This is a pretty interesting site by EA. Not terribly helpful but you might just gleam something from it. http://www.ultimateprestige.com/

Snipers can brute force the non-building-collapsible crates with mortar strikes, too. Takes a while and just one sniper doing it alone likely wouldn't be enough, but with tank/RPG/other support it helps bring the thing down.

But yeah, spotting is huge and saves the lives of people at the front lines if the sniper is paying attention instead of just trying to snipe some random guy who is nowhere near the action (which is what I typically see).

Also, hopefully someone else here has used UAV+Alt Weapon package... that shit is god.

Also, anyone have any advice for playing the engineer class? I've maxed out Recon and Medic and while I haven't gotten that far in Assault yet, it's a fairly easy class to play. But the engineer is just impossibly useless to me (besides the obvious repairing and anti-tank purposes)... you've got a gun that does little damage with relatively poor accuracy, and the clip is only 20 rounds. That's like one kill before you have to reload, about two if you're using magnum ammo package... Do the later guns stop sucking massive dick?

my advice for the engineer class at the start is to just run and gun with that first weapon or one of the all-class weapons until you unlock the repair tool. if you're going for all insignia, then eventually you're gonna have to get a bronze in the beginner SMG, so maybe just grin and bear it. it's not that bad, but just be smart - it's not a head-on engagement class...flank and pick off guys. later weapons get better, but you're always going to want more bullets in your clip!

being pushed by a corsair 750hx. i think its driver related. if you google 5870 + crash, it seems to be a common problem. I posted the problem in tech talk in the new computer build thread if anyone has any suggestions.

Back on topic, I purchased BC2 today. How long should it take me to unlock the stuff that came in the limited edition copy that everyone else got at the release date?

Does anyone know what the Limited Edition had and how it compares to the regular one?

I'd just buy it online if all the LE did was unlock a few weapons/upgrades early.

But if it has exclusive maps I'll go hunt down a copy at Best Buy or something.

Also, I'm on the fence on getting it for PC or 360. My PC is a pretty new/awesome rig, so specs aren't a problem. But I can see the value in XBL friends and 360 headsets.

Well I just looked at my XBL friends list and only 1 of the people I usually played with has the game.

How easy/hard is it to form a decent pickup squad on 360/PC?

I played a ton on PS3 last weekend at my brother's and it was nigh impossible to get any semblance of teamwork going. Especially since there were only 1 or 2 people with a headset.

almost default on PC, if you aren't in a squad you're gonna get chewed up

i got the LE on steam for the typical price of the game (only version available at the time) so I dunno, it would probably take you less than 24 hours of game play time to get on par or beyond someone with the LE, it's not really a leg up at all... (probably 2 hours if you are good)

Okay. As long as I'm not missing out on any maps. I could care less about unlocking things early.

Now the dilemma is whether I buy it from Steam or directly from EA.

I'm a big fan of Steam. I think it'll be $10 cheaper if I get it straight from EA (link above). I do like how Steam will automatically update the game and integrate with my Steam friends, just not sure if that's worth $10.

#1 Reason I only do console gaming now. fuck updating hardware/software/patches every 6 months for the new games that come out. I can't wait til they have a cross platform 360/PC game so I can destroy some PC gamers

so this doesn't become a PC/360 battle....

I got a double headshot kill last night with the M95. I don't know why more people don't use that gun and also from reading this thread the smoke grenade strategy is ridiculously awesome even with the least organized team. /bragging

Yeah, but all it does is list it with your Steam games and opens the shortcut. It doesn't actually integrate it with any Steam features.

At least, that's my understanding from doing it with Peggle Nights.

Got really frustrated last night. I was on the desert map playing conquest, and the pilot of the opposing team was circling our base in the helicopter. It was absolutely killing us. Couldnt get out of the base. The AA gun was worthless.

What rockets will lock onto a target without requiring a tracer?

