Porto just scored one of the strangest goals I've ever seen

They got a free kick in the area because the keeper picked up a back pass and then the keeper just stood there while Porto tapped the ball in the net.

What was Wenger thinking starting this clown at GK? I mean Almunia is pretty terrible, but this guy should be playing in MLS... maybe.

^^^^ there have been some pretty good goalies in MLS in recent years - Keller, Guzan, Cannon, Hartman, Perkins... all quality

That's why I said maybe. I have no doubt Fabianski has considerable skill as a GK. But like 70% of playing that position is mentality and he clearly is outclassed in this game. Lack of experience, lack of concentration, lack of positioning have all caught him out in this game. He'd probably do fine playing against Hull or Stoke City or something. But having to play against Porto in the CL knockout stage is clearly above him.

I also don't think the referee has had a good game at all. The ease with which players from both teams go down and all the chippy fouls haven't exactly made his job easy for him to be fair though. It's been mostly consistent for both sides.

oh yeah, but it's been a while since he's been in MLS... I was thinking of recent guys. I guess you could count Friedel too if you wanted to include everybody

i love how soccer play by plays online are much more descriptive than other sports

"52 min: FABIANSKI IS A COMPLETE CLOWN. Porto 2-1 Arsenal. Campbell passes the ball back to his keeper, who inexplicably picks the ball up. That's an indirect free kick. Of course it is! Why on earth didn't he kick? And, adding high farce to farce, Porto take a super-fast free kick, the ball being tapped immediately to Falcao, who strokes the ball into an empty net as the keeper and all his defenders stand around like loons. What a pair of goals Arsenal have conceded tonight."

WHO ARE YA? NO, SERIOUSLY, WHO THE HELL ARE YA, FABIANSKI?

What a disgrace.

Basically, Fabianski scored two goals for Porto. Otherwise, Arsenlol would have won off of Lol Campbell's goal. All I have to say: LOL.

Pretty damn nervous about Arsenal v. Porto this evening. Being behind a goal is bad enough, but no Fabregas spells trouble, and Arshavin probably isn't fit to start. At least Fabianski isn't in goal this time (not that Almunia is that much better).

Hopefully Porto wins. I'm sick of seeing the same teams in the simi-finals every year. A final with no English teams would be cool. That hasn't happened in a few years. Sports get boring when the same teams win every year (Duke winning the ACC basketball tournament).
