So along the lines of the whole desmond/alternate timelines/constant theory - Jack is the only person that we know of (besides Libby but she's not a main character) that met Desmond before he got on the plane. i'm also guessing all the weird pirate people must be descendants of the passengers on the black rock, or maybe some of them were passengers and don't age like richard. and i wonder why cindy was wearing pirate clothes or whatever. i coulda sworn i saw her at the end of season 5 with the people at richard's camp dressed differently. there must also be some explanation as to why some of the others live in tents with richard out in the jungle (or at the barracks before they were deserted) while the rest live at the temple.

Not themselves, but each other. For ex. Kate can be Jack's constant, Hurley could be Jin's constant, and so on. Someone in the know, like Desmond maybe, could try to get them all together. Then they'll each have 4-5 constants in each place they're going back and forth from - which is probably better/works faster than just 1 constant.

And I'm not really sure about the likes of Locke, or others who have died. Maybe they're just dead and that's all there is to it. Although, they made it very clear that smokey has all of Locke's memories. And who knows... i mean, sayid seems to have come back from the dead (or maybe it's not sayid?). They can really do just about anything they want at this point.

i don't think the others who died would matter. i think it's all going to come down to the people jacob touched (jack, locke, kate, sawyer, hurley, sayid, jin, sun) and joining their timelines. i think they'll have to allow multiple constants if that's what happens later in the show because someone in timeline B would get screwed over if everyone paired up for constants and they got stuck with locke since he's dead in timeline A. or maybe MiB would work because he has locke's memories like you said. fuck this show.

so apparently ash keeps the smoke monster away from you.

at the beginning when they were carrying locke's body to jacob's hut the bigger guy told everyone to look at the ash. it had been broken.

when the same guy confronted "locke" beneath the statue he spread what i'm assuming is ash around him on the floor. the smoke monster couldn't get to him until was knocked out of the circle by the falling boulders.

at the end when the people at the temple thought the smoke monster was coming because jacob was dead they surrounded the fort in what looked like the same substance.

i think she meant when she said, "lets get coffee....we can go dutch" is a sign to Sawyer that they will meet again in another timeline.....presumably in the timeline where the plane lands safely in LAX. because if the island is underwater, then i'm assuming Juliette never went to the island to do her research and is still living in the States. it was her way of saying, "this isn't the end....i will see you again."

man, last night was rough. My wife (who hasnt watched the show since season 1 or 2) sat in the bedroom and watched the 2nd episode with me last night. She didnt know what the hell was going on, and I guess I kinda watched the show from her perspective a little bit and realized just how crazy this shit has gotten.

I love the show, and I think last night laid the groundwork for what is to come this season. I have a feeling that throughout the season we're going to see/hear things that will make us all go back and re-watch the first episode again and have an "ohhh" moment

with that said, I thought the two episodes last night were pretty weak, and once again created wayyy more questions than answers. oh well

A few things.

its definitely an alternate timeline and that is why hurley considers himself the luckiest guy in the world. this line was intended to be the big clue. IIRC hurley was in Australia to film commercials for his mr. cluck franchise or whatever.

desmond was definitely there. jack recognized him from the stairs and that is that. he was never stuck on the island and as such could be on the plane.

the destruction of the fertility statue did not stop the people from having babies on the island. i used to think this too, but eloise is doing just fine and the statue is destroyed in 1977 as well. Ethan was born post statue destruction. i believe the hydrogen bomb going off has more to do with it.

overall i thought the episode was mediocre. there have definitely been better ones. we did get some good information but the substance just seemed thrown together.

whats worse is we'll have a four week break for the olympics.