I've never used Steam before so I don't know what all functionality it has but I added BF to my games list as a 3rd party game and my Steam status shows when I'm in game. I'm not sure if my friends can join on me from Steam or not but I don't really see the point in that since they can join on me once they are in the game.

I think the 2nd RPG (CG?) will lock on.

The third RPG you unlock does. Well sorta, you have to manually guide it, its doesn't really lock on per se.

And how. I think the UMP is one of the most godly weapons in this game. I have almost as many kills with it as I do the M416, which is probably my favorite rifle overall. I don't even use Magnum Ammo or SMG Marksman with it, as I find that simply being able to get off the first shot in a confrontation makes all the difference in the world.

- I find that Body Armor and Explosive Leg Pouch are hands down the best specialties for Engineer, as having double the rockets/mines and slightly higher survivability means you're more effective at taking out armor and have a better chance against more powerful infantry rifles.

- For earning easy points, mines are going to be your very best friend (especially since they don't disappear once you're dead). On maps like Port Valdez, when the Russian tanks can only make it to the base in usually two main ways, you could singlehandedly hold off a whole tank column if one of your teammates has thrown out an ammo box. (I recently destroyed 9 tanks and 1 ATV in a single round.) Put down 2-3 mines at a time - typically in a triangle formation - across a road and then go wait someplace not too far away. Try to put mines in craters or at the backside of a hill so that the tank driver cannot see them. The proximity of the mine blast will also kill nearby infantry, so I'd rather have enough laid to ensure a kill than to hope the tank rolls over the single mine I dropped.

- Engineer is not at all a run-and-gun class, but is instead a class of great anticipation and opportunity. Don't wait for the enemy team to tank rush your base - get some mines out IMMEDIATELY to prevent this from happening at all. In the situation that your base is getting tank rushed, switch to missiles and aim at the direct rear of the tank. Front-on shots are a waste. The M136 is hands down the best tank killer at any range.

- In the event of helicopter trouble, use the tracer dart gun + RPG. You can shoot down a Blackhawk in one hit with this combination. (A fully loaded Blackhawk is worth a LOT of points.) I don't have much experience shooting down anything other than Blackhawks and Hinds since I don't play Conquest as much. On rush maps like Valparaiso defense and Isla Innocentes defense, go ahead and get this loadout ready to go right off the bat so you can try to shoot down the helicopters early. If not, your whole team is probably going to get screwed for it.

- Get in a tank with a squadmate! When you see the tank taking fire, get out and repair. You can make an obscene amount of points in this way. Also, when in a Blackhawk, switch to a backseat and point the drill at the roof of the helicopter. You can repair while in midflight, so if you've got a good pilot who doesn't get locked onto, you're a mobile spawn firebase for your squad.

The M136 is wire-guided, just like the stationary AT rocket launchers. It flies so slowly, though, that it's just about worthless against fast moving helicopters. You're almost best off using the Carl Gustav to take potshots at it since its rocket flies the fastest. The CG and RPG-7 will lock onto tracer darts, but the M136 will not.

Sorry I missed you - my wife and I had dinner out tonight. However, I am out on vacation all next week, so I should be around plenty.

To add one more thing about Engineering, I am fairly certain as of tonight that the Carl Gustav is capable of 1-shotting a Blackhawk. I'd suggest using this especially at the first base while on defense at Isla Innocentes since you'll likely have 2 Blackhawks pestering you right from the start. Dunno where else I'd consider the CG over anything else, though.

Im not sure if I can play this game anymore. Tired of coming up behind a stationary person, 30-40 feet away, aiming down the sites of my M249 and opening up on them, only for them to jump frantically and spin around to kill me instantly

Its a damn SAW, that guy should be torn to bloody lumps with pieces of helmet scattered around. Is this why Assault only uses the 40mm?

ive seen a lot of noob-tubing more recently with this game than when i first started playing. also im seeing a lot more bunny hopping being employed by players too. it seems like after awhile people get tired of legit play and start resorting to bullshit play. a few nights ago i was playing and similar to ^, i was coming up on an enemy and opened up on him with the XM8, he started jumping around like an idiot and by the time i went thru a clip and tried to switch to my pistol, he stopped jumping and killed me with 1 headshot using his pistol; and it's not like i wasnt hitting him at all. it's shit like that that really pisses me off and reminds me of why i stopped playing BF2.

how many c4 does it take to blow up a crate? and do you have to arm the crate first?

and how do the tracer darts work? u just tag a vehicle, switch to your rpg, fire in the general direction of the vehicle, and it locks on or what?

