upper radiator hose on the subie...
not sure why this one failed, but damned glad I walked outside to try and return that steering rack core to notice the antifreeze all over the garage floor
^search out ones from factory cars that can be swapped in without much trouble, then get one from advance auto or auto zone, so it will have a warranty
if you drop serious coin on an aluminum unit, you probably won't get a warranty

Look and see if godspeed has any good radiators, that is where I am getting my intercooler setup from. I checked around and zero fitment issues etc for the swap. 3/22/2010 8:15:50 PM |

S2000 aligned again...it didn't feel like it was handling quite right, and pulled just slightly to the left. sure enough, both right wheels were off. guess i hit a bad pothole or something on the right side.

^you must have run over some nasty shit. I had my S2K aligned last summer after driving all over NY/NJ for a week including several trips through Manhattan. Those roads are hell and nothing was out of spec.
Looks like I'm replacing the oil pan for the Integra this weekend

280,5xx. I'm hoping I won't have a hard time unbolting the original oil pan from the bottom of the block (i.e. stuck bolts). It is 18 years old When I do it, is there anything I should look for up in the engine for general signs of good health? (other than the obvious).

It should come off with no problem. Those things are on with like 10 ftlbs. Remember that when you put it back on .
If its leaking from the drain plug, i would rtv the sucker the next time you change the oil and call it a day. 3/24/2010 10:58:02 AM |

Well, the front shocks are worn, figured I could just upgrade them to get a smoother ride. And upgrade the rear leaf springs also.
Was also looking at the 2" front lift kit so the front is level with the back. 3/29/2010 8:55:48 PM |

The new oil pan parts aren't arriving till later today, but on Saturday I jacked up the integra in the garage with the intention of removing the oil pan. 2 hours later and I still hadn't achieved that goal. Upon inspection I noticed that 3-4 of the oil pan bolts were missing and 2 were easy to rotate with just my finger tips The remaining bolts/nuts holding the oil pan in place are easy enough to remove, but on the passenger side there's a cover on the edge of the oil pan where it meets up against the transmission. The cover blocks my access to a few small bolts so I had to remove it. OF COURSE one of those little buggers is stuck and in a very confined space. If PB blaster doesn't do the trick I might have to drop the exhaust header to get more room to work with.
Oh, and I also found a 7-8" long support bracket of some kind (coming off the tranny) that is snapped in half. Not sure if the RallyX caused that, or perhaps something else 3/30/2010 12:55:03 PM |

*this is an honest question not trying to start a fight*
Why do vw people swap parts from other factory cars so much?
I mean yall seem to be all about some brakes from a weird euro model or turbo from the great albino beetle. i mean its not a bad thing cause you know it was engineered well... but the factory also takes into account low production costs.
Its like no one trusts the aftermarket well i guess your aftermarket is also $texas compared to some. 3/30/2010 11:12:00 PM |

european models have better parts that the US doesn't get. The Audi S3 intercooler can fit a VW MK5 GTI with no modification, and is much cheaper than an aftermarket front mount while being completely hidden, and equally as effective. 3/30/2010 11:38:53 PM |
dannydigtl All American 18302 Posts user info edit post |
S3 intercooler is $270 shipped
APR intercooler is $1000.
The APR is bigger, but for modest power, the S3 is a nice step up. 30% more cooling area (deeper, more rows), flows better, and has aluminum endtanks unlike the cheapo plastic endtanks on the stock IC. Its a direct fit, too.
This is a 100% daily driver car for me. An intercooler for a nice/safe foundation on the cheap, some software, and maybe an intake is all it's seeing. 3/31/2010 12:09:00 AM |
