By my count, if we signed Ruutu for let's say $3.5 million, bought out Kaberle, and traded Eaves and Babchuk for somebody, that would leave us with nearly $2.5 million for whatever defenseman we could get in return.

There are a number of free-agents that we could sign as legit #4 defenders. The ones that really catch my eye are....

Seidenberg ( I am not versed on his situation, but seems logical)
Bret Hedican (another Cup run?) (I think we have the talent, but he may be a 5 or 6 guy)
Mathieu Dandenault (Experience along Corvo on that second line could be invaluable)

What's everyone else thinking?

I honestly think that Alberts is the #4 that JR was targeting. I think he is happy with his D corps right now, and barring a Kaberle buyout, we have our 6 defensemen

i wouldnt be opposed to a Kaberle buyout. i wasn't pleased with his turnovers in the playoffs.

the canes have made all the right big moves it seems, and i really like how we are gonna look going into this year. i think we'll have a tight race with the Caps for the division and could see the southeast division take strong 1 & 5 seeds into the playoffs.

Went by conditioning camp today. Damn Paradis has a bomb of a shot, but he seemed to be missing the net more than he was hitting it. Dalpe was looking really sharp.

The great news is that if we buyout Kaberle and trade Eaves, by my count we have $3-4 million left to spend on a top 4 defenseman for this season. Make it happen, JR. If he does, we could be in for one hell of a season.
