can someone explain to me why we went for it on 4th and 12? We basically just said here take the ball back and we'll just give you a short field to work with. i mean if you don't mind giving up the field position then at least try the field goal to put points on the board and ice it. otherwise pooch it 20 yards and make them take it the length of the field. it worked out for us but i don't understand that thinking at all, we basically made it as easy as we possibly could to set them up to score

i still don't see what fowler should be doing differently. we can't build a program with a revolving door at the head coach's office. tom o'brien is an evident improvement from amato. he has head coach experience, and was a top contender for the acc when at bc.

the basketball coaching "debacle" as so many people call it, is more of a reflection of our standing and status as perceived by the rest of the country rather than our athletic director. fowler went after top prospects, and got shot down. how else should he have played that? if he had quietly looked for a coach, and then landed with sidney lowe, people would be mad at him for not going after barnes and calipari hard enough.

i'm not a fowler apologetic, by any means, but i don't understand why everyone dogs on the guy, other than it being the popular thing to do.

unless, of course, we measure our athletic success by the record of our volleyball team.

Well, he could start by not approving of a volleyball coach a few years back who failed to win an ACC game for like, what, three straight years? he could start by demanding that a defensive coordinator not call THE SAME FUCKING PLAY EVERY DOWN. He could start by demanding that the football coaches teach the team how to tackle, when we have failed to do so since last year. That would be a start.

In short, he could demand some kind of accountability from his coaches.

How many times do you need to hear the opponent's QB say in the post-game interview "We knew they called the same play every down, so we were ready" before you start to say "hmmm, somethin aint right..."

look. i'm just as angry with mike archer as anyone. i'm just not convinced that this all lands on the feet of lee fowler. i don't think the athletic director should be meddling in the affairs of defensive schemes.

and if you're going to then say, "well, tom o'briend should fire archer," then at least give the head coach the patience to evaluate the season and make the changes necessary at the end of the season. i'm sure he will. and if he doesn't, he'll have to answer to fowler at the end of next season if things don't start showing signs of improvement.

this, to me, seems rational and productive. but whatever, i'm really not trying to get sucked into an argument with people who are mad for the sake of being mad.