^^ ive experienced the same thing. I feel like if you are going to make a fps focusing on battlefield operations and combat it shouldnt require a clip to kill anyone. If they combined the gun power and player health of MW2 and the gameplay of BC2 it would be a better game. Good thing I can drop a ammo pack to resupply whenever I need.....

I understand yall frustrations about this game and all but it does take some work to kill someone in this game. That's to say if I get killed in this game I am not even remotely close as pissed (majprity of times I am not pissed at all) as I would be in MW2 because its so easy to die by the hands of a little bitch, that's what really pisses me off.

It takes exactly 12 C4 bricks to destroy a crate, and you do not have to arm it. Arming it only brings more unwanted attention your way, so I prefer to C4 it if the option presents itself. If you choose Explosive leg Pouch as your specialization, you can carry 6 bricks. One of my favorite Assault loadouts is with USAS-12, C4, Explosive Leg Pouch, and Shotgun Tube (so it has 12 rounds per magazine instead of 6). If you're super fast and sneaky, you can get to a crate, plant 6 on it, blow it, drop an ammo pack, and hold the line while you reload. On buildings with upstairs crates, this is ferocious since you can sit at the top of the stairs and shoot in the back anybody who comes in while you reload. Also, you get 50 points for objective damage AND you get the full 100 points for objective destruction (if you accomplish this), so I think you can earn a maximum of 250 points per destroyed crate instead of 100.

Tracer darts work by giving the RPG-7 and Carl Gustav something to home in on. They do not work with the M136 since it's wire-guided. If you stick a target with a tracer dart, the target will show up on all of your teammates' radar. If you see a "lit" target, DO NOT shoot at it as soon as you have your launcher out. I have found that the launcher needs a second or two to lock on (especially in the case of helicopters), and there's no tone to indicate that it is. It's best to tag a target, switch to your launcher, aim down the sights at it, count to 2, and then let fly. Once your rocket has locked on, it will accelerate quite a bit. Tracer darts are not perfect, and rockets will usually home in only on "relatively close" shots. You can't point the launcher the opposite direction of the target and expect it to home in. Tracer darts are GREAT for shooting down Blackhawks and Hinds, so use them frequently on Valparaiso and Isla Innocentes. Sticking a tracer dart on an attack helicopter (such as the Apache) is... exceedingly difficult, unfortunately. You're almost better off just blind firing the Carl Gustav.

You're a noob jajaja. When you use a gun from the All Kits group your gadget is C4 to the left of the D-pad, and whatever class you are using the gadget to the right of the D-pad stays the same. So if you used the Assault class with the shotty, you pretty much have infinite C4.

there is an indication of when you can fire. when you pull up your RPG/CG and locate the target brackets you will see the distance appear under said brackets when it has lock. and you can absolutely fire in random directions when you have lock. if a tank is tagged, i almost always fire straight up so that the rocket can get over hills or houses that may be in the way

ha yeah, more and more i'm realizing how much of a noob i am at this game. i'm used to bf2. which explains why i thought only recon had c4, and why i'll get the ace pin in conquest and hardly ever get scores higher than the middle of the pack in rush.

also, i tagged so many tanks with tracer darts last night, and then fired rockets right at them, and the rockets went whizzing by. i don't understand.

you have to lock the missile on before firing, you will see a small set of brackets when it's tagged, then a small box around the brackets will flash a few times then go solid thats when you have lock

yes, quite often, i'm sorta involved with 2-3 different groups, 6th ID or 6id, and 21cw servers
