blows them out of the water,” he said. “They have the top facilities. I felt comfortable in that atmosphere.”

Kilgo said his trip to UT helped move the Vols to the top of his list.

He said he’s also considering offers from South Carolina, Illinois, Michigan State, Minnesota, Maryland and East Carolina.

He said Clemson has yet to offer a scholarship.

Kilgo, who visited UT with his parents, spent time with defensive line coach Ed Orgeron.

Kilgo said he likes Orgeron’s energetic style of coaching.

“He’s a great coach,” Kilgo said. “He’s just high intensity and hyper all the time.

“That’s the kind of a coach I like. He has a motor and just pushes his athletes.”

That’s the kind of coach Kilgo lacked last year at Weddington.

Kilgo said his playing weight as a junior was 315 pounds, which limited his endurance and stamina.

Kilgo said Weddington hired a new coaching staff that helped him lose weight during the offseason.

“As soon as our new coach came in we started working hard with conditioning and lifting,” Kilgo said. “(The extra weight) just fell off after that.

“It feels a whole lot better. I can move around faster and go a lot longer without getting tired.”

Kilgo said he’s unsure how long it will take him to choose a college.

He said he considered committing to UT during his trip before he and his parents decided not to rush into a decision.

He said UT is the only school he knows he’ll officially visit this fall.

He is undecided on his other trips but will likely visit Maryland."

Quote :
"Tennessee is still in the running for offensive lineman T.J. Leifheit from Hoggard High School in Wilmington, N.C.

The 6-foot-7, 300-pound Leifheit told the News Sentinel on Monday that he’s narrowed his list to five schools: UT, LSU, North Carolina, Florida State and Southern Cal.

“I just felt the best relationship with those five schools and their coaches,” he said. “I had outstanding visits to all of them.”

Leifheit eliminated Florida and North Carolina State from his list during the weekend.

He is being recruited by UT assistant coaches David Reaves and James Cregg.

Leifheit, who attended UT’s Orange and White game on April 18, said last week that he was impressed with the coaching staff’s work ethic.

“All the coaches are full of energy and they’re always running around,” Leifheit said. “I think they’re going to win a lot of games there.”

Leifheit said he hopes to make his college decision by October. He plans to graduate early and enroll in college in January.

He said he hasn’t scheduled any official visits for this fall."

That's a hell of a weekend. I think I'm doing a lot of the same -- driving to Raleigh for the NCSU game, back to Knoxville on Saturday for the UT game and then staying in Knoxville for Boomsday that Sunday night. Should be a fun weekend.

I've got Thursday - Tuesday off of work, gonna get blasted for the NCSU/USC game, then (if I can find a ticket) I'll hop in the car with Brett and Mark on Friday and catch the UT/WKU game early Saturday. We'll drive back early on Sunday and have our fantasy football draft

then I'll have all day Monday to recover
